Question:

I have a 97 F350 dually with 10000 lb Reese hitch. I need at least an 8” extension to to my boat 6000lbs and trailer .1300lb for a total of around 7500lbs. What do you recommend. Trying to stay away from distribution hitch

Hey George, welcome back! To get that high of a capacity out of an extension, you'll need the Gen-Y Hitch Receiver Hitch Extender item # GY89SR. This works with a 2" hitch receiver and extends the hitch pin hole out 14". It has a 10,000 lbs towing capacity.

The issue you're going to run into though is a hitch extender like the item # GY89SR is going to reduce your hitch's towing capacity by 50%. I wouldn't have thought you had an issues with a F-350 but if your Reese hitch only has a 10,000 lbs capacity using any hitch extender will drop it down to 5,000 lbs.

If your F-350's hitch does top out at 10,000 lbs the best solution I have for you is an extended ball mount like item # D-26. It has a 7,500 lbs capacity and fits a 2" receiver. The center of the ball hole is going to be 12-5/8" out from the hitch pin hole.

Does your F-350's hitch only have a 10,000 lbs towing capacity?

@GeorgeN You're welcome! I think the Brophy item # BM20 costs twice as much and only gets you an additional 5/8" of length over the Curt item # D-26. It does have a higher 10,000 lbs capacity over the Curt's 7,500 lbs. I also have the Curt item # C45270. It's 13" long from the hitch pin hole to the center of where the ball mounts. It does top out at 7,500 lbs in capacity though.

@JerredH, So I like your suggestions. The two you mentioned #ca45270 & D-26 have a 7500lb capacity which will work. I see the #BM20 has a 10000lb capacity 1000lb tongue. Which will be an over kill, but in a good way. Yes it is more, but would appear to work if not better. Am I not correct ? Thanks for your time and help.
