Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Fixed Ball Mount - D-26 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number D-26. This is the CURT Ball Mount with the extra long shank. This is ball mount is designed to work with the 2" x 2" receiver-style hitch. You can see here on the back side that we have a nice hollow shank. This is rated for up to 7,500 pounds of gross trailer weight and 750 pounds of maximum tongue weight. When choosing the hitch ball, you want to make sure that the shank of that hitch ball does not exceed the ball hole diameter, which for this mount is going to measure right at 1". Has a nice finish on it so it is going to be protected from rust and corrosion.

Couple measurements to go over real quick. The distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the center of our ball hole is going to measure about 12 5/8" long. That's the distance that we have between the two. The distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the closest point of the edge here of the ball platform is going to measure about 8 1/2". Distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the back of the shank is going to measure about 2 1/2".

The overall length of this mount is going to measure right at 17". It's a really simple installation. You can just take the ball mount and slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch, line up your pinholes, and then insert a hitch pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. These items are sold separately and you can refer to the ball mount's product page under related items to view those products, or go to our website and type in part number PC3 and it will refer you to the standard 5/8" pin that comes with the clip. With the ball mount in this position, it's going to give us a drop of right at 2". That's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube to the ball platform. We can also use this ball mount in the rise position simply by flipping it over.

In the rise position it's going to give us a rise of 3/4". Here up front our drawbar thickness is going to measure about 7/8" and it's going to measure about 2 1/2" in width. That's going to complete today's review of part number D-26. This is the CURT Ball Mount with an extra long shank. .

I was having trouble finding the proper ball mount for my Range Rover as many ball mounts are too short. After speaking with the folks at etrailer and viewing a couple of the online videos, I was able to pick from the vast inventory on hand. Boom, a couple days later, it was on my doorstep!! Thank you, it fits and looks perfect. p.s. made in America!!! 563039

Bought a new truck and never thought my ball mount off old truck would be an issue. Sure enough, let my tailgate down and it hit the top of my wind jack to my trailer. Went to u-haul,tractor supply and walmart. None had the solution to my problem. Started a Web search and came across etrailer. Found exactly what I needed and at a great price! Not to mention super fast shipping. I ordered on a Monday evening and received it on Thursday. That was standard shipping too. Thanks etrailer. Will order from you for any of my trailer needs. Item d-26. 3/4 rise or 2"drop. Extra long. I use the 2" drop for my truck and trailer. 351033

The tailgate on my 2016 Ram is longer than my previous truck which caused it I hit the tongue jack on my trailers. This longer shank bar solved my problem and eTrailer.com had exactly what I was looking for. Great products, prices and customer service. 597473

Love the extra long hitch receiver. Works great except it is about 1/2 inch too short. The truck tailgate hits the camper electric box on the jack when the tailgate is coming down. I think this more a flaw of the camper company having the jack too far forward not letting the tailgate freely go open and closing . I think this is the longest receiver that is made. The trailer pulls straight and true. 736337

  • Solution for Tailgate That is Hitting A-Frame Jack
While your frustration is understandable and we have a solution for you, I wouldn't be able to tell you with absolute certainty that using the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3755 will stop your tailgate from hitting the jack. The reason is, A-frame jacks like these mount to a specific place on your trailer and if your tailgate comes down at that point, they will hit. What you can do instead is use a side-frame mount jack like the Fulton Marine Jack # HD50000101 or you...

  • Recommended Ball Mount for 2018 Subaru Outback with Draw-Tite Hitch
Your hitch pin hole on your hitch receiver # 75673 is about 5 inches from the outer part of your bumper. The Curt Ball Mount # D-26 you mentioned measures 12-5/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the center of the hitch ball, so that would be overkill. I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500 lbs # 989900 which will have a measurement of 8-1/2 inches from center of pin to center of hitch ball or 9 inches depending on which draw bar is used. • Is It Safe to Invert the Malone Dual Receiver Adapter for Towing?
It is not recommended to invert the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 for towing purposes. The extended receiver is only intended for accessory use not for a ball mount and trailer connection. Your trailer hitch's tongue weight will also be reduced by 50% when you use your bike rack in this adapter, so you will want to account for that as well. My recommendation is to use a longer ball mount like the # D-26 to give you that extra length you desire.

The Blue Ox Hitch Extender for Tow Bars part # BX88264 is not rated for trailer towing, only flat-towing. That said, I have a better option for you which is to use a longer ball mount. The Curt Extra Long Ball Mount part # D-26 for example has a 7,500 lb weight capacity, offers a 2" drop, and is 12-5/8" long. If you can let me know how much drop you need I can make a better recommendation for you otherwise you can look through the list below if the above will not work.

  • Short A-Frame Trailer Jack to Avoid Interference with Lowered Tailgate on Toyota Tacoma
The shortest A-frame jack we have available is the Bulldog Round # BD155032, which measures just a tad over 10 inches from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack. We do not have an A-frame jack that measures 8 or fewer inches from the bracket to the top of the unit. Another possible solution to avoid interference between your Tacoma's tailgate and jack is to simply use a longer ball mount to move the trailer further back from the truck when hooked up. For this, you are going to want to use a ball mount with an extended shank. We have a few options for this but will be dependent on the amount of rise/drop you need to keep the trailer level. The motor housing on the etrailer.com Electric Jack # EJ-3520-BBX can't by itself be rotated but you could certainly spin the entire jack around on the trailer since the mounting holes are asymmetric. This should hopefully give you the needed clearance to drop your Ram's tailgate. A hitch extender will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch. Instead, I suggest using a long ball mount like # D-26. This ball mount is 12-5/8 inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. If you need longer than that let me know the distance you need and I'll find one that will work. Also, if you need a rise or drop in the ball mount.
