Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the CURT ball mount. When it comes to ball mounts you just wanna make sure one, that it's gonna fit your hitch receiver. But this one it's gonna be for a two inch hitch receiver. If I we're to flip this around, just like this, so we can have, a three quarter inch rise, or we can have a two inch drop. So it's not really a massive, massive drop and rise combo but with my Tahoe, it's kind of at the basic ride height of a pickup truck. So with this, I don't really need a whole lot.
Sometimes I need a little bit down. Sometimes I need a little bit up. So this would be kind of in the middle. What really sets this one apart, is the length of it. So sometimes you have like toolboxes and stuff like that on your trailers.
So with this one, we're gonna have a little bit longer shank to keep it a little bit farther away from your vehicle. From the center of our hitch pin hole, to the center of the ball, it's gonna be about 12 and five eighths of an inch. And then from the center of the hitch pin hole to this little start of the mounting plate is about eight and a half inches. The capacities for this specific ball mount are gonna be about 750 pounds of tongue weight, and 7,500 pounds of gross trailer weight. So this isn't gonna come with every single thing that you need to be able to tow what you want.
One, we're gonna need a trailer ball. So just grab whatever size is best for you. I would definitely match it up to at least this capacity. So we're not really limiting ourselves. But one thing to keep in mind, the thickness of this plate is gonna be set an eighth of an inch thick.
It's made of steel powder-coated finish. It's not gonna rust away, but also the circle in the middle, it's gonna have a diameter of one inch. So that is the information you're gonna have to use on our website to filter through all the trailer balls that we have. And that's gonna help you pick out which one's gonna fit and work well with you. Another thing is the pin and clip. It doesn't come with the pin and clip. The diameter of the hole is five, eighth of an inch. I would recommend grabbing a five, eighth inch pin just because it doesn't really have a whole lot of play. So it's gonna be nice and strong. But another thing I would recommend if you're gonna get a pin and clip, if you don't already have one, might as well get one that locks, because one, two, three seconds, someone could steal this from you. So, grab a locking hitch pin and clip just because, someone can run off with it in literally three seconds, and we don't want that to happen. So we have locks as well. Another thing is, we do have a hollow shank, so there's gonna be a great one for an anti-rattle device. So you can have one that kind of slides in there and it's gonna have threads in it. And then, it's going to silence all the rattling. So as of right now, this is what it's gonna sound like. That's just a lot, since it has a hollow shank we can stabilize that, and I would definitely recommend it. I mow a lot of grass, and I usually have the windows down and I can hear this throughout the whole entire ride, super annoying, so I got an anti-rattle bolt for mine. So I recommend you do it too. When it comes to ball mounts, this is pretty much your bare bones ball mount, as long as it is just gonna be able to hold the weight that you want. And it keeps your trailer level with the rise and the drop. That's pretty much all you really need to do. If you we're to upgrade from this and you need around the same rise and drop, we do have a Gen-Y glider ball mount that's my favorite, just because it has shock absorbing technology. So it's not just gonna be rigid like this. So I would say that would be an upgrade, but it is quite a big upgrade. But this is gonna get the job done. And that's pretty much it for our look at the CURT trailer ball mount..

This was the perfect hitch length for my F-150 allowing me to open tailgate all the way down without having to unhitch trailer. Wouldn’t watch to go any longer though.
I bought this Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount because of its longer length. This would position my boat far enough away from the back hatch of my car, that I can open the hatch without fear of hitting my boat. It has worked exactly as I hoped, and would highly recommend this item, and etrailier. I have bought other items from etrailer and have never been disappointed in the items or customer service.
The D-26 is just the right length for my 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The 32in spare tire doesn't get in the way of the hitch even with 3/4" rise. yay
Great exactly what I ordered. Fast delivery!!
Now I can open my tailgate without hitting the jack.
Good quality product that gets hitch ball/trailer coupler a few inches further away from rear bumper of new NISSAN ROGUE.
