eZ-Latch Coupler

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the contoured handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball. The eZ-Latch's sleek, ergonomically designed handle is also constructed of a durable composite material that's corrosion-proof, allowing it to withstand whatever the road and the elements dish out.

by:

Coupler appears to be well built. I'm certain that 5 stars is deserved. I may update my review later, but first I need to make the coupler work on my "not standard trailer".
Packaging efforts need to be stepped up a bit. I've seen other comments stating the same.

by:

Really satisfied with the fit as well as the function of the latch. It gives me piece of mind with my 18 ft tractor hauler. 5 stars if the 6 bolts would have been includdd

by:

When my old coupler failed I was very happy to find a bolt on coupler this heavy as most are weld on for a trailer this heavy. I wish I would have changed the coupler years ago. I always had trouble with the old one. This one is so easy to latch and unlatch from my truck. It is great quality.

by:

Still haven’t received it, I was told I had to wait until the 22nd to complain. Pretty dumb policy, considering I ordered it 16 days ago, and you still send me an automated rating system.

So, it looks like the order arrived. Can you please confirm whether it actually arrived?

Winston W.

8/2/2024

@KatrinaD It did arrive later that day. Either way, 16 days from order to delivery is ridiculous. Review was left prior to it arriving but review stands.

Katrina D.

8/2/2024

@WinstonW Hey, I'm glad it arrived, at least. I am sorry that it took so long, and will keep your review as is. Do you have any opinions or anything about the product you would like to let other neighbors know as well?

by:

Heavy duty for sure. Drilling 1/2” holes in 1/4” thick angle iron on the trailer required more than a hand drill, but other than that installation was simple. Removing the original coupler was a chore because it was welded on both top and bottom. I had to use a hacksaw (3 blades), 2 lb mallet, large crowbar, steel chisel, grinder. Fortunately I had all that, and I’m very pleased with the result.

by:

Fast delivery good communication. Have not installed the part but can tell it’s good quality.

by:

Easy installation and a major upgrade from the oem coupler!

by:

My old coupler was pretty used up and rated at only 5000 lbs for a 10,000 lb trailer so it had to go.
The new bolt-on 10,000 lb coupler is quality. I like the EZ latch because its smooth, self latching and easy. The job was about four hours including removing old coupler, welding some new channel in and drilling holes. New coupler looks good, works great, and trailer is safer.

by:

Very nice hitch release lever. Easy to grab and lift to release. Easy to install.

by:

Great fit. Easy fix. Replaced my worn thin ball hitch. Grade 5 1/2" bolts with lockwashers.

by:

this was an effective solution to a bent trailer coupler and twisted frame. i did add
welds and a piece of channel to the frame before i bolted it down. 4 stars because i had to hunt around for a lock long enough to go thru the hole in the
front. definitely recommend if you have a difficult repair on a trailer coupler.

by:

Received my order. Absolutely perfect. Super replacement for my trailer. It will be like new when installed. I am glad to have found your site. Can’t say enough about the quality.

by:

Coupler mechanism is finicky, you have to shake the trailer tongue to get it to lock. The pin hole is too small in diameter to accept a lock so you have to use a ball lock to lock the trailer. Also it’s plastic so if it sticks you have to be careful tapping on it. I wouldn’t by again and if it breaks I’ll go back to normal coupler.

The coupler mechanism is adjustable. Use the adjustment bolt on the underside of the latching mechanism to adjust until the coupler will self-latch when set atop the trailer ball.

by:

Very solid hitch. Fast shipping. Fits well except your trailer channels need to nearly come to a point for the first set of holes to have anything to bolt to. Mine did not, so I am having it welded on as well. No paperwork or hardware with this package, but the video will answer most all questions.

Excellent - it’s stronger than the trailer. Weak point is the plastic lever. If I’m unhitching on an incline it won’t release. I would break it.

by:

I don’t really want to write a review, hope someone will really read this.the main reason I ordered a bolt on coupling is so I would not have to weld, but I’m gonna have to even add 2in.to my trailer to make all the holes match. I would have returned it but your return policy says I would have to pay shipping ugg!!. I’m already in for 140.00 bucks now I have to pay and end up with nothing but lost of money for nothing. I’m 74 years old and did not want to weld , that was my only reason for ordering your coupling .the thing had some scratches and marks on it like it had already been a return, don’t think it was done during shipping, although it was put in a fairly large box with flimsy paper packing, so I’m going to have to make it work, even have to weld and everything. Now I’m having to waste time writing all of this , and it’s not going to even make any difference anyway. I think y’all owe me some kind of discount for all my troubles I was trying to avoid anyway, but I’m sure that is not going to happen either. GOD BLESS THOMAS OLIVER

You mentioned that you needed to add 2 inches to your trailer to install the trailer and I wanted to see if you could explain in more detail what you mean. Would you be able to send pictures?

by:

Hitch works great the only thing holding me back from a five star rating is the plastic latch handle. The latch handle flex's a lot and feels like it would break if pulled hard. I have figured out that if you start to jack the trailer up and then it releases easily. I will defiantly buy this hitch again.

by:

Just received the Trailer Coupler. Is very nice!! Heavy Duty! I placed it over the old coupler and it looks like it will work very well. I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

Matthew D.

