Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier with Ramp Review

Today we're going to be doing a review and installation of the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier for 2-inch hitches. Part Number UF48-979033. This is what your Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier will look like once you have it fully installed with a motorcycle in place and strapped down properly. Now, this rack is capable of carrying 1 bike, not to exceed 500 pounds of weight. It's going to be perfect for your dirt bikes and scooters. This bike rack is going to include a ramp that attaches to the back that can be placed at either side.

Simply remove the clip and pin that retains it. Lift it up, giving you the ability to position it on either side. Here's what your ramp will look like placed on the back. It'll make it easy for unloading and loading the bike from either side. Now, we're going over to and see what it looks like on the front. You can see there's going to be a very gradual and slight incline to get the bike unloaded.

Now, you could see that we have the large safety pin positioned through our wheel. You'll see that our tire is completely down in the cradle on both sides making contact with the front and back. This is going to be your safety pin. In case that the straps decide to come off, you have that safety mechanism in place to help the bike stay on your rack. Simply remove the clip, and slide the pin out of the way.

Place it back in when you're ready to hit the road. Then, you'll know that all the safety precautions have been taken. There'll be 2 large diameter safety pins here at the front. 1 to position as the cradle, and 1 to be as a safety pin. You could see that they could be positioned in different places to fit different wheel bases and size tires. You could see that it's going to have that nice, durable steel construction to put up with the elements of the road.

You could see that you're going to have the nice tied up points on either side of your shank to help provide that nice, sturdy tie down point that's going to be fully welded in construction. Just note that the straps and tie downs are going to be sold separately. You see it's going to have that nice black powder coat finish. That's going to have that real nice look. It's going to resist any kind of rust or corrosion. Now with this back from the track, we're ready to go ahead and load up our motorcycle. First thing we'll do is get it straightened and lined up on the ramp. Start in into place. Go ahead and dismount. Roll it up on. Once the tire drops from that front cradle, we're going to be all set to start anchoring it down and securing it with our tie down straps. Go ahead and place your safety pin through the wheel, and secure it. Now, let's go ahead and tie it on our safety straps. The first safety strap we'll place on is the one nearest to the vehicle. Place your hook around the handle bar. Bring it down. Make sure that your strap is not twisted. Hook it up to the nearest hole. Pull up. Give it a couple cranks, but don't tighten it down. This is going to be our safety strap, so when we put down the other side, it won't fall off the vehicle. Go and hook up your other strap. Bring it down into position. Once you have it in position, go ahead and start wrenching down that one and work them down together. Once you have your straps tied down, let's go ahead and place that ramp back in the center here. You can also slide on the ramp if you've already placed on your safety straps from the side inaudible 00:03:36 it rest in the middle, just like so. Then, take the safety pin and clip over the top. Now, we're going to go ahead and tie down our excess slack on our straps. We'll be ready to hit the track. Here, we have our Ultra-fab Motorcycle Carrier completely put together. Now, we're ready to go ahead and put it into our 2-inch receiver, via the 2-inch shank here. Simply lift it up into place and slide it into the back of the receiver. Next, line up the pin holes and place in your 5-inch cinch pin. Once you have your pin through, go ahead and slide in the safety clip, and you're ready to hit the road. All right. Now, we're going to go ahead and get a couple of measurements. For the center of our pin hole, to the outer most point of the rack is going to be about 31 and 1/4 inches. Our closest distance will be up here from the front tie down point at about 5 inches. Our width of the rack is going to be about 77 inches. Then, you also have the nice little ramp that comes off the side which is going to give you about an extra 35 inches off to the side to get your bike off. Our ground clearance from the back side is going to be about 16 and 5/8 inches. Now, we're going to go ahead and see what it looks like with our motorcycle in place. That will do it for our review and installation of the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier. Part number UF48-979033.

