Product was better than I expected and the order and delivery process was outstanding. I would recommend you folks to anyone.

Put it on my 2003 Jeep Wrangler. Looks great. I'll be using it to carry stuff to the beach.

by:

Just received my cargo carrier yesterday. Unpacked it and it looks good. Received it when you said I would, held it up to my jeep and I think it is just what I wanted. I plan on using it to carry items to the Sierra Nevada Mountains which is near by and go 4-wheeling and camping. I have 2 grandaughters living with us and needed the space to carry cargo since my Wrangler dont have alot of room inside. Thanks for everything

Great product - just what I needed. This will complement my Jeep and it looks great. Sturdy and easy to assemble.

The Rola expandable cargo bag fits perfectly and is a great compliment to the folding cargo carrier. Our trips to the beach will now leave the sand outside!

From start to finish the transation was excellent. This was my third purchase from etailer. Everyone of these purchases has been an excellent experiance. This cargo carrier was exactly as I expected it to be and as the sales rep represented. The sales rep was very knowledgable of the product. I highly recommend etrailer.com for any of your needs of this type.

Works with my spare tireI love this cargo carrier. The 13 inches is just enough clearance for the spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler. I was a bit worried about the back door clearing the rack, but found that if I remove the pin completely and let the carrier drop below its normal level, that I can also open the back door. In the regular flat position, the tire doesn't clear the lip of the rack. Works great if you don't mind undoing the pin to open the back door. I move mine around all the time. I recommend getting locking bolts to hold the license plate on so they don't rattle off.

Okay. Here’s the scoop on the Draw-Tite 20x48 Folding Cargo Carrier For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver.

I bought it since it looked like the best choice to carry camping cargo on my 2010 RAV4. I believe I was right and that it was and is the best choice. In the “up” position it clears the rear door-mounted spare tire. No extension is needed to get it to clear the rear spare tire.

I thought that the 48” width was perfect and that a 60” wide carrier was a too wide for my RAV4. Also, the #59102 (waterproof) Rola Expandable Cargo Bag, 9.5 to 11.5 cubic feet fits PERFECTLY in this cargo carrier I had no need for a larger carrier. I just use it for camping and carrying extra gear so the back of the RAV4 is not loaded with stuff. When I’m at my destination I empty the Rola bag contents, put it inside the back of the RAV4 and put the carrier in the “up” position until I’m ready to break camp, re-load the Rola bag and move on.

I use a Draw-Tite Receiver that I mounted on my RAV4. So to hold the 2” shank firmly in the Draw-Tire receiver and keep it from rattling I got a #63201 Draw-Tite J-Pin Stabilization Pin and Barrel Lockset from etrailer. It you do not have a Draw-Tite Receiver, then this stabilization pin may or may not fit. If it doesn’t fit then—at least—you can get a #SR25219 Stainless Steel Locking, Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin for 2" Trailer Hitches from etrailer. It looks like it will accomplish the same thing if the Draw-Tite J-Pin Stabilization Pin will not fit your receiver. The Draw-Tite J-Pin Stabilization Pin is a little easier if you take the Draw-Tite 20x48 Folding Cargo Carrier on and off a lot, but it is no big deal. Anyway, the Draw-Tite 20x48 Folding Cargo Carrier folds up when you’re not using it and down when you’re using it so the point is that it is the kind of carrier that someone would get when you don’t want to be putting the carrier on and taking it off your vehicle a lot.

I suggest using Draw-Tite J-Pin Stabilization Pin or the Stainless Steel Locking, Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin, or something similar to hold the shank firmly.

But the Draw-Tite 20x48 Folding Cargo Carrier would still rattle ALL THE TIME as I drove down the road. It didn’t matter if it was in the “up” or “down” position. The reason is that the outer two holes that the included ½” safety pin goes through (this is the pin that you remove and reinsert every time you want to lower or raise the cargo carrier platform) are bigger than ½”. This is the cause of the rattle.

