Features to know about

Keeps Your Trailer Level: 2" Rise or 4" Drop

Getting the trailer level makes all the difference in how it tows. This ball mount gives you a 2" rise or 4" drop so you can dial in the right height for your setup. The result is a straighter, smoother pull that keeps your trailer steady and your load balanced on the road.

Gives You More Room to Work: 13" Long Shank

Sometimes you just need a little extra space between the truck and trailer. The long 13" shank on this mount helps with clearance for tailgates, jacks, or accessories that sit close to the coupler. It’s a simple way to make hitching up easier while keeping everything connected solidly.

Handles Real-World Loads: 7,500 lbs GTW, 750 lbs Tongue Weight

When you’re pulling heavier gear like a small camper or boat, strength matters. This solid steel mount is rated for 7,500 lbs gross towing weight and 750 lbs tongue weight. It’s built for dependable towing performance without flexing under load, so you can focus on the drive instead of worrying about the hitch.

Built to Last: Steel Construction with Gloss Black Powder Coat

Road spray, salt, and weather can take a toll on towing gear fast. The sturdy steel construction and corrosion-resistant gloss black powder coat finish stand up to tough conditions trip after trip. It stays looking sharp while delivering the same strong performance every time you tow.

Simple and Reliable: Fixed Ball Mount Design

There’s nothing complicated about it—this is a fixed ball mount that just works. No moving parts to fuss with, no adjustments needed. Slide it into your 2" x 2" receiver, secure it with your hitch pin or lock (sold separately), and it’s ready to haul.

Corrosion-resistant ball mount is 13" long and fits 2" x 2" trailer hitch receivers.

by:

This was quite obviously the right drawbar (longer than most) for my application because the hitch is nicely tucked under the rear of the car. The extra length is required to get the trailer coupler away from the bumper cover. I positioned the drawbar in the 'lift' orientation. Very pleased with it!

by:

Excellent service from etrailer! Required an extended hitch so I could open the truck tailgate with the trailer attached and has done the job it was purchased for. The finish looks as new as it did when I bought it a year ago.

by:

We love you guys as you know we order from you guys all the time for our whole company the best products the best service and great pricing. Thank you for being on our team.

by:

Excellent product and service.
Bought
this long heavy duty ball mount so I can open my tail gate with a trailer still hitched up.
All the online measurements and information made it much easier to choose the correct mount.
Works great!

by:

Great product! I’ve had mine for about a year and I use it to pull my 3800 lb bass boat all over Michigan. I actually had to buy this extended hitch, because all the gm products have the hitches tucked further under the bumper. Which when I use my mudflaps that hook onto the hitch, they would always hit the bumper. Great product.

by:

For a 7,500 lb hitch, I was surprised it didn’t have a wedge support welded on where the flat iron is welded to the square tube.

Working just fine yet. I was looking for an extended ball mount with a minimum .

by:

Works great on my lifted jeep, with a s pare!

by:

Shipment came quickly and packaged great. It is exactly what we needed for our hitch.

by:

The etrailer Curt Hidden Hitch was almost $200 less expensive than the suburu dealer, without installation. Thank you etrailer your suburu install video was fantastic. Very apprehensive about removing the entire rear bumper panel on my new outback; but had my laptop open in the back of the suv,and installed like clockwork. Hidden hitch has no unsightly drop bars hanging
Below the bumper. Unbelievable price, looks and
Tows great, and saved well over $350 installing
Myself. Suby looks great, and friends are amazed I
would tackle this job myself...This is my 2nd hitch
from etrailer, and I like the efficiency, and detail of your website. HATS OFF to you etrailer. Satisfied customer...

I needed a hitch with a long shank because of my spare tire being mounted on the back of my Jeep. This one does the trick!

Works as intended. Very pleased.

by:

Very well built and just what I needed for tailgate clearance

by:

This drawbar is exactly as stated and is of very high quality and finish. As with previous orders I have made with eTrailer, it came quicker than expected and always meets or exceeds expectations. Customer service has always been exceptional.

by:

I have traveled across the US towing an overloaded Uhaul 12' trailer.
The trailer was still behind me when I arrived, so the hitch functioned as promised.
I did not, however, require the extra long hitch as suggested for my particular vehicle, but it will serve as an extra. Unnecessary purchase.