Had to assemble and was able to do so rather easily, however the instructions were a bit vague. It will work for what I want it to do. I am using it on the front of my pickup to carry a 50cc Vespa. I'm going to use an extra strap attached to my brush guard, pulling back, to ensure the scooter doesn't try to roll forward. 587772

First, let me say that I dealt with two different people in placing my order. The reason being? I was trying to find a motorcycle rack that would accommodate my BMW G310GS (374 lbs curb weight) on the back of a Class C RV. I tried MANY different companies and NONE but etrailer came through for me. All of the previous companies - and there were lots said they couldn't help me, or couldn't recommend a rack for the back of a Class C RV. I was pretty frustrated at this point and when I found one on etrailer that looked like it might work, I was still paranoid that it wouldn't. The first person I worked with offered to call the manufacturer and verify it would be recommend for the back of a Class C RV. Now the amazing thing, they actually call back - that day! I couldn't take the call, so listen to a voice mail. When I called back I was dealing with a second person Meghan, who was dialed in on what I needed and how to get there. I also wanted an anti-rattle gizmo that goes inside your vehicle's trailer receiver. Wasn't clear to me exactly was the dimensions represented in relation to my vehicle. So......... Meghan was VERY patient as I literally went outside to my RV with a tape measure and we conferred on whether the part would fit my vehicle. Double Score: Rack that will work with my Class C RV and the anti-rattle gimzo. Great customer service, and humor to boot!! So.....I am very happy to anoint Meghan as my HERO OF THE DAY. Ya done good! 573600

I bought the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier to haul a 150cc scooter on the back of my RV (see photo). I received the item 2 days after I ordered it. All parts and directions were included. Assembly was simple. The overall quality of construction and powder coating is very good. Although the directions don’t say so, I would recommend “test fitting” your bike/scooter after the carrier is assembled and while it is still on the ground, in order to ensure the appropriate placement of the cross bolts and safety pins. I could not get the scooter on the carrier using the included 3’ ramp. It was too steep of an incline and the middle of my scooter got hung-up where the ramp meets the carrier platform. It tore off the plastic mud cover under the scooter and the ramp slid off the end of the platform. Fortunately, I was able to lift the scooter off the platform without further damage. I would highly recommend that (for safety) you have 2 people on hand during the initial installation. (I didn’t.) Once properly installed, it is a 1-man operation to load/unload the bike/scooter. I had to swing my right side rear view mirror in for clearance to the back of the RV. This would not be required for a pickup truck installation. I was able to get the scooter onto the carrier using a 6’ folding motorcycle ramp that I have. This made the incline much less steep and the scooter easily rolled onto the carrier in a one-man operation. Having to carry the extra motorcycle ramp is going to be a hassle, and it defeats the purpose of the included detachable/stowable ramp, but it’s the only way I can get the scooter loaded. I’m sure that the included 3’ ramp would be great for a dirt bike with higher clearance under the frame, but with a low slung scooter, it won’t work. The safety pins that are intended to go through the spokes of the front wheel do not work on my scooter’s 13” wheel. I tried adjusting the cross bolts as per the directions, but the configuration of my wheels just won’t work with these pins. I’m sure they would work with a dirt bike wheel. I used ratchet straps to hold the wheels securely in place in lieu of the pins. My scooter has a lot of plastic body parts, which makes it difficult to find secure tie-down points. I tied it down with 4 ratchet straps as documented in the photo and I took it on a test drive. I was able to watch the scooter on my rear-view video camera. It rode well. I am satisfied with the product, but I would not recommend it for scooters like mine. A longer ramp would make it more user-friendly for scooters. As is, it is best used for dirt bikes. 573840

Product came just as pictured. Very easy to put together, less then 20 min. Test fit with a 2016 Husqvarna and it did great. I will be purchasing a hitch stabalizer because I will be going off road with it and don't want it to move at all. It has very minimal movement though. Overall very happy with product. 306618

Used this carrier for my DR650, put it on my Equinox that I use as a TOAD behind my Coachmen Motirhome. Went from Waco, TX, to Taos, NM, to Douglas, AZ, to Tyler, TX - then back to Waco. Carrier held up great - no problems, and I can load and unload it with ease ( 71 years old ) 529071

I was a little concerned that the lower price might reflect quality of this carrier, i was pleasantly surprised. This is a solid carrier easy to load easy to unload, I've been trying it for a while before i take a trip, and i almost forget its there. I went out and bought an extra 8" bolt because i only haul the one bike and do not need the tire diameter adjustability. The extra bolt keeps the front up on the rails and doesn't drop in until the last dip rather than in the last two dips. TIP: Get the ramp put back on right away before you fully strap the bike down, otherwise the strap hooks interfere with getting the ramp in place. GREAT PRODUCT, FAST SHIPPING, GREAT WEB SITE! Keep up the good work etrailer! 425435

