Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts Review

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

8-7/8" Long x 5/8" diameter steel shaft for 8" rollers replaces a worn-out roller shaft on your boat trailer. Includes 2 pal nuts for mounting.

Quick replies to questions and excellent customer service overall.

I needed new rollers for Hobie Cat 16. We live on the Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron) and built a frame to put the boat on because of the changes in water level.
I found eTrailer products on line and they had everything I needed. Their prices are the best and delivery was great too. The new rollers and shafts are heavy duty with a inner steel tube. They should last a long time.

Rusty D.

Product is great and working fine. Also had great service on this product.

So far the products are working fine.

I think I need to tell the BBB and let them and everyone else know how they treat their costumer's! The Lady that I was talking to "Stacy" was a great help, until I was disconnected. Then this RUDE male person who wouldn't tell me his name and didn't even try to me! What would you think

Solid product, and well priced. This is qreat company with which to do business.

Always impressed when I order

I needed a few pieces for my old, rusty trailer that holds my old but still functioning Hobiecat. I had purchased new tires last year from and the service and price were both outstanding. This year when I pulled the boat out of the water a roller assembly collapsed due to the rust, and I new exactly where to go to fix!

As expected, they had the parts I needed for a great price. A new roller and assembly was easy to find on the website, and all of the necessary parts were suggested once I put the first part in my cart. Even though it was a Sunday, 2 employees separately emailed me that day that the order had been completed and shipped. The package arrived quickly and I installed the parts with no issues.

Perfect fit and works great.

Everything was as described and delivered in a timely manner.
Will definitely do business again in the future.

Really fast shipping. Great company to buy from and good quality products. U need to try them and c for yourself.

We are updating our boat trailer and ordered new keel rollers and roller shafts from etrailer. I was very pleased with the high quality products, speedy shipping and fair pricing.

the keel roller was the right size and fit great the roller shaft worked but i should have ordered a longer one, since i have 2 small rollers on the end of the 8 inch keel roller.made it work so no worries...thanks for quick delivery and great service.....Rusty

Website easy to navigate, found several choices on every item i needed. Good pricing, Free shipping on my order. Fast delivery. Installed all new rollers on my trailer new roller pins made it fast and easy

My trailer parts order was filled quickly and the price was the best I could find. I called the customer service line for clarification what parts I needed and the representative was great. She corrected the order that I was about to pull the trigger on for the proper matching parts. She saved me from the hassle of a return process and a lot of irritation.

Great customer service! My order arrived quickly, packaging was perfect and all of the trailer parts were exactly as described. Thanks etrailer!

Carla M. worked with me to make sure we had all the right parts for my boat trailer. I am quite happy with her help.

Trimmed to fit length of older roller bracket. Bright steel color remained same through cut, so not sure about galvanizing. Pal nuts on existing bracket on trailer are 2-person job.

Great replacement parts for my boat trailer. Extremely easy to install and does the job...great price no regrets..

Really fast shipping. Rollers installed within 2 hours of receiving. Exactly what I expected to get. A lot harder getting old rollers removed then installing new ones.

Easy to install, and makes a huge difference what trailering and loading. Fast shipping.

It took a while to get them, but I have received them and they are exactly what I ordered

The ordering process was very easy and the parts arrived on time. I got excited that my boat was in the water and I forgot to take a picture when we installed the pats in 15 minutes at the marina.

Could have been another 3/8" to 1/2" longer to allow for washers installed.

fit perfect just what my boat trailer n eeded

Satisfied with all the products will recomend to others to shop your site. For shaft, boat rollers

Very excellent service. Parts look very well made, will know more when I install.

  • Recommended Roller Shaft for Boat Trailer 7 Inch Long x 3/4 Inch Diameter
It sounds like you are looking for a keel roller shaft and if that is the case I have just what you need in the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers part # CE10725A which measures 8-7/8" long x 5/8" diameter. The length can be trimmed down to the 7" you need but I am pretty sure you want a 5/8" diameter as that is pretty standard for keel rollers. If you have wobble rollers which do indeed take a 3/4" diameter shaft then we unfortunately do not have what you are looking...

  • Shaft and Pal Nuts to Mount Yates Rubber 8 Inch Keel Roller YR800B
If you already have a shaft and other hardware for keel roller # YR800B then you do not have to replace them unless they are damaged or corroded. You will want the shaft to run the entire length of the roller for support. A bolt would only work if it was the entire length of the roller and then it would basically be a shaft. You can obtain the parts locally if you wanted to. There are no specific parts you have to use with this roller. For a shaft that will fit that also includes the...

  • Roller Shaft and Pal Nuts For a Keel Roller with a 5/8 Inch Inner Shaft Diameter
You are going to need a 5/8 inch diameter shaft and pal nuts. You could use # CE10721A which comes with both. The shaft is 5-1/2 inches long. We also have other lengths that come with pal nuts: # CE10726A for 11-1/8 inches, # CE10725A for 9-1/4 inches, # CE10727A for 13-1/2 inches, or # CE10722A for 6-1/4 inches. • Dimensions of Yates Rubber YR8000 Boat Trailer Keel Roller
The Yates Rubber # YR8000 keel roller has a 3-3/8 inch diameter at the ends, a 2-1/4 inch diameter at the flat spot in the center and is 7-3/4 inches long. The roller would use a 5/8 inch diameter shaft such as part # CE10725A and would mount using panel brackets like # CE10303G that would attach to the trailer crossmembers. It sounds like you have a good idea of the set up you need. The keel rollers help guide the boat onto the trailer so that the hull sits straight on the bunks. The...

  • 7-3/8 and 11-3/8 Inch Keel Rollers for a Caulkins Boat Trailer
There are some common size rollers found on boat trailers but really they can be just about any size. Roller # YR8000 has an overall length of 7-3/4 inches so it would fit in the 7-7/8 inch spacing. It fits on a 5/8 inch diameter shaft # CE10725A. Roller # YR12000 is actually 11-3/4 inches long and so it would fit the 11-7/8 spacing of your brackets. It also fits a 5/8 inch diameter shaft # CE10727A. I have linked video reviews of both rollers for you.
