Video Transcript for Yates Boat Trailer Keel Roller Review

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Yates Replacement Keel Roller. These are available in either a 5/8th inch or half inch inner diameter. You want to make sure you get the appropriate one that matches your keel roller rods diameter. And they're also available in two different types of material, either a heavy duty rubber, which is what you see here, and it's going to be black in color. Or in a TPR, which is a thermal plasticized rubber.

That's going to be an extremely hard durable rubber. The TPR is available in either a cream or blue color. All of these are available in various lengths, so you can get the appropriate one to match your particular trailer.Having a properly functioning keel roller is important for the bottom of your boat when you're pulling it up onto your trailer. You want it to be able to easily glide across the roller and give it a nice surface that it can sit on that's going to absorb any road vibrations and impacts that you're going to hit, like potholes and such out there. This rubber is going to absorb a lot of that, so it's not transferred into the hull of your boat. Our customer decided to go with the heavy duty rubber, but one of the nice things about the TPR over the heavy duty rubber is if there's no chance that it could leave any marks on your trailer.

with this one there is a possibility if it shifts left or right or something, and it slides across the rubber, it might leave a little bit of a black mark. You can wipe it off, but it'll be there. With the TPR you don't have to ever worry about that. You're also going to get a similar shape so you can match it up to your old one. That way it helps center your boat and properly matches the hole underneath to keep it centered on your trailer.

And the rubbers nice and grippy, so once you've got it cinched down, it's really going to hold it nice and tight. If you follow along with us, we're going to go ahead and replace this roller. I highly recommend that you replace your keel roller route at the same time, because once you remove the caps on the end, they're usually damaged and you have to replace the caps. And your rollers often gets damaged from corrosion and rolling around and everything else out there, so we can have an updated to have it nice and smooth like this here. And he can see a keel roller on a small fishing boat here, and you can see that the boat is rested on top of this. And again, that's real important for the hull of your boat. It's going to absorb a lot of that road impact.

Now this one here is pretty wore out. You can see all the stress cracks in it. So it looks like this one's ready for replacement as well, so we'll be heading here next.Start by removing our rollers nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off there. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. And you can see here before we slide our roller on it's constructed of a heavy duty rubber and inserted into each end we have bushings, so that way it can easily glide and roll when it contacts against the metal service here. Because the rubber would want to grab, its got a more grab type property. It's not slick, kind of like the tires on your road. This is a nice slick composite type material that's easily going to let it slide. We've got our shaft here, and I find it easier to get one cap on first, so we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there, because if you're just not going to be able to pull it off.Now we can just take our roller, we're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got just barely started we're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins, and it's nice and solid. It's not going anywhere. And that completes our look at Yates Replacement Keel Rollers.

Far superior product compared to what was on there (old 19 year-old rubber rollers). To do my ShoreLand'r trailer, I hooked up the trailer to my pickup, chocked the wheels, jacked up the front end of the boat while keeping the winch line hooked up, and dropped the roller assembly after removing on hog pin. Simply remove the hog pins, remove the old roller, install the new roller, and reinstall hog pin (or Pal Nut if desired). Thanks etrailer.com!

When I received this roller it had a big glob of material (see attached photo) blocking the shaft hole. It took me quite a long time to get this material removed. When asked to do a review I mentioned this problem and just got a "sorry you had a problem" response. Otherwise the roller was easy to install (after getting this glob of material removed) and seems to be holding up very well.

This product has done its job. My old black rubber ones cracked over time and were falling apart. Hopefully this one will last longer. My trailer isn’t exposed to the elements as it is kept under cover. So far I am very pleased with its performance. etrailer has a variety of parts for my various trailer needs and I would recommend etrailer for your trailer parts.

Comments
The rollers I purchased are still holding up well hopefully they will continue to hold up longer than the old black rubber ones in had previously.

After one year the roller is holding up great. I don't see any wear on it. No more black roller marks on my boat.

Comments
After a year both rollers are holding up well. No more black marks on the hull.

Very good, just what I needed. I would suggest that anyone replacing their trailer rollers, go ahead and spend the extra $ to replace the roller shafts; I wish I had. I saved over $40 by purchasing this product, and so far I am thoroughly pleased . I plan to pass the word around to those who have older and saltwater trailers. Boat practically loads itself now, and no more black streaks on the gel coat.

Comments
I USE MY BOAT SPARINGLY, BUT EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE ROLLERS WHICH I MENTIONED LAST YEAR, CONTINUES TO APPLY. AGAIN, GO AHEAD AND PURCHASE THE SHAFTS AND CAPS AS WELL, THEY ARE LIKELY VERY RUSTED OR WARPED, ETC. THIS ACTION SHOULD ALLOW YOU TO FOCUS ON OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BOAT OR TRAILER WHICH NEED ATTENTION, THE ROLLERS ARE GOOD TO GO!

I have had these keel rollers installed for ten weeks now, and 48 launches later, they are far superior to the rubber rollers that came with the trailer. These rollers are harder than the rubber ones and the boat basically self-launches with a little nudge. Most of the lakes I fish have a very shallow-water access so I am essentially dry-loading my 16' Lund and 25-horse 4-stroke, the weight of which is punishing to a keel roller. So far, they have been outstanding.

have it installed but have not used the trailer yet so can't comment on the roller yet, but I'm sure like everything I get from ertraier it will be just fine.

