Buyer beware!!!! I haul a 280 pound Honda CRF450L dirtbike --- and this hitch ramp is horrible. I wish etrailer would offer a better quality motorcycle carrier. This one wobbles all over the place, is made with thin wall steel that bends easily, and is not made of good quality. I urge you to look elsewhere if you care about your bike. Will it hold....yes, but will you worry about your wobbling back back and fourth the whole time your driving worth it? I say not.The bends are where the bolts go through the unit when tightening them due to the thin material thickness. Also the top cross braces bend making the two peice design a weak design. When moto is on carrier it wobbles in the receiver terribly bad from side to side. I use a anti wobble device but it does not help. I have since just put the ramp in my junk pile and working on finding a better solution to haul my very exspensive moto.

Comments
You mentioned that the carrier wobbles and that it bends easily. I have a few follow up questions to ask. Where is it bending? When you say that it is wobbling, is it loose in the receiver? Or just that the bike is wobbly?

I did send this feedback to the manufacturer who advised that without more information on what might have happened, it would be hard for them to comment on this. They do have the carriers independently tested prior to distribution. I checked with the other cargo carriers that we offer and this was the only motorcycle carrier that we currently have.

The carrier was straightforward and easy to assemble. I have a 300lb. TW 200. The first time i ran it up the ramp, I used the motor and first gear. It took of bit of trial and error, but I finally got the placement on the "pins" where the front wheel drops in correctly. After that, the ramp was shallow enough where I just put the bike in "N" and ran her up and down a few times.

I like the ramp. I really do...I just wish it was a BIT beefier. Some of the gravel, rutted, backwoods roads I take to ride might throw the bike around pretty good. I used thread lock where needed.

Great product and experience from the beginning!! We ordered it with the free standard shipping 5-7 days and I got an email saying they shipped it express 3-5 days at no extra cost!!! We received it really fast!! I also feel it is a great buy for the money!!!

We haven't used it on our motor home yet but used it yesterday on our truck to pick up our new scooter. It worked perfectly! We also purchased the Anti-Tilt Bracket ANTI-REV-REV and I highly recommend it!! Without it there was a little wiggle but with it it didn't move at all.

Can't wait to try it out on our first camping trip in the motor home!!!

Comments
Have you used it behind the motorhome? Do you dind that the ramp is not long enough?
-- comment by: Jim M - 05/04/2015
To Jim M - yes we used it for our motorhome and it worked great! We ended up selling the scooter and carrier - but while we had it we loved the carrier!!

The rock bands under the weight of a 240 pound WR450. Construction is just overall poor and design makes it difficult to get bikes with knobby tires in and out of the rack. I’m not sure I even trust it on rough roads. Definitely recommend not going with this. The only good thing is the price.

by:

Sweet! Super easy to build and light enough to handle. I have to get a run at it because my truck is lifted and my hitch is high. I might build an extended ramp that will allow a shallower pitch for loading.
Just a tip...figure out pin location by loading bike on the rack with it on the ground instead of trying to do it on vehicle the first time. In addition to load straps I also use large Velcro straps with built in carabineers on rims. I also use a anti sway U-bolt and plate to tighten rack to receiver hitch, that keeps everything pretty stable.
Awesome product guys, thanks

by:

Not very sturdy and doesn't stick out far enough with a front mount on my Ram. Also, dual sport 400, doesn't really fit well and not sure if I can even use it. I'll keep working at it to see if I can get it to fit and maybe there is an extension to help stick out a little further in order to strap it down.

I bought the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier to haul a 150cc scooter on the back of my RV (see photo).

I received the item 2 days after I ordered it. All parts and directions were included. Assembly was simple. The overall quality of construction and powder coating is very good. Although the directions don’t say so, I would recommend “test fitting” your bike/scooter after the carrier is assembled and while it is still on the ground, in order to ensure the appropriate placement of the cross bolts and safety pins.

I could not get the scooter on the carrier using the included 3’ ramp. It was too steep of an incline and the middle of my scooter got hung-up where the ramp meets the carrier platform. It tore off the plastic mud cover under the scooter and the ramp slid off the end of the platform. Fortunately, I was able to lift the scooter off the platform without further damage. I would highly recommend that (for safety) you have 2 people on hand during the initial installation. (I didn’t.) Once properly installed, it is a 1-man operation to load/unload the bike/scooter. I had to swing my right side rear view mirror in for clearance to the back of the RV. This would not be required for a pickup truck installation.

I was able to get the scooter onto the carrier using a 6’ folding motorcycle ramp that I have. This made the incline much less steep and the scooter easily rolled onto the carrier in a one-man operation. Having to carry the extra motorcycle ramp is going to be a hassle, and it defeats the purpose of the included detachable/stowable ramp, but it’s the only way I can get the scooter loaded. I’m sure that the included 3’ ramp would be great for a dirt bike with higher clearance under the frame, but with a low slung scooter, it won’t work. The safety pins that are intended to go through the spokes of the front wheel do not work on my scooter’s 13” wheel. I tried adjusting the cross bolts as per the directions, but the configuration of my wheels just won’t work with these pins. I’m sure they would work with a dirt bike wheel. I used ratchet straps to hold the wheels securely in place in lieu of the pins.

