Installation of Power Wire for Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness on 2014 Mazda 3
Updated 03/27/2018 | Published 03/25/2018 >
Question:
Do I have to wire the power wire of the Curt 55567 harness directly to the battery? I have a 2014 Mazda 3. On the fuse panel in the passenger compartment is a spot with a wire for a sunroof which my car doesnt have thats protected by a 20 amp fuse. I would think I can use an add a fuse to connect to that without any modifications to the car. The only real difference I see is that the harness wouldnt get power if the car is off. There are two reasons I dont want to run it to the battery. 1 I dont want to run the wire under the car where it could get snagged by something like snow or ice chunks. 2 I dont want to put it through the firewall from the cabin to the engine compartment. Thank you

Expert Reply:
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55567 uses an in line fuse that is 10 amp max. It is recommended to install power wire directly to battery, so any installation even though it may work as you referenced would void the manufacturer's warranty. I've attached the installation details to assist.