What was the cure? I bought a 3-1/2” x ½” hex-head bolt (not a carriage bolt!) at Home Depot. (3” is too short.) I also got a ½” nut, two ½” flat washers and one ½” split lockwasher. This replaced the included safety pin. That way I could snug down the nut on the ½” bolt and every bit of the rattle went away. This “cure” cost about $1.60.

I also recommend torquing the pivot bolt as much as you can. You’d have to be a competitor in the 'Worlds Strongest Man' competition to be able to over-torque it.

Granted, I now have to carry a pair of wrenches to tighten or loosen the nut and bolt whenever I want to raise or lower the cargo carrier platform. But on long rides it keeps me from going crazy from rattle noise. No rattle at all.

by:

The cargo carrier attached easily. My only issue is that when tightened to the point there is no rattle to raise or lower the carrier floor the 3/4 bolt has to be loosened to align the hitch pin.

Also the instruction enclosed was confusing and appeared incorrect. Your video showed the correct way to put it together. This is what I used.

by:

This is a sturdy carrier. Welds all seem good. Paint is just fine. Steel tubing is very strong. The weight is heavy but reasonable for one person to install and remove. I plan to remove it when not in use on our trip to avoid having to fold it up and lose ability to access the hatch on our van. It has a bit of play in both the receiver and on the folding hinge. I’m going to use construction shims taped in place to reduce the wiggle but even without those, it’s not bad. Even with a jumbo cooler, we can still see the plate. This will do the trick for vacation and camping gear without having to haul a massive 60” carrier. Love the size and build.

Used it on a trip through Yellowstone. Worked just great. Bought cheap ratcheting straps to hold stuff down and flew along at 80mph no problem! Takes just a minute to remove or attach.

Love this unit! Install was simple. It's solid, heavy duty, and folds up out of the way.

Product came in a single box in perfect shape. Great construction, easy to put together. I bought this to go on the front of my John Deere Gator 855D. Sometimes, there just isn't enough room to pack everything you need when going down the trail or you don't feel like slinging a Honda generator and a heavy cooler packed full of ice and your favorite beverages up in the back of the bed. This cargo carrier fit the bill perfectly. It took all of 5 minutes to put it together and slide into the front 2" receiver on my gator. With the fold up design, I have 22" of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the carrier when carrier is folded out horizontal. Being the carrier is 48" wide, it is narrower than the gator, so I don't have to worry about trying to squeeze through a tight space in the woods. If the gator will go through the space, so will the carrier rack. When I don't need the carrier, it is a snap to pull the pin, swing the carrier rack 90 degrees up and pop the pin back in. Even when folded into the upright position, you can easily see over the carrier rack. Thanks for making a great product.

by:

The cargo basket was installed in 20-minutes on my 1999 Chevy Tracker. It is a two person job one person to hold the basket and one person to line up the holes in the basket, it was easy. it took more time to cut up the cardboard packaging.

The cargo basket, when folded in the upright position has a one inch clearance from the external spare tire.

Two bungee cords are necessary to prevent the cargo unit from wobbling when folded in the upright position..

This cargo carrier arrived in just a few days and was super easy to do the final assembly and begin using on my car. Perfect for carrying my shade tent and other gear while attending my sons soccer games and allowing me to use my compact car.

by:

Awesome cargo basket!Holds up great in the canyon I hunt.I would not hesitate to by it again. With the Curt anti rattle kit it is rock solid and I never know it’s back there.

by:

The wire mesh was bowed out right from the box. Could of purchased a better quality carrier for half the price.

by:

Love the combo! Trailer, hitch, attachment plate, lock. I mostly carry gardening tools on trailer. So much easier to access and store tools on trailer than load then unload them from inside Highlander. Trailer also handy for carrying large materials. With strategy, crate and hand trolley, I can remove and reattach trailer solo. Am 71, 5'3"

by:

Solid construction and works great on my ATV, when folded it tucks up closely and allows me to take my ATV on any trail without any problem. Take a look at my pictures and see for yourself. I'm very happy with my purchase!

by:

48inch cargo racks more then doubled my cargo capacity!

by:

It's a super cool setup and works great! My only downsize is it doesn't fold up against my rear tire on the back of my jeep, but oh well...still love the product!