My son has since purchased a hitch from etrailer for his new Ford Edge.
We're both happy - very robust and well engineered product(s)

Excellent. Now mostly serves as an intimidation factor for those who would tailgate me...

by:

I received a package from Etrailer and the package was badly damaged in shipping (No fault of Etrailer) and the item I purchased now wasn’t in the box. I took three pictures of the damaged box and I remembered I had saved the email from Lauren customer service representative of Etrailer. I told her my problem and shared the pictures I had taken. I will say Lauren was a blessing a helped me with this issue. Well today, I received a new package with its contents. Thank you Etrailer and Lauren !!

by:

Exactly what I needed to extend the reach of the ball beyond my rear tire carrier WITHOUT losing any tongue weight capacity! I used mine for the 2" rise.

by:

The ball mount is not welded square to the tube
This is the second one sent took 4 months to get a refund on the first one.
The first one lasted one long trip before bending
Quality control is lacking on this product line.

by:

Product is per specs. Attached is why I needed and how it helped me attach the mud flaps and still be able to plug in my 7 pin. I was really happy that I didn’t have to pay two day shipping, and it still arrived in that amount of time just like it said it would.

by:

Not usually a fan of any extra length between the truck and trailer, I opted for this extended ball mount so I could drop the tailgate without hitting the trailer jack. This did the trick. But this not a mount you should leave on your truck after detaching the trailer! Ouch!

by:

Each item was as described and installation a snap. Light are at least twice as bright as originals. The right-angle wiring pigtail made the project much easier.

Really appreciate the extensive information on each product and the follow up is a nice touch.

by:

Got this to go with hitch I installed on a 2013 Jeep. It gets the ball well out beyond the spare.

by:

Matt customer service was very helpful and this is exactly what my husband needed

by:

Works fine, gives me the extra room so I can open the tailgate with the
trailer attached (the shorter hitches allowed the tailgate to land on the
tongue jack handle).

by:

Works great with my RockTamers.

by:

Just what I needed, most receivers would not allow me to open the tail gate on my 2022 dodge ram without hitting the trailers crank used to mount and dismount the car hauler trailer, this receiver give me the extra few inches I needed and it works perfectly, I tried many local sources but they all came up too short, etrailer is the place to go for all trailer parts, they seem to know and sell exactly what you may need

Excellent, still works for me

Here's a couple photos of my recent project. I'm making some improvements on my off-road trailer. The Curt #C45270 is a perfect match for the Bronco. The longer length enables me to open the tailgate without making contact with the propane tank that I installed on Saturday. I can't wait to take it out to a gravel bar and set up a stove or a fire pit. Yesterday, I spent the whole day at Hidden Valley. I'm planning on heading to the river with my dog on Friday. Shorts & T-shirt weather in late December, CRAZY! I'll submit more photos once my project is completed. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hidden Valley in Missouri?! We are not too far from there, we're in Wentzville, MO. This year was wild with how warm it's been especially on Christmas. Sounds like you're preppin and getting ready for the spring and summer! Also Can't want to see the finished project once you're done.

  • Is it Better to Go with Higher or Lower Rise Ball Mount than Needed
You've got good instincts. I recommend going with a ball mount that has a 2 inch rise for the exact reason you mentioned, the truck will settle a bit with the tongue weight and any cargo weight. The ball mount we offer with a 2 inch rise is the Curt Class III Drawbar # C45270. This is considered an extra long ball mount, measuring 13 inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. Another option is the Curt Ball Mount for 2 Inch Hitches - Angled Shank # C45230. This ball mount has...

This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your Lincoln Town Car and it features a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. • Can The Curt Ball Mount C45042 Be Used In The Rise Position?
Hello Mel, thanks for reaching out. The Curt Ball Mount # C45042 does come with the ball pre-torqued in the drop position. You can remove the ball and flip it over to use it in the rise position, but you would need a torque wrench and a 1" lock nut in order to do this. Since it comes pre-torqued this one is generally only used in the drop position. If you want something not pre-torqued, use the # C45270 ball mount and the # 40038 ball.

This will also be the case for all adapters like the above. That said, I do have options for you that will give you additional clearance and will not reduce your towing capacity below 3,500 lbs. The Curt Ball Mount part # C45270 that you referenced is a hollow shank accessory. This ball mount has a 7,500 lb trailer capacity and 750 tongue weight capacity. Based on the weight of your trailer this ball mount should work well. For a 2-5/16 inch ball to fit this you would want the part # C40007, for a pin and clip # F-4 or for a locking one part # e98880.

There isn't a specific clearance number that is needed between a travel trailer and tow vehicle rear bumper, as it will really depend on several factors including the width of both the trailer and your motorhome. Something like the Curt # C45270, which is 13" long may allow that while Curt # C45010, which is 8-1/4" long, may not. I've added a link to each of our ball mounts for you to take a look at.
