Recommended 2" Ball Mount to Clear the Spare Tire on a Jeep Wrangler

Updated 08/10/2026 | Published 08/09/2026

Question:

2 hitch, 2 ball, 4 drop. Standard 9 spacing from pin to ball is too short. Shortest 8 hitch extender really makes it too long. Ideal would be about 12 pin to ball. Trying to clear spare tire on Jeep. Pulling small, lightweight camper.

Welcome back Phillip, and thanks for the information! I've got two ball mounts that are close to 12" from the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball but I don't have one that is exactly 12". I have listed them below:

13" Long - Curt Class III Drawbar item # C45270 and the Curt item # C54CR 2" hitch ball.

11-3/8" Long - B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount item # BWBMHD30013 and the Curt item # A-90 2" hitch ball.

Both of these ball mounts fit a 2" hitch receiver and have a 4" drop so you will have plenty of clearance for your spare. Each of them and the recommended hitch balls have plenty of capacity for your small lightweight camper.

What kind of camper do you have and what kind of camping do you typically do? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

@PhilipB You're welcome! That is a really interesting trailer! I have never seen one of those. That looks really comfortable for a smaller trailer too.