Do you have the clearance to open your back door with the carrier in the down position?

by:

Cargo carrier came well packed and was delivered fast. I have purchased several items from etrailer over the last couple years and have always been completely happy witht the products, price and speed of delivery. This carrier is on my 2014 CRV. It is the perfect width and gives enough ground clearance that I don't have to worry about it scraping the ground on steep driveways. Took 5 minutes to put it together and install it. I plan on using a bolt/ locknut in place of the pin assembly that controls the tilt feature to reduce looseness/ rattle when driving and also purchasing an anti-rattle hitch pin. Overall, very happy with the carrier.

Still going strong after 1 year ! No regrets on this purchase.

by:

I ordered one of these for my 2002 Jeep Wrangler and am very pleased with it. I thought I was going to need a hitch extender to clear the factory spare tire mounted on the rear of the Jeep when it was in the folded up position, but found that it was not necessary. It clears the tire by a couple of inches when it's in the "up" positon.

It does everything I hoped it would. Folds up out of the way until you need it.

package was badly damage, call right away and asked for a replacement , item looks like it had been open and someone try to re-package it backup , diffidently did not come from the factory.

Downsizing from a GMC Envoy to a Ford Escape, i was looking for something to recover some of the space I lost for hauling. The Pro Series carrier has done the trick. I paired it with the anti rattle hitch receiver. I recommend that combo, as I literally forgot I was had anything attached behind me at times. Also, the anti rattle receiver locks, which the provided receiver does not. I chose the smaller 20x48 but it carried 3 15x20 inch plastic bins nicely. The carrier was easy to assemble, and while heavy, was easy on and off. It can be a little awkward to insert the pins reaching over or around the carrier, but its generally easy to work with. Now I must say, I also purchased the Highland cargo net, and that was a huge waste. The cargo net may work with different carriers or roof carriers, but the plastic hooks are too large for the holes in this carrier, and was too hard to use. I ended up snapping off two of the hooks before switching to some Walmart purchased bungee cords with the metal hooks. So I am all in on the carrier and the anti rattle receiver, but save your money on the cargo net.

by:

I've used the cargo carrier on a couple of car-camping trips now, and it's just what I needed. My vehicle, a 2009 Subaru Forester, has a fairly modest max. tongue weight, so I don't dare load up the carrier with a lot of heavy things. Instead, I've got the Rola Expandable Cargo Bag that I stuff with the lighter, bulky items, and put coolers and other heavier supplies inside the vehicle. The one trouble I've had is that the second set of holes in the shank that allow for the cargo platform to fold up, parallel to the car, don't line up exactly right, preventing the lock pin from being inserted to secure it in the "up" position. I'm not quite sure yet of how I'll address that, but it hasn't been a huge problem.

by:

I bought this to replace one I lost while 4 wheeling while elk hunting. The pin hit a rock and the key was pushed out. Miles later it must have fallen off on a very rough road. Did not notice until we were 300 miles away. Went back to look for it and only found the key where it had fallen by the rocks I had hit. Found the pin about 5 miles away but i think someone got a freebie on the carrier.
So, because it is so handy and useful, I bought another one. It is the only thing that will carry an elk with my 4 runner. Also use it for carrying mining equipment that won't fit in my Pick up truck and for construction equipment.
It is a very stout carrier and the best I could find, with the best clearance. I tend to load it to its limits. Only "complaint" is after many miles on dirt roads it tends to rattle more (due to wear), so I just stuff a shim in the hitch to keep it quiet. Highly recommended!

  • Comparing Curt Cargo Carrier C18109 and Pro Series Carrier 6502
No, these are 2 different brands. The Pro Series carrier is made by Cequent/Horizon Global and on it is # 6502. The other one, # C18109, is made by Curt manufacturing. The Curt model is also larger at 19 x 60 inches compared to 20 x 48 inches for # 6502. Both only fit 2 inch trailer hitches, both can fold up, and both have a 500 pound capacity. Another key difference is that the Curt model has a straight shank and the Pro Series has a rise in the shank (if more ground clearance is needed)....

