BOLT Locks for Convenience and Security

Are you tired of carrying a bulky ring of keys - for your hitch lock and coupler lock, your pickup cover or trailer door, and all the various padlocks securing your equipment? Tired of fumbling for the right key or having to replace a lost key?

BOLT (Breakthrough One-key Lock Technology) has solved that problem by designing a line of locks that can operate with a key you already have handy - your vehicle ignition key.

When you insert your own key into the cylinder, spring-loaded plate tumblers move up and down until they are matched exactly to that key. The first time the key is rotated, the cylinder is uniquely coded to that key. When the key is removed, the cylinder moves into the locked position. When the key is turned again, it will rotate to the unlocked position.

BOLT for Commercial Applications

BOLT is particularly useful in commercial applications. Imagine being able to send a crew without having to sign out multiple keys for a work truck, trailer, hitch pins, and equipment locks. With BOLT, the vehicle key becomes a master key. It opens all those locks and you no longer have the hassle of getting to a work site only to find that you've brought the wrong keys.

Very well-thought out technology... first key used is the only key afterwards. Read the BOLT web site - very cool mechanical process.

Be sure to get the right kind of lock - center-cut (normal) vs side-cut (only one edge has ridges). The BOLT site shows all the key types each lock supports.

Great product. Anything that makes life easier is money well spent.

by:

Got it for fiancee for Christmas and he loves it

by:

I really and pleased with this lock. It couldn't be easier to key. I'm not worried about having my $300 weigh safe hitch disappear now. The lock portion is quite large and is in the area where the safety chain hook connects to my hitch. It could be an issues with large hooks. Overall, I am happy with this lock.

Have had no issues with this lock. Love not having to add an additional key on the keychain for a hitch lock!

by:

Works perfectly. Easy instructions. Super easy to use my ignition key to unlock and lock the unit.
Life just got easier (one less key on my keychain).
I will also use this receiver lock on the front Ecohitch PN 306-X7904 on my 2019 Super Duty 6.2 gas logging truck that I bought from etrailer back in 2023. Both items make my life easier.

Well done etrailer!

Thank you!

by:

This is the third hitch lock I've owned, each for different trucks. Having it keyed the same as my truck makes it extremely convenient and mitigates having to add another key to my keychain. The only downside is having to purchase a new one each time I purchase a new truck, but as often as I install and uninstall my hitch, the cost is well worth it. I know my load is secure, whether from bumps in the road or thieves in the night.

by:

These locks are pricey, but SOOOO WORTH IT!!! I have several BOLT locks for different applications, and it is *SUPER* convenient that all of them unlock with my truck ignition key. I never have to worry what I did with the key for this or that lock, because I obviously have my truck key with me when towing my trailer.

If I ever sell this truck, I will include my locks in the sale, and buy them again for my next truck's key.

Trauma brain injury 11-26-13 and stroke 10-20-2019. It's difficult for me, say the words, Aphasia. Thank you for regard this for a home Ford Transit van vehicle. Something I need to yet, so thank you for what I got.

by:

Solidly built and easy to key to my truck’s sidecut key. Couldn’t be happier with the way this has paired with my new Bulletproof Hitches drop hitch.

by:

Absolutely love this locking pin. Easy to set up and 1 less key to keep track of. Program my truck key to it and I’m not worried about my receiver walking away.

by:

I really like this hitch lock, it is so easy to use and I don’t have to carry extra keys when I want to install or remove my hitch!!!! Money well spent!!!! Also Paula was great help, helping me over the phone making sure I got what I was looking for!!! Thanks,

Easy to set up for my truck key

by:

Over the years I have had a number of receiver locks with the same problem, another key. These keys generally get misplaced and the lock is cut off. The BOLT lock is keyed to my truck key which I always have with me. Easy to program the lock to the key and it has not failed me yet. Recommend this lock.

by:

This item was purchased to replace other locking pins that rusted and bent in the receiver. I have a three inch receiver with a two and a half inch reducer. This lock feels heavier and more solid than others I’ve tried, so I’m hoping it proves more durable. So far it is performing quite well. I really like having it keyed to my ignition. I am looking forward to switching a couple more locks on my truck over to this system.

by:

I’ve used this type of hitch pin/lock on three different trucks. Having it keyed to your ignition key makes it easy, you’ll never lose it.

by:

