Note: The legs of the ladder can be trimmed for length with a hacksaw or tube cutter. When you are installing mounting brackets and support pegs, make certain that all screws are fastened to the RV's blocking or subframe on roof. If you are uncertain if your RV has backing installed, you should contact your RV manufacture to confirm. It is unsafe to use a ladder that is not connected to the RVs backing or sub frame
Stromberg Carlson's RV ladder is truly universal. Its unique design allows you slanted rear walls. Its length can be customized, and all necessary parts are included for installation.
The ladder attaches to your motor home's roof with pivoting mounting brackets, allowing you to position the angle of the ladder so that it remains parallel to the back wall of the RV. This works great for RVs with roofs that are curved toward the back. If the roof is curved toward the sides of the RV, you can simply trim the inside leg of the vertical portion of the ladder that attaches to the roof. In doing so, you will eliminate the difference in the slope between the inside and outside arms of the ladder.
For an RV with a slanted or contoured rear wall, install the included hinges between the lower and upper sections of the ladder at the point where the wall is curved or angled. If your RV has a straight rear wall, just slide the lower ladder into the upper ladder, bolt the sections together with the provided hardware, and then place the lower stand-off close to the hinge to prevent flexing.
Set the length of the ladder by trimming the lower portion where it connects to the upper portion. Make sure that the bottom step of the ladder sits between 6 and 12 inches from the top of the bumper.
The included ladder support pegs, or stand-offs, attach between the first and second steps from the top and at about 8 to 10 inches below where the two sections of ladder connect. These supports provide additional strength and keep the ladder 5 inches away from the RV's rear wall.

Stromberg Carlson's universal RV ladder can be attached to an RV with either a contoured or straight rear wall. The rustproof aluminum ladder fixes securely to the RV for a safe, strong hold when you're climbing up and down it.I have cut the extended tubes on each 1/2 of ladder, so that the rungs are all 12" apart. This looks best. Then because the ladder is 1" too long I added a 1" x 2" x 24" rectangle of aluminum. This allowed me to fasten the alum. to my roof truss members. The next aspect of installing the 4qty. 5" long spacer off the walls will take some time as I need to install lumber into the walls where these 4 need to go. I am building this cargo trailer into a camper and my walls inside can be accessable yet. I'm a 35 year retired shop teacher and this installation cannot be installed easily at all by a regular Joe with few skills. I'm 230 #'s and I need it ALL done correctly, every screw has to go into something solid not just the walls of a camper/trailer. The metal on mine is .040 and this is thicker than the average trailer wall. It is still to thin for screws to fasten the ladder. The installation directions lack important facts and photos. Saying if you don't know where the solid members on the trailer are call your manufacturer. This is never going to work considering you might find one stud to fasten one set of the outreach supports but he other set is 12" away... these will not go into any member, just the camper wall. The ladder itself is 5/5. The directions are 3/5. What they expect you to do and find in your walls for supportting this ladder is a 1/5.
Ladder received as advertised: very good quality product, all parts as required, and adequate instructions. Installation without major problems by one not particularly mechanically inclined. I have not put it to the climb test yet; however it has a "rock solid" feel and looks really nice on our RV.
I have not installed the ladder yet. Hope to get it installed next week. I did get chance to play with it some and it seems to match the ladder that I am replacing. The brackets are just a little different but pretty close. I am waiting on some Dicor Roof Compound to come in before I get started. Over all I think it will be a perfect match.
This is a good, inexpensive ladder. I am 170 lb and is always feels secure. I put this on the rear of ny 1993 Safari Trek 2400, mainly to access my solar panels. I used some high quality GE silicone adhesive sealant under the bases for the best seal possible (also what I used for adhesion and sealing under my solar panel mounts. It is very light, and I don't know how it would be if you're around 200 lb or so. Honestly, I would be the most concerned about the motorhome shell. If you have food wood blocking behind it, or access to add them, it would most likely be fine.
Great ladder, perfect fit, rock solid. I have a toy hauler, so a rear mount was out.
All worked out good. I wish you had bracket braces specs in there. Would work out good on stud lay out. Up or down, or horizontal lay out for brace screws. I had to add another 2x2 for horizontal. All in all made it fit fine. Looks and works great. I will add I had my camper re-framed about 2 feet in and rebuilt it, so don’t guess if you find a stud or a good solid place to bolt to.... I framed my studs in the back to hold this ladder. Thanks 2008 Keystone Sprinter
Needed a new ladder because I backed into a tree :( This one filled the bill. Package arrived in horrible shape, but everything was there and undamaged. Installation was a challenge for me, but got it done.
Extremely fast service. I have a Dutchman Voltage V-3905 Toy Hauler. etrailer recommended that I get the LA-401 ladder and the LA-148 extension, as the original 110" ladder is not available through etrailer, and cost over $300 from Dutchman through the camping store. The two items came to just over $100 so I got the free shipping. I placed my order yesterday at about 2pm. They were delivered to my house by UPS at 10:14 this morning, wow! They look very good, I don't plan to install them until this spring when it warms up a little (presently we have 15" of snow on the ground). I will add an update and a photo afterwards.
We had a problem with the new buildout of our teenage boy's bedroom. I started looking at ladders and then the RV ladder idea happened. I had no doubts about this and knew it was going to be a big hit. I made a believer out of everyone and now it's the talk of the town. Thanks guys!
The ladder came quickly and was exactly as described. Great!. I had backed too close to the garage, (the devil made me do it) and crushed the ladder on my Jayco. Only was damaged in the upper end, top 3 feet. Cheapest way to repair the ladder was to cut off the upper part and use that portion of the new ladder to replace the crushed part. Worked well. I will say the replacement isn't as strongly built as the original ladder but certainly will do the job, especially considering the reasonable cost. Very pleased indeed.
Nice product, fast shipping, very happy!
I have not yet installed the ladder, but upon inspection it looks quite durable and you can't beat the price. I will be shopping etrailer.com for future needs.
Awesome company to deal with
I used this to add a ladder to my Scamp trailer, which has no straight sides and all rounded corners. This ladder is flexible enough to accommodate this installation. I like it. It feels sturdy and looks good.
I knew when I ordered that the top may not fit correctly due to the angle of the roof. I was able to cut top section of old ladder off at the first step and attach to new sections. No problems and looks great. I used all items that came with new steps stand offs ect. My old ladder was bent towards the bottom from jack knifing at cargo trailer into it. For the money you cant go wrong.
I have purchased many items from etrailer. your service is tremendous and so are the products you sell. The rv rear ladder was as described. I use it to access the roof to sweep of the top of the slide out. I weigh 225 and the ladder is solid and was fairly easy to install.
I installed my ladder a year ago and it has been great. Im 230 lbs and it had has no problem with climbing it, solid and sturdy.
Great ladder, great price, and easily installed. Fit adaptability (cut to fit) was especially beneficial.
this ladder was a replacement for the damaged ladder that was on the camper. it took some figuring because the ladder was not mounted on a straight flat surface. worker quite well. i am pleased with the product.
Great option for a new or replacement ladder. I replaced my damaged ladder with this one and it worked great. The ladder is easy to install and very sturdy. Thanks
