Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at etrailer.com.

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

  • Comparing 8" Long Yates Keel Rollers for Boat Trailer
The difference between the Yates Keel Roller for Boat Trailers # YR8244-105EC and # YR8000 is that the former has the middle spacing at about 5/8" while the latter has an increased middle spacing of about 1". I have attached photos of each for you to check out. You just need to make sure that your pin has a 5/8" diameter like part # CE10725A and you can use either one as a replacement.

  • Shaft Solution for 8 inch Long Boat Roller
Hey Mike, at this time we do not have a 1/2 inch diameter shaft to use with the Yates Roller part # YR8302-4P that you mentioned so you have the choice of sourcing one elsewhere or going with the roller part # YR8302-5 instead which uses a 5/8 inch shaft like the part # CE10725A and drilling out the roller mount like you mentioned.

  • Shaft Recommendation for Use with Yates 8 inch Spool Roller
The shaft you would want to use with the 8 inch long spool roller part # YR8302-4P that you referenced is the part # CE10725A which measures 8-7/8 inches in length.

  • Dimensions of Yates Rubber YR8000 Boat Trailer Keel Roller
The Yates Rubber # YR8000 keel roller has a 3-3/8 inch diameter at the ends, a 2-1/4 inch diameter at the flat spot in the center and is 7-3/4 inches long. The roller would use a 5/8 inch diameter shaft such as part # CE10725A and would mount using panel brackets like # CE10303G that would attach to the trailer crossmembers. It sounds like you have a good idea of the set up you need. The keel rollers help guide the boat onto the trailer so that the hull sits straight on the bunks. The...

  • Blue 8" Keel Roller and Replacement Shaft and Nuts.
For the Yates Keel Roller for Boat Trailers - TPR - 8" Long - 5/8" Shaft - Blue use part # YR800B and for the shaft and retainer nuts use the Retainer Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers - Zinc-Plated Steel - 8-7/8" part # CE10725A. This will be exactly what you need to replace a single roller.

  • Replacement 8 Inch an 12 Inch Keel Rollers and Hardware for Boat Trailers
In order to replace the keel rollers I recommend using the Yates Keel Roller for Boat Trailers, part # YR8244-105EC for 8" and part # YR12244-125EC for 12". Then for the roller shaft and pal nuts you can use part # CE10725A for the 8" roller and part # CE10727A for the 12" roller. You may need to trim the roller shafts slightly as needed. These are all for 5/8" diameter holes.

  • Does Yates Keel Roller for Boat Trailers - Super-Heavy-Duty Rubber Have an Inner Steel Tube
The boat trailer rollers like Yates # YR8244-105EC do not have a steel tube on the inside. They do have nylon bushings at either end but the rest of the roller is solid rubber. I have included a link to a video review of the roller for you. For a shaft and pal nuts for this roller use # CE10725A. For a mounting bracket you could use # CE32004G or # CE10303G.

  • Availability of 8 Inch Long Boat Trailer Spool Roller
It is indeed possible to purchase the roller minus the bracket. Yates offers a Spool Roller that's 8 inches long that's designed for a 5/8 inch shaft, part # YR8302-5. If you needed the panel bracket, it's part # CE10303G and part # CE10725A for the 5/8 inch shaft and pal nuts.

  • Options to Replace Calkins Double Roller Assembly on Boat Trailer
We do have similar replacement keel rollers to what you currently have, such as the Yates # YR800B, however we don't have any double roller brackets like your existing Calkins model. Since they are no longer in business your only option is likely to replace them with an entirely new setup. This particular Yates unit measures 7-3/4 inches long and is designed for use with a 5/8 inch shaft like # CE10725A. You may be able to connect this directly to the 2-hole bracket on your trailer or...

  • Recommended Roller Shaft for Boat Trailer 7 Inch Long x 3/4 Inch Diameter
It sounds like you are looking for a keel roller shaft and if that is the case I have just what you need in the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers part # CE10725A which measures 8-7/8" long x 5/8" diameter. The length can be trimmed down to the 7" you need but I am pretty sure you want a 5/8" diameter as that is pretty standard for keel rollers. If you have wobble rollers which do indeed take a 3/4" diameter shaft then we unfortunately do not have what you are looking...

  • 7-3/8 and 11-3/8 Inch Keel Rollers for a Caulkins Boat Trailer
There are some common size rollers found on boat trailers but really they can be just about any size. Roller # YR8000 has an overall length of 7-3/4 inches so it would fit in the 7-7/8 inch spacing. It fits on a 5/8 inch diameter shaft # CE10725A. Roller # YR12000 is actually 11-3/4 inches long and so it would fit the 11-7/8 spacing of your brackets. It also fits a 5/8 inch diameter shaft # CE10727A. I have linked video reviews of both rollers for you.