Comments
As I said in my first review I had not used the boat since installing the roller on my trailer. For the first time after many, many purchases from e-trailer I have to give these rollers a bad review. They lasted through only 3 launches of my boat before deteriorating completely. Not only did they develop flat spots but material started to peal off the rollers. One caveat, my boat is an older Boston Whaler that MUST have 100 of the hull weight on the center rollers and I also have a tilt-bed trailer that puts tremendous strain on the rollers. The trailer never goes in the water, just the bottom of the tires get wet. The boat is winched onto the trailer power winch of course so both the launch and especially the retrieve puts strain on the rollers. In all fairness I think these rollers are more than adequate for most boaters but turned out to be totally wrong for my use. After trashing these rollers I put a complete set of Stoltz rollers that have showed no sign of wear after almost a year of use. I still will go to e-trailer for any and all my needs for my trailer, car etc. despite my dissatisfaction with this particular purchase

I’ll start be giving a huge AWESOME JOB TO THE STAFF, for the great service. I ordered the Yates keel and bow rollers to replace all the old black rubber on a stainless steel Boston Whaler trailer that I built for a friend about 18 years ago. The local suppliers didn’t have everything I needed in one place. So I checked online and found etrailer.com and ordered keel rollers, end caps, bow roller with bell ends. Confirmed the order about 3-4 in the morning Hawaii time and learned the order was shipped less that five hours latter. And the box was sitting outside my door two days later. Damn that’s fast, especially to Hawaii. Being a first time buyer , that’s one hell of a first impression. With pricing and shipping can’t be beat. Very much appreciated. GREAT JOB PEOPLE!!!!! Oh yeah, Im supposed to review the product too. Well, Yates TPR rollers good product, good price and exceptional service!!! Mahalo and God Bless, George D.

Seems to work as hoped. Harder and more durable than the black rubber type I had on trailer. Boat keel doesn't dig in so it actually rolls for better loading and unloading. Should hold up longer before it needs replacing.

- YR800Y
by:

Best boat rollers I have ever had on my trailer. The old rubber ones would crush from the weight making launching and loading difficult and only lasted a couple of years. With these rollers the boat is easy to launch and load. Not showing any signs of crushing after a year with the boat sitting on them. Martin

by:

I am very pleased with the rollers and hubs that I purchased. They were easy to install on the trailer and have worked well for the past year.

- YR800Y
by:

This roller is made cheap. The diameter inside the roller is about 1.25". The nylon bushings are less than 3/4" deep on each end and are not solid. This clearance will cause the roller to collapse in the center under heavy load because of the clearance between the roller and the axle shaft. I am very disappointed. If it were not for the return shipping cost, I would send them back.

- YR800Y
by:

TPR rollers are suppose to be a very good roller. Seems to be high quality. Just put it on my boat trailer, so I will have and wait to see how it stands up to the rubber ones. Well write another review at a later date on how it holds up.

Just received my order but haven't had time to install anything yet. Bought a different boat and rebuilding the trailer. Have had nothing but good service from etrailer. Quick service and quality products will not be shopping for these type of parts any place else. Couldn't be happier with service received.

Quick and simple, we will see how they do as far as durability. Hopefully they outlast the standard rubber rollers!

At my age (69) I need all the help I can get when loading and unloading my 18' fishing boat. This centering roller has performed exactly as advertised. Centering the keel and helps keeps the boat moving easily on and off the trailer. Good, solid roller.

- YR800Y

Product is as advertised; arrived on time with no issues. Tech support was prompt to answer my question about shaft end cap installation; very helpful. My only miss was that I did not measure all keel rollers, as one is wider then the other three. Would have been ideal, if this was suggested by eTrailer, but then that would be a stretch.

- YR800Y

your products are always top of the line as well as the best prices anywhere. you seem to get the product shipped faster than anyone ! also any questions asked are answard in ample time and to the fullist, thanks.

Got 2 to replace cracked black rubber keel rollers and they worked great, boat rolls off and on easier. They were shipped fast and were exactly as described.

- YR800Y

Heavy duty all the way. Great price.

- YR800Y

Great transaction. They shipped what I ordered promptly, well packaged and a quality product. Well done. Thanks!

- YR800Y

The roller is installed and works well. It was slightly shorter than the original equipment, but that was indicated in the details. It's harder than the original and this makes the keel strip slip to the center better.

Easy online ordering from my smart phone, fast delivery and much easier unloading and loading of my boat. One of the best purchases that I made in a long time. Thank you.

I purchased these to replace my rubber rollers that were always cracking. So far, I am impressed with these sturdy rollers.

  • Replacement Keel Roller Only or Keel Roller with Mounting Bracket
If your bracket is in good shape, not bent up or corroded then it is perfectly fine to replace just the roller with one of the same size. If you do need or want to also replace the bracket I recommend # CE10453G which is already assembled and ready for install. • What Secures the Yates Keel Roller part # YR800Y to the Roller and Bracket
If you have a Yates Keel Roller part # YR800Y, the bracket it installs onto, and a roller but no way to secure it all together you are only missing pal nuts. For that you would want the part # 408600. To attach a pal nut (part # CE10801) to the end of a roller shaft, you would simply tap it into place with a hammer or mallet. The easiest way to do this is fully assemble the roller, shaft and bracket before installing it on the trailer. Place the pal nut on the floor, open end...
