Video Transcript for CE Smith Boat Trailer Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts Review

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

Snail delivered! Got the box today. Looked like they played soccer with it. My box being the ball. Box was all misshapen and beaten up. Delivery started with UPS then handed over to USPS.

Oh man, I hate to hear that. Please let us know if you have any damage to your items.

Same as always great quality and fast shipping
Thanks etrailer

All 3 items were delivered sooner than expected and seem to be quality items. The roller shaft is a little longer than I needed, but it's not an issue. All in all good service.

etrailer had exactly what I needed! Gentlemen on the phone was very knowledgeable and no problem at all! Very courteous and polite. I will be ordering what I need from these people. I encourage folks to do the same. Products were exact and fast shipping! Fenders perfect, bunk board carpet was a dream to install.?

Perfect fit to repair bent roller, pin and end cap on 2006Tracker pontoon trailer.

Haven't installed it yet but looks exactly what I need

I needed to keep the stern of my pontoon boat from drifting off of the bunks when trailering and this unit had the same rollers as the Tracker factory rollers. The components are made of durable powder coated steel and are working perfectly after one year.

After searching other sites for boat trailer parts I decided to order from etrailer because of the wide selection and prices of their products. I quickly received the roller guides and shaft pins I ordered. The parts fit perfectly and were very easy to install. I will definitely use etrailer for all my trailer needs in the future.

I have a CE Smith trailer boat guide-on for about 15 years, and the top cap nut finally came off from road bouncing. The top roller guide was lost. These items allowed me to repair the guide. was quick to ship the parts with a fast carrier.

Worked exactly as expected

Searched many locations and only had the exact part I needed. Perfect Fit! I have never got a bad product from Thanks

The extra pal nuts I ordered were for 5/8 inch shaft. I needed 1/2 inch. I should have paid more attention to the size. The items I ordered worked well. I just wish I had ordered the 1/2 caps. It just isn't cost effective to send them back and just re-order the others.

Very easy to shop with etrailer. Everything they told me about my order and arrival date was spot on. I will tell my friends. I will be shopping with them again.

Received our purchase within 4 days. Excellent prices and reasonable shipping charges. This was the 2nd time we ordered from etrailer, but will not be our last. We will recommend to all our boating friends.

Rollers manufactured with much quality, very durable and from what I can see, will last for years.

I ordered four rollers and a replacement shaft for my boat trailer and I am very pleased with all of it!!

One of the few companies that treat you as a customer, not just a consumer. Great customer service, delivery time and fair prices. Have and will continue to order form etrailer. Thanks again.

Appears to be of great quality and was delivered quickly.

All items arrived on time. Exactly what I ordered. I will order follow on boat trailer parts later in the season.

The order was complete and I was very satisfied with the items and the shipping cost was very reasonable compaired with another company. I'm glad that my wife researched the net to find a cheaper shipping cost.

Product was exactly as described and worked perfectly for my repair project!! I would recommend this product.

Clear product offering details, understandable interface/selection, Good price, right parts, good fit, great service.

I received exactly what I ordered and having selected three-day shipping, received the order as promised. I would order again without hesitation. Prices are reasonable and the products are of excellent quality.

  • How to Install Pal Nuts on a Roller Shaft
The easiest way to install pal nuts on a roller shaft is to completely assemble everything (roller, brackets, roller shaft, etc...) before mounting it on the trailer. Place one pal nut on the ground, open end up, and place the roller shaft on the pal nut. Next, with everything assembled on the shaft, put the other pal nut on the other end of the shaft and use a hammer to tap the top pal nut onto the shaft. While you are tapping on the top pal nut, the roller shaft will seat into the pal...

  • What Is the Shaft Tube Inside CE Smith Boat Trailer Roller CE29560 Made Of
The inner piece of CE Smith roller # CE29560 is nylon. These pieces are usually just in a few inches at the ends of rollers for extra support and don't go through the hole length of the roller. For a shaft for this roller you can use # CE10705A which is zinc-plated steel.

  • What Do Keel Rollers Fit Onto on Boat Trailer
Keel rollers like the part # CE10403G that you referenced fit on a shaft that has pal nuts on either end of it. The part # CE10705A is an example of a shaft with the pal nuts. This is a shaft that is 12-3/4 inches long and 1/2 inch in diameter. Pal nuts basically are a friction fit that get tapped onto the end of the shaft.

  • Is There a Bushing Inside the Yates Side Guide Roller for Boat Trailers # YR12243-4P
The plastic bushing that is on the inside of the Yates Side Guide Roller for Boat Trailers # YR12243-4P is attached to the rest of the roller and does not spin independently of the roller. As long as you use the correct size shaft with this roller (1/2 inch like # CE10705A), this would work well for you.

  • Correct Roller Shaft for CE Smith Side Guide Roller for Boat Trailers
The reason that you are having difficulty finding a roller shaft for the CE Smith Side Guide Roller # CE29562 is because it is the replacement middle roller for the CE Smith Roller-Style Guide-Ons # CE27610. For this application you would use something like the 12-3/4" x 1/2" # CE10705A because there needs to be some extra length for the end pieces. If you are needing a standard roller then I recommend the Yates Keel Roller # YR10000 which is 10" long and works great with the 11" x 5/8"...