Perfect! Gave me about 4" extra length so my trailer Jack was away from my trailer.
Recently bought a Kubota RTV x900. The receiver is located under the bed. With the extra long ball hitch drawbar I can easily get to the drawbar and use a clevis to hitch my 5ft. wide mower or attach a ball and use the trailer. The pictures will illustrate the length of the drawbar which makes access very easy. The product is heavy duty and well made. Ordered this product on Thursday morning and it was delivered the next day, Friday afternoon. Customer service was helpful, will use etrailer again. Thanks
Worked fine for my van because I mounted a used hitch not for my year's van and needed a longer plug.
It's working out just fine. I pull my travel trailer with it.
My original hitch placed the trailer and boat too close to my truck, and I learned the hard way that a slight jackknife ( was no issue with my SUV) while backing could result in a cracked taillight or damage to the rear quarter panel. Fortunately, I just cracked the twilight lens and replacement was only $120.
This hitch extends the boat an additional 5” from where the original was. Of course if you jackknife too far you could still do damage, but that is true with any trailer. This extended hitch gives much more flexibility in turn radius when backing. Also really like the 750 lb tongue weight rating….most other extended hitches were rated for less than 400 lbs.
Great Hitch, has given top perforance now for the first year of use
Well manufactured and perfect fit
Always satisfied with my purchases at etrailer, this one was no different. The extra long ball mount easily clears the oversized spare on my Jeep. Great price and quick shipping!
One of the down sides of owning a jeep is the spare tire is in the way for pulling trailers. This hitch is just long enough to get past the spare tire without having too much sticking out. Very well made and still looks like new after 1 year.
The extra length of this ball mount makes the trailer coupler more accessible.
Great product for getting out past the tire carrier on a small SUV. Customer service was wonderful with great follow through and any assistance I needed I will definitely use etrailer agin
Love the extra long hitch receiver. Works great except it is about 1/2 inch too short. The truck tailgate hits the camper electric box on the jack when the tailgate is coming down. I think this more a flaw of the camper company having the jack too far forward not letting the tailgate freely go open and closing . I think this is the longest receiver that is made. The trailer pulls straight and true.
here are pics of ball mount I purchased installed on son's Jeep
The extra long ball mount was exactly what I needed for my Jeep. The added length clears my spare tire and gives me the extra turning radius I need for backing my camper into tight spots!
Worked out great. Now I can open my tailgate without it hitting the trailer jack!!!
2007 Toyota Rav4 owner. I needed this to reach out beyond my spare tire, works perfectly and no clanging or unnecessary movement.
Bought a new truck and never thought my ball mount off old truck would be an issue. Sure enough, let my tailgate down and it hit the top of my wind jack to my trailer. Went to u-haul,tractor supply and walmart. None had the solution to my problem. Started a Web search and came across etrailer. Found exactly what I needed and at a great price! Not to mention super fast shipping. I ordered on a Monday evening and received it on Thursday. That was standard shipping too. Thanks etrailer. Will order from you for any of my trailer needs. Item d-26. 3/4 rise or 2"drop. Extra long. I use the 2" drop for my truck and trailer.
The ball mount does what it is designed to do. It extends out enough to clear my oversized spare tire creating room to connect my pop up trailer to my Jeep with ample distance between the coupler and my spare tire. The 3/4" rise lifts up, and levels out my trailer, which until now, lacked sufficient ground clearance, and makes it safer to tow. This inexpensive purchase saved me a few hundred dollars by not having to purchase a new bumper and tire mount to relocate my spare tire. It's a quality product, and I would recommend it to anyone experiencing similar issues.
Has worked well. Extra length has given me the ability to leave my tailgate open while backing the boat trailer in the water. With the tail gait up, you can’t see the empty trailer when retrieving the boat. This has solved that issue well. And with the extra length, it’s still rated the same weight limit as the regular size.
Works great on my jeep. Was tight fit under spare tire without it.