  • Best Cargo Carrier between Curt C18150 and Pro Series 6502 for a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek w/2" Hitch
I recommend going with a cargo carrier with a 2 inch shank because it will be the best fit with the least amount of movement between the carrier shank and the hitch receiver. So between the 2 you are looking at that would be # 6502. You could go with Curt carrier # C18152 which costs less than the Pro Series carrier, fits 2 inch hitches only, and is a little bit larger at 24 x 60 inches.

As far as the lights go, are you perhaps speaking of a light kit for #RL100650 or a hitch mounted cargo carrier? If so, we offer a few different choices but some of them are pretty specific to the brand or design of the carrier used. The # 98174LED is designed for carriers with oblong holes in the...

  • Will the Reese Cargo Carrier with Bag Installed Block/Interfere with Exhaust
The 20x48 Reese Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches part # 6502 is an excellent option and it has a raised/extended shank to help keep your contents away from objects such as the exhaust so I do agree with your hypothesis. That said, this could vary so much from vehicle to vehicle it would be hard to give a definite yes/no answers. However, we do have the 24x60 etrailer.com Off Road Cargo Carrier part # e98874 which has a 2" rise in the shank and sits 19-1\2" away from the hitch pin hole when...

  • Cargo Carrier with Bike Rack for Simultaneous Use on 2010 Chevrolet Traverse
It is almost a certainty that using two hitch-mount accessories at the same time on your 2010 Traverse will result in interference between the two carriers themselves and/or the bikes and cargo loaded on them. There are no cargo carriers that have a receiver tube on their back to allow for piggy-backing a second hitch-type accessory such as a bike rack. These do not exist because such an arrangement would place extreme stress on the hitch and vehicle frame and would be likely to damage...

  • Recommended Diesel Generator Carrier for the Front of an RV
We do carry plenty of options to carry a diesel generator on the front of your RV, however I am going to need to know some specifics about the generator you have and how you're planning on carrying it. If you're looking for something compatible with a trailer hitch then you'd need something like the 20x48 Reese Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # 6502, or if you're wanting to bolt it to your bumper then you'd want something like the 24x40 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper # e99050. Let...

  • Recommendation for Carrying a Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier on a Truck or Trailer
I have a solution for you that you may find better than putting a hitch on the back of the trailer. Take a look at CURT Multipurpose Ball Mount, # D210. With this ball mount, you would be able to tow the trailer with the ball mount portion and carrier a cargo carrier on the top receiver portion, provided that the combined tongue weight of the trailer, cargo carrier, and generator does not exceed 750 pounds, and the total weight placed in the ball mount receiver does not exceed 350 lbs. The...

  • Availability of Lighter Weight Hitch Cargo Carrier with Shank Rise and 500 Pound Weight Capacity
I have a couple of great hitch mount cargo carrier options for you, but we do not offer an aluminum carrier with a shank that has a rise. All of our aluminum carriers have a straight shank. One of our lighter weight options for a steel carrier with a 500 pound weight capacity is the Pro Series Cargo Carrier for 2 Inch Hitches # 6502. The weight of this carrier alone is 48 pounds. This carrier's shank does not have a rise, but the carrier does sit up higher than the shank due to the way...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier to Clear 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rear Bumper when Folded
When folded up the Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18109 measures just 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier so it would not work on your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The carrier that has the most clearance when folded up is Pro Series carrier # 6502. It measures 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier when folded up. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you. I have...

  • Distance Between Hitch Pin Hole and Rear Bumper When # C13052 is Installed on 2011 Land Rover LR2
When we do an install video, we will typically get the measurement you are looking for. Unfortunately, we have not yet had the opportunity to install a hitch on a 2011 Land Rover LR2. With high hopes I called Curt hoping that they would be able to provide that dimension, but they do not measure that dimension during their test fits. This being said, Curt was able to provide me with some dimensions that we can use to approximate the distance. All is not lost if you are willing to crawl...
