This harness plugs right into your vehicle’s existing light connectors—no wire cutting or splicing needed. Once connected, it provides a 4-pole flat trailer connector ready for running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. The plug-and-play design keeps the install clean and hidden behind the panels for a factory-style look.

The built-in powered converter isolates and safeguards your vehicle’s sensitive wiring from any shorts or overloads that might happen on the trailer side. It combines the brake and turn circuits to match standard trailer wiring and uses its own fused power line direct to the battery for reliable operation. The inline fuse is rated at 10 amps max to protect the system.
With a maximum capacity of 3 amps per stop/turn light circuit and 6 amps total for taillights, this harness supports most small and mid-size trailers with standard incandescent or LED lighting. It’s built to handle consistent use without overloading or tripping the converter.
The 4-flat connector gives you everything needed for basic trailer lighting—running, turn, and brake lights—all in one simple plug. It’s the same connector used on most utility trailers, making it easy to hook up and go when you’re ready to tow.
This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

It does take some work to route the wire. You can take a look at a 2012 Camry installation video to see if we used the same route as you took:

A proper crimp tool is definitely need to complete the install. Without a good crimp, the power line will be prone to losing connection and the trailer lights will cease to function. We have a small electrical basics kit that includes a crimp tool, see part HM51010.

The primary reason why the wiring harness is set up to pull the power for the trailer taillights directly from the vehicles battery is to protect the vehicle from short circuits that might occur in the wiring on the trailer. Connecting the harness according to the instructions serves to keep the trailer wiring fully isolated from the delicate and expensive to repair vehicle wiring. The fuse in the power wire itself is designed to protect the taillight converter from a short in the power wire, not to protect the vehicle from shorts.