My scooter has a lot of plastic body parts, which makes it difficult to find secure tie-down points. I tied it down with 4 ratchet straps as documented in the photo and I took it on a test drive. I was able to watch the scooter on my rear-view video camera. It rode well.

I am satisfied with the product, but I would not recommend it for scooters like mine. A longer ramp would make it more user-friendly for scooters. As is, it is best used for dirt bikes.

Assembly took 30 minutes. Pretty easy. Seems solidly built. Would recommend anti-wobble bracket to reduce/eliminate the hitch play. Haven't used it yet. Customer service(emails and followup) has been good. Good company it seems.

by:

Product came just as pictured. Very easy to put together, less then 20 min. Test fit with a 2016 Husqvarna and it did great. I will be purchasing a hitch stabalizer because I will be going off road with it and don't want it to move at all. It has very minimal movement though. Overall very happy with product.

Used this carrier for my DR650, put it on my Equinox that I use as a TOAD behind my Coachmen Motirhome. Went from Waco, TX, to Taos, NM, to Douglas, AZ, to Tyler, TX - then back to Waco. Carrier held up great - no problems, and I can load and unload it with ease ( 71 years old )

Had to assemble and was able to do so rather easily, however the instructions were a bit vague. It will work for what I want it to do. I am using it on the front of my pickup to carry a 50cc Vespa. I'm going to use an extra strap attached to my brush guard, pulling back, to ensure the scooter doesn't try to roll forward.

by:

This worked great for my klr 650. I hauled it on the front of my truck across the country and back about 7,000 miles. Only problem is the ramp can fall off as you load bike. I had to use strap to keep it attached.

by:

Product is just as described, but the etrailer staff provided outstanding customer service!! We had tried for over 6 months to get a suitable rack for my ebike and finally gave up and decided on this one. We wanted it for a trip, and they made sure it arrived on time (even with free shipping)!

by:

I have not used this on the road yet as I just installed it, but these are my initial impressions:

Pros:
1. The build quality seems good and strong
2. The assembly was easy
3. It is relatively compact to store and mount, much better option then storing a trailer in my garage.
4. Cost is great.
5. Super easy to load the bike on and off.
6. It looks pretty awesome with the bike on it, and I can actually load the bike the night before and it still fits in my garage so I can leave early the next day.

Cons:
1. The ramp is mounted on the same brace as the bike tie down hook. So getting it on and off while the bike is mounted is not the easiest, you can do it but you need to really wiggle it in. Ideally if you have two people you put the ramp in before you tie the bike down but its not always possible.
2. When the bike is loaded on the ramp without the tie downs, it does not stand on its own so you can walk around easily and tie it down. You need to do a balancing act to get it secured. This isn't really an issue with the ramp, and I'm not sure of a solution, but maybe something to consider if you plan on loading and unloading by yourself with a 60k SUV just moments away from a bike accidentally falling on it..

by:

I was a little concerned that the lower price might reflect quality of this carrier, i was pleasantly surprised. This is a solid carrier easy to load easy to unload, I've been trying it for a while before i take a trip, and i almost forget its there. I went out and bought an extra 8" bolt because i only haul the one bike and do not need the tire diameter adjustability. The extra bolt keeps the front up on the rails and doesn't drop in until the last dip rather than in the last two dips. TIP: Get the ramp put back on right away before you fully strap the bike down, otherwise the strap hooks interfere with getting the ramp in place. GREAT PRODUCT, FAST SHIPPING, GREAT WEB SITE! Keep up the good work etrailer!

by:

I used this rack to pick up a new dirt bike (~250 lbs dry weight) that was 4 hour drive from my house. I used a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the bike loaded very easily when idled up onto the rack in 1st gear while walking beside it. Tons of clearance between the bike and the rear of the vehicle so no concerns there. The tie-down points work really well and the bike seemed very stable. I added a tensioning device to keep the rack from wobbling in the receiver, which I would recommend. Overall, I'm very satisfied, especially considering the great price on this rack.
To provide a complete review, I will point out some things that I think could be improved: (1) Since the main tray is divided into two sections, it sags into a sort of frown shape after the bike is on for some time. This is due to the slop in the mounting holes where the support straps attach. This could be done better. (2) At least when the rack is empty, the ramp sort of clatters around in it's mount because there is quite a bit of play. I just threw the ramp inside my vehicle as it is pretty small.

Comments
Im still using this rack regularly and my initial review still stands.