Great product and experience from the beginning!! We ordered it with the free standard shipping 5-7 days and I got an email saying they shipped it express 3-5 days at no extra cost!!! We received it really fast!! I also feel it is a great buy for the money!!! We haven't used it on our motor home yet but used it yesterday on our truck to pick up our new scooter. It worked perfectly! We also purchased the Anti-Tilt Bracket ANTI-REV-REV and I highly recommend it!! Without it there was a little wiggle but with it it didn't move at all. Can't wait to try it out on our first camping trip in the motor home!!! 123942

Received the product within three days from ordering. Easy to assemble for left or right hand entry. Attached to our 35' Winnebago Sightseer to haul our Yamaha Vino scooter. First use was from Medina, Ohio to the Finger Lakes, NY. No issues, works perfect! The Anit-Tilt is a must as it prevents any wobble from the hitch and receiver! 438812

I used this rack to pick up a new dirt bike (~250 lbs dry weight) that was 4 hour drive from my house. I used a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the bike loaded very easily when idled up onto the rack in 1st gear while walking beside it. Tons of clearance between the bike and the rear of the vehicle so no concerns there. The tie-down points work really well and the bike seemed very stable. I added a tensioning device to keep the rack from wobbling in the receiver, which I would recommend. Overall, I'm very satisfied, especially considering the great price on this rack. To provide a complete review, I will point out some things that I think could be improved: (1) Since the main tray is divided into two sections, it sags into a sort of frown shape after the bike is on for some time. This is due to the slop in the mounting holes where the support straps attach. This could be done better. (2) At least when the rack is empty, the ramp sort of clatters around in it's mount because there is quite a bit of play. I just threw the ramp inside my vehicle as it is pretty small. 562393

bought this carrier cause it said you could use it for scooters. I have a 2015 yamaha smax 150 scooter, it weighs 329 lbs well within the capability of the carrier. after carrying the bike 125 miles the rear tire side had sagged down a long ways. got bike off raised up that side retightened bolts. got back home with nothing breaking. but was sweating bullets. And it had sagged down again. this thing is really flimsy but in there defense it is designed for small motor cycles where the weight of the engine is centered over the center of the carrier. With a scooter all of the weight is on rear wheel where its weak and flimsy. etrailer should not recommend this flimsy carrier to scooter owners. I don't Know what to do with it now that I have tightened the bolts so much that the flimsy metal is distorted. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE A SCOOTER. if either of the two bolts break on the support strap that end of your scooter is going into the street. 433364

Assembly took 30 minutes. Pretty easy. Seems solidly built. Would recommend anti-wobble bracket to reduce/eliminate the hitch play. Haven't used it yet. Customer service(emails and followup) has been good. Good company it seems. 363543

I have not used this on the road yet as I just installed it, but these are my initial impressions: Pros: 1. The build quality seems good and strong 2. The assembly was easy 3. It is relatively compact to store and mount, much better option then storing a trailer in my garage. 4. Cost is great. 5. Super easy to load the bike on and off. 6. It looks pretty awesome with the bike on it, and I can actually load the bike the night before and it still fits in my garage so I can leave early the next day. Cons: 1. The ramp is mounted on the same brace as the bike tie down hook. So getting it on and off while the bike is mounted is not the easiest, you can do it but you need to really wiggle it in. Ideally if you have two people you put the ramp in before you tie the bike down but its not always possible. 2. When the bike is loaded on the ramp without the tie downs, it does not stand on its own so you can walk around easily and tie it down. You need to do a balancing act to get it secured. This isn't really an issue with the ramp, and I'm not sure of a solution, but maybe something to consider if you plan on loading and unloading by yourself with a 60k SUV just moments away from a bike accidentally falling on it.. 440858

Nice little rack for use on the back of our small motorhome. I haul a Honda Grom 125cc street bike for errands, etc. I had to modify the rack by adding cross bars at each end with steel tie-down loops so that I could secure the bike better. With the stock, center tie-down points, the straps rubbed and would cause paint/finish damage. The wife was not crazy about "her" bike getting damaged. Otherwise, it works as advertised. I added a few additional washers here and there that I thought should have been included as well.... 307949

This worked great for my klr 650. I hauled it on the front of my truck across the country and back about 7,000 miles. Only problem is the ramp can fall off as you load bike. I had to use strap to keep it attached. 622090

Do you have a question about this Hitch Cargo Carrier?

