If you care about how your vehicle looks when it’s not being towed, this setup keeps things neat. The hidden design leaves no brackets sticking out, and the removable arms twist off in seconds for a clean, factory-style finish. When the arms are off, you can plug the receivers with the included covers to keep dirt and debris out. No bulky metal sticking out means less chance of catching your leg as you walk by.
Getting connected shouldn’t take a wrestling match. Each arm slides into the receiver and locks in place with a simple twist, then secures with the pull pin. To disconnect, just pull the pin, rotate, and remove the arm. It’s a quick and solid setup that works smoothly even when you’re hitching up solo or on uneven ground.
This base plate bolts straight to the chassis—no welding required—and spreads towing forces evenly to help prevent stress on suspension components. The steel frame is powder-coated to resist rust and corrosion through weather, road spray, and long-distance trips. The included mounting hardware keeps everything tight and dependable for thousands of towing miles.
If you already have a tow bar setup you like, this base plate fits right into it. It pairs directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a secure connection. It can also be adapted for use with Roadmaster tow bars using adapter # RM-031 or # RM-031-5, or with Demco tow bars using adapter # DM9523041 (all sold separately). This flexibility makes it easy to reuse existing gear without having to start over.
You don’t need to be a pro mechanic to install this kit. It bolts securely to the vehicle’s chassis using the included mounting hardware—no welding required—and provides integrated mounting points for an electrical connector plug bracket (sold separately). Clear design features make alignment simple, turning this into a manageable weekend project for anyone comfortable with basic tools.

Product fit well. Installation was easy.
Self installed. Instructions are clear but if you're going to install yourself - - read read read you will still go back to the instructions again and again. It's a good days job with a helper for a first timer. That said it's a fun project if you take your time. And you'll save a lot of money..
The average ratings is because the installation instructions weren't detailed enough to understand what to do. There was a lot of "head scratching moments" about what to do. After I finally got it done, it looks great. I don't care to go into more detail.

Same for me. The instructions were really hard to follow. I wouldnt want to do it again. End result was good.
One year of towing my Smart car behind my LTV motorhome. It's doing great! Easy peasy. And little kids think the posts sticking out of the front of the car are machine guns! Haha!
Bolts for blind connection should have ends taper to make nuts easier to install
Was able to install the Baseplate with only a few minor issues. The directions are only average. The fit of the support plates doesn't allow enough clearance for the nut plates, Had to run tap trough some of the whiz nuts etc to clear welding slag. I have installed 5 or 6 baseplates, mostly Roadmasters. For my money they are easier to install and fit better than the Blu OX. E trailer is great, Parts always shipped and arrive on time
The instructions (#23) tell you to align the support bracket 1/4" from the bumper. When we drilled the holes we discovered that a nut could not be installed due too the lack of clearence with the frame rail end. This measurement should be 1/2".
Other than this clearence problem the installation went fine.
Very pleased with the Base Plate.
Excellent quality. I have no doubts about the performance of this product.
There is a disparity concerning the placement of two of the fasteners. The exploded view shows the Whiz nuts positioned to the front (vertically) and the Nut plates positioned to the back (vertically). The instructions show them top and bottom (horizontal).

Thanks to the eagle-eyed review I reached out to Blue Ox who is updating the manual. Thank you for letting us know!
I finally got my unit installed and it looks great. The only down side is Blue-Ox instructions and parts list do not agree. There were enough parts altogether but weld wire nuts were not as many as per instructions and one had to be almost double jointed to put four bolt washer nut combinations together. I also made use of a couple of things from the Roadmaster instructions that seemed a little more understandable for me as compared to the Blue-Ox instructions.

Worked great last summer. Arizona through Alaska and returned. 13000 miles.we were happy campers.
The baseplate arrived on time and well packaged. The instructions were easy and working by myself I was able to complete this in about 8 hours. I was taking my time and also learning the car which is quirky. I selected the Blue Ox due to the light weight tow tabs. My RV at the time had a very light towing capacity. After pulling my Smart Fortwo on a 1600 mile trip I have to say everything worked well and with the car so light @ 1800lbs it did not affect my mileage at all. Thanks etrailer for coming through again and thanks to Rebecca N for all your help.