The product was delivered quickly and was easy to assemble. Worked as advertised with no issues. The problem however was not with the product but the packaging. But don’t know who was responsible for the box to be all tore up and open on one end. But can’t ding the product because it worked just fine.

by:

It’s kind of tippy but has to stick out in order for the handlebars to clear. More strapping I guess. Great customer service from Ed W!!

by:

bought this carrier cause it said you could use it for scooters. I have a 2015 yamaha smax 150 scooter, it weighs 329 lbs well within the capability of the carrier. after carrying the bike 125 miles the rear tire side had sagged down a long ways. got bike off raised up that side retightened bolts. got back home with nothing breaking. but was sweating bullets. And it had sagged down again. this thing is really flimsy but in there defense it is designed for small motor cycles where the weight of the engine is centered over the center of the carrier. With a scooter all of the weight is on rear wheel where its weak and flimsy. etrailer should not recommend this flimsy carrier to scooter owners. I don't Know what to do with it now that I have tightened the bolts so much that the flimsy metal is distorted. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE A SCOOTER. if either of the two bolts break on the support strap that end of your scooter is going into the street.

by:

Went together easy, Took some trial and error to locate cross bolts locations to fit my bike.

by:

This is exactly what I was looking for to haul my Kawasaki KLX300. Makes loading/unloading a breeze and beats trying to load into the back of my truck via a ramp. I was initially worried about stability, but now that I've hauled it on freeways and rough gravel roads I have no worries at all. Of course the best part of this is the eTrailer buying experience. Best customer service in the business.

by:

First, let me say that I dealt with two different people in placing my order. The reason being? I was trying to find a motorcycle rack that would accommodate my BMW G310GS (374 lbs curb weight) on the back of a Class C RV. I tried MANY different companies and NONE but etrailer came through for me. All of the previous companies - and there were lots said they couldn't help me, or couldn't recommend a rack for the back of a Class C RV.

I was pretty frustrated at this point and when I found one on etrailer that looked like it might work, I was still paranoid that it wouldn't. The first person I worked with offered to call the manufacturer and verify it would be recommend for the back of a Class C RV. Now the amazing thing, they actually call back - that day!

I couldn't take the call, so listen to a voice mail. When I called back I was dealing with a second person Meghan, who was dialed in on what I needed and how to get there. I also wanted an anti-rattle gizmo that goes inside your vehicle's trailer receiver. Wasn't clear to me exactly was the dimensions represented in relation to my vehicle. So......... Meghan was VERY patient as I literally went outside to my RV with a tape measure and we conferred on whether the part would fit my vehicle.

Double Score: Rack that will work with my Class C RV and the anti-rattle gimzo.

Great customer service, and humor to boot!!

So.....I am very happy to anoint Meghan as my HERO OF THE DAY.

Ya done good!

by:

Easy to assemble. Anti-tilt is a huge plus, must have it. Using it on the back of my motorcoach to haul a Honda PCX-150 scooter. So far, so good.

The Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier # UF48-979033 would work for transporting your 2012 Vespa GTS 300 behind your 1995 Chevy Motorhome. It's the only motorcycle carrier we have that's rated behind a motorhome. The Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier is rated for a maximum capacity of up to 500 pounds. From my research it looks like your 2012 Vespa GTS Super 300 curb weight is approximately 326 pounds. The carrier itself weighs 51 pounds for a combined weight of 377 pounds, and this is well within...

  • Will a Honda Dream fit on the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier
The Ultra Fab # UF48-979033 motorcycle carrier would work for you if the tires on your motorcycle are no wider than 5 inches. Please check the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your Jeep and make sure that it is rated appropriately for using this motorcycle carrier. If not then I would recommend using a small utility trailer for transporting your motorcycle with your Jeep. The 50 pound weight of this carrier added to the weight of your bike must be less than the tongue weight limit...

  • Can a Suzuki Burgman 400 be Carried on Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier on the Back of an RV
The Suzuki Burgman is built more like a motorcycle than a scooter so using a motorcycle carrier can work. However, you need a carrier that has the capacity for the scooter (which Ultra-Fab carrier # UF48-979033 does have for the scooter dry weight) and the hitch and vehicle need to be rated high enough for the combined weight of the scooter and carrier. The dry weight of the 400 Burgman appears to be 489 pounds. With fluids it is likely over 500 pounds. If that is the case then you cannot...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Scooter Carrier for a 2014 Winnebago Itasca Motor Home
Ultra-Fab carrier, # UF48-979033, weighs about 50 pounds making the combined weight of the carrier and scooter 400 pounds. With a hitch tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds it is well within the capacity of the hitch. You will want to have the scooter's center of gravity, wherever it is the heaviest, as close to the center of the carrier as possible.

  • Will a Kymco GT People 300i Scooter Fit Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier
I looked at some pictures for the Kymco GT People 300i scooter and I do believe that it will work on the Ultra-Fab motorcycle carrier # UF48-979033. You would have to place the pins that cradle the wheels as close together as possible to avoid the tires on the scooter from dropping too low which would cause the brakes/suspension components to contact the rack. The trailer hitch you are using will need to have a tongue weight capacity greater than the combined weight of the carrier, about...

  • Will a Honda PCX 150 Scooter Fit Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier on a 2008 Forest River RV
Since you want to use a carrier on the back of an RV your options are limited to the Ultra-Fab carrier # UF48-979033. None of the other carriers are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer. The carrier is approximately 34 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest out part of the carrier. It is 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier. You should not have a problem getting your Honda PCX 150 on the carrier. Other customers...