Thank you I have problems with speech language what's going to happen when I drove a tractor trailer and I had at trauma brain injury it's hard for me to say the words as long as I can drive.

by:

This trailer receiver hitch is excellent. After buying two different locking products from two different brands, that coincidentally had exactly the same key, its very reassurning to know this lock is tied to my ignition key. Very easy to set up, very easy to remove and put back on. All in all a great product. Highly recommended.

by:

Looks like a good product but used it once and the 2nd time my key wouldn't work. they are sending a replacement

by:

Well built product that has better security for my B&W hitch. Was easy to key following provided instructions so now I don’t have to carry a separate key other than my normal truck key. This is a well thought-out design and so far an excellent product.

by:

Looks and feels strong. Quality rubber on lock end and the lock works great with my key. I did add a piece of rubber hose on the non lock end to prevent rattle while on the road and make the whole thing look more complete.
I recommend this hitch lock.

Still works. Just wish the red rubber part did not fade over time. But it works fine and that is what matters most.

I love the Bolt lock that keys to my truck key. However, the angled side of the hitch pin is wearing an angle into the truck's hitch. I need to stop using it so it doesn't ruin my OEM hitch.

Im 7 states away from my tow vehicle at present, so I cant send a picture. The angled end of the lock has worn away the edge of hole on the vehicles OEM hitch receiver. Instead of the hole in the receiver having a hole with a sharp 90 degree corner at the hole, it now has a 45 degree edge to the hole. I am attaching a sketch of a cross section of the hitch receiver that I hope will get the idea across. Im not much of an artist. Because of the wear on the hitch receiver, I am looking to replace the Bolt hitch with one doesnt have the angled section on it.

I have spoken with an installer and they have confirmed with me that when it comes to OEM hitches, the manufacturers will tend to make the sidewalls of the receiver thicker than on aftermarket hitches. Because of this, with you having a 3 inch hitch, it makes sense why there would be some wear on the outside of the hitch. Unfortunately, we do not have any BOLT hitch locks that have a longer span than this lock you ordered [BL7023585]. So, any of the locks that we carry, will not have the same locking mechanism that fits to the ignition key. However, we do have a hitch lock that has a 4 inch span [just slightly bigger than your hitch lock] that is available for purchase.

by:

I like the idea of not having an extra key to keep track of which is why I selected the BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock. However, I am not planning to leave the adjustable ball mount in the truck all the time in the hope that it will be in good enough condition to use in the next truck. So, this receiver lock keyed to the truck will likely stay with the truck when it gets traded.

by:

It's been 1 year; this hitch lock is still working great.

by:

Great product. Works well and seems to hold up even where I live on the coast of Washington. Salt air is brutal on everything here. The only problem with the lock is you have to "remember" the key is the security key in you key fob. Spent 30 minutes looking for the key only to remember it was in the fob.

You can always identify a fellow road warrior that has been “Bolted”! That distinctive red and black locking mechanism labels that vehicle owner. He knows quality and simplicity!
“If you’re not using a Bolt trailer hitch receiver lock on your vehicle, it’s time you step up and make things easier for yourself!”

We do have the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5.5" Rise - 10K - Browning # BWTS10048BB which has a pin hole farthest from mounting block dimension of 5-5/8 inches. Another option with the same depth measurement is the # BWTS10047BB which has a 3 inch drop. These are the only B&W hitches that have the 3-Ball option that will fit your bumper. • Does BOLT Locking Hitch Pin Have Weight Capacity
Hey Douglas, the BOLT hitch locks like the part # BL7023585 do not have a weight capacity or shear rating because they actually don't typically bare the weight of the trailer as the ball mount pins itself into the hitch tube and that's what pulls the trailer. We've sold quite a few of these also and have not had any issues with them shearing off.

  • Does BOLT Trailer Hitch Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # BL7023585 Have Capacity for 10k Trailer
Yes, the BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # BL7023585 that you referenced would be strong enough for towing a 10,000 lb travel trailer like you have. Hitch pins like this don't normally have stated weight capacities as they typically do not carry the weight of the trailer like it might appear. The tongue weight of the trailer typically pushes so hard down in the hitch tube that the friction alone holds the ball mount in place and not the hitch pin.

BOLT does not have a version of their hitch locks that has a straight end. That's interesting that yours is rounding out the hitch pin's hole. There really shouldn't be enough friction between the hitch pin and the hitch pin hole to cause that type of wear.