  • Capacity Detail K2 Motorcycle Carrier # MT70101 Explained
  • The capacities of the Detail K2 Carrier part # K2TMC201 vary depending on the tongue weight capacity of the hitch it is installed in. They rate it like this to help you prevent overloading the hitch. Also you have to keep in mind that a lower rated hitch is going to allow a bit more flex which would possibly put more strain on the rack as well. I attached a chart that shows how the numbers relate to each other. What you need to do is find out the tongue weight capacity of your hitch...

  • Carrying a 400 Pound Motorcycle at the Back of an RV
  • The use of any extender is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. So if the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 750 pounds the use of an extender will reduce it to 375 pounds. Also the further the loaded carrier is away from the hitch the more movement it will have which puts considerably more stress on the hitch so I do not recommend the use of an extender for those 2 reasons. The other option is to use a different carrier; one that is rated...

  • Any accessory that is to be mounted on the back of an RV - either a motorhome like your Class B or on a trailer or camper - has to be made and rated specifically for that type of use. The reason is that the greater distance between the axle and hitch on such vehicles means more leverage (and more stress) will be applied to that accessory item. On passenger cars the axle-to-hitch distance is much shorter, just a few feet, and this of course puts less stress on the items. You also want...

Adapters simply are not strong enough for the tongue weight you are seeking. Your best option is to use the Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 7-1/2"...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for Mazda 3 to Carry Motorcycle
  • For your 2014 Mazda 3 GT, there are only Class I trailer hitches available. The Class I trailer hitches are only capable of a 200 lb tongue weight, so you will not be able to use a motorcycle carrier like # UF48-979033 or similar you have pictured. You will need to use a trailer for your sport bike to haul behind your vehicle. My recommendation for your vehicle is to start with the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24912. Then use ball mount # 3593 and hitch ball # 19258. Then for your trailer...

  • Recommendation For Front Mount Hitch And Motorcycle Carrier For 2006 Toyota Tundra
  • The Draw-Tite Front Mount Hitch, Item # 65031, that referenced is a confirm fit for your 2006 Toyota Tundra. It has a 500 lbs vertical load limit and a total weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. It has an easy, bolt-on installation with all the hardware included. You can easily attach all kinds of accessories to it including a motorcycle carrier. The Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier, Item # UF48-979033, will not work well for you because it works with 5 inch, not 7 inch, tires. I recommend...

  • Dirt Bike Carrier and Ramp Recommendation for 2014 Subaru Crosstrek
  • There are a couple of ways to carry your 295 lb dirt bike with your 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. A hitch carrier like the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier, part # UF48-979033 will physically fit in a trailer hitch for your vehicle. However, I took a look at the owner's manual for your Crosstrek and found that the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle is 200 lbs, so I cannot recommend going this route as this would exceed your vehicle's limitations. The tongue weight is the weight that is pushing...

  • Flat Towing a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Behind an RV and Carrying a Motorcycle at the Same Time
  • Yes, you could use the dual receiver # RM-077-4 to flat tow your 2017 Jeep Wrangler and carry a small motorcycle at the same time provided that the combined tongue weight of everything in the adapter does not exceed its 400 pound tongue weight capacity. Like you said the Jeep will produce almost no tongue weight because it is basically supporting itself. There is only one motorcycle carrier that can be used at the back of an RV and it is Ultra-Fab carrier # UF48-979033. The carrier...

  • Carrier Recommendation for Rear of 5th Wheel for Carrying Scooter
  • The Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier part # CC-100 is approved for use behind an RV like what you have but the Curt you mentioned would not be rated for the rougher ride quality there. This also has a 500 lb capacity. The Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches part # UF48-979033 is the only RV approved motorcycle carrier we offer so this would be the best way to transport your scooter as it has a ramp to make loading/unloading a bit easier. For a hitch lock that also takes out the...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Chevy Equinox for Carrying Motorcycle Carrier
  • For your 2016 Chevy Equinox we do have a hitch that would be rated high enough to carry a motorcycle and carrier. The Draw Tite hitch part # 76028 is a fit for your vehicle and has a 675 lb tongue weight capacity. Then for a motorcycle carrier the part # UF48-979033 would be a great option. It has a 500 lb capacity. I attached a review video for more info as well. You would need to verify that your vehicle has the tongue weight capacity for the carrier as well. That info will be in...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Motorcycle Carrier for 2012 Honda Odyssey
  • For your 2012 Honda Odyssey EX, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75270. This hitch is rated for up to 675 lbs tongue weight. I then recommend using the J-Pin Stabilization pin and lock # 63201 along with the Ultra-Fab Dirt Bike Carrier # UF48-979033. I also recommend the Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Straps w/ Web Clamps and S-Hooks - 1-1/4" x 12' - 667 lbs - Qty 2 # EM31353 to secure your dirt bike to the carrier. I also recommend...

  • Best Hitch Recommendation for a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter 2500
  • Between the three hitches available for your 2013 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 with a step bumper you really aren't going to get much of a difference. I would recommend the Curt # 13358 just because it's priced the best. Aside from that you would see no difference between it and the other hitches. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For a motorcycle carrier you could use the # UF48-979033 if you are in the market for one. I attached a review video for this carrier as well.

  • Recommended Hitch-Mount Motorcycle Carrier for Use on Class A Motorhome
  • We do offer one motorcycle carrier that is properly rated for use in the 2-inch hitch on your Class A rig, Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier # UF48-979033. This ramped carrier offers a 500-lb capacity. You will need to confirm the tongue weight (TW) capacity of your hitch to ensure it is rated high enough for the combined weight of your motorcycle and the 48-lb Ultra-Fab carrier. Their combined weight cannot exceed the hitch's capacity. You'll also need tie-down straps to secure the bike...

  • Recommended Front Hitch and Motorcycle Carrier for 2018 Ford F-350
  • Starting with the front hitch for your 2018 Ford F-350 I recommend the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 65076. This is confirmed to fit your truck and will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening and a 500 pound vertical load limit. Just note that the plastic air deflector/fascia will need to be removed for installation. It can just be left off once finished or you can trim it and reattach it with the hitch installed. I have attached the written installation instructions...

  • RV Approved Motorcycle Carrier for Rear of 2018 Winnebago 27RLTS
  • The Ultra Fab motorcycle carrier part # UF48-979033 that you referenced is the only carrier we offer that is approved for use at the rear of an RV like yours where the ride quality is a bit rougher. This weighs a total of 53 lb so in combination with the weight of your Grom you'd be at a total of 282 lbs which is under the capacity of your hitch so you'd be good.

  • Solution for Draw-tite Front Mount Hitch Not Fitting With Slight Gap
  • Sometimes hitches can get slightly bent during shipping and this can be fixed by bending the hitch back into place as long as the hitch only has a slight bend to it. If yours isn't lining up I can almost guarantee that is what happened. Some people will use open steps for leverage, vices and even car jacks to apply controlled force to bend the hitch back. In your case you could start all of the bolts and then torque them all down to allow the hitch to bend back into place. You will...

  • Can Motorcycle Carrier be Used on 2016 Audi Q5 TDI
  • You may be able to carry your motorcycle with a hitch-mounted rack on your 2016 Audi Q5 without issue. I recommend taking a look at the owner's manual for the Audi to see if it lists a specific tongue weight capacity for the vehicle. As long as it is higher than the combined weight of your bike and carrier, you are good to go. Typically a vehicle's tongue weight limit will be 10 percent of its trailer towing capacity. This would come out to 440 pounds using the 4,400 pound towing capacity...

  • Motorcycle Carrier Recommendation for the Back of a Class A Motorhome
  • RVs and motorhomes have a very long distance between the rear axle of the vehicle and the back of the vehicle. Because of this bumps in the road are greatly exaggerated back there. So anything mounted on the hitch will experience a much harsher ride. To the point certain hitch accessories just aren't rated for it. There is a solution for you though. The Ultra Fab motorcycle carrier part # UF48-979033 is very similar to the # SC2001 and Ultra Fab has assured us that this carrier can be...