The trailer coupler has worked out perfectly. Handles everything that I haul.

by:

I just received the coupler yesterday and it is very heavy duty and has a great finish on it. Customer service was incredible. They even expedited shipping even though I didn't ask or pay for it. Thanks etrailer!!

Fantastic. Good solid hitch. Great company to deal with. They care about their customers.

by:

Trailer coupling will not fit correctly on a 2" Ball...to tight and is always difficult to get on and off.

10/13/2017

We have contacted the manufacturer and they suggest pulling forward so that trailer is not pushing against the truck. If the ball is being pushed into the latch mechanism if will be hard to unlatch. Pull forward before unhooking it on a level surface.

by:

Good solid hitch, exactly as represented. Shipped promptly. Once I get the remnants of the old hitch cleaned off, it will be an easy, secure install.

Lance H.

It is working perfectly. Thanks for checking.

by:

Easy install and very well built

by:

It was easy to install great for bldg trailer from scratch or replacing trailer hitch couper.

by:

Bought this item to replace my old beat up trailer coupler.
This coupler looks great!
Had a problem with receiving this package originally in which the item was lost on delivery, but etrailer sent me a new item and received it very quickly. Very satisfied with this purchase

by:

Great company. Great service.

by:

Easy to install and like the easy latch. Have another trailer that came with this tongue on it, so when it came time to upgrade an older trailer, I chose this one. Very pleased

  • Difference Between 10K Demco eZ-Latch Couplers
The only differences between the Demco eZ-Latch Couplers # DM37ZR and # DM14793-81 is that the former has integrated loop holes for installing safety chains and a about a 2" drop while the latter doesn't come with provisions for attaching the safety chains and has the coupler in-line with the trailer frame. Aside from that everything else is the same.

Unfortunately the Atwood coupler in your picture (appears to be part 88555) has been discontinued so there is not any latch kit or replacement parts available. At this point the only option we can offer is to replace the coupler entirely. The most similar coupler we offer is the A-Frame Trailer Coupler # CA-5210-B. This has the same 8,000 lb weight rating as the Atwood 88555 coupler. It also appears to be very similar in design. If you want to go with something a bit more heavy duty,...

  • Can I Use A Demco Bolt-On Coupler With A Tubular Trailer Tongue
That is an interesting question. We do caution against bolting the Demco Coupler # DM14793-81 to a round tube. While you might be able to drill holes and tighten the bolts properly, the concern would be that the body of the coupler is not making full contact with the frame. As you said, they are intended for rectangular or right angle stock steel. With a part of the trailer as important as the coupler, it is an area where we would want to take any risks. Your best bet would be to take...

  • EZ Latch and Sleeve-Lock Trailer Couplers To Replace Latch Coupler on 2023 Intech Sol Horizon Camper
Based on your measurements it matches our Fulton 50-Degree A-Frame Coupler # FE443050303 which looks to be the same as what is on the 2024 Intech Sol Horizon from the videos I could find. So this would use either the EZ Latch # DM14793-81 or Sleeve-Lock # CA-5196-B coupler. Like you mentioned you will have to drill new holes to match your trailer mounts as they do not use a typical bolt on pattern.

All the bolt on trailer jacks we carry use the 3 bolt pattern which is commonly found on todays Couplers # DM14793-81. You may be able to replace your current jack with a Round A-Frame Trailer Jack # TJA-5000T-B. This will require a 2-1/4" hole opening for the jack to fit through as well as new mounting holes to be drilled into the mounting plate to secure the jack.

When looking up the specs for the H&H CA Series Flat Top Single Axle Cargo it said that this trailer uses a 2” A-frame coupler. The A-Frame Coupler Item # CA5100B will work with your trailer. It has a 2-1/4" hole diameter for jack: It requires (3) 3/8"-16 bolts for installation (not included). It will need to be welded on. If you need a bolt on coupler # DM14793-81 will work also. I have attached all of our 2" A-Frame Couplers to this page.

  • What Size Bolts Should Be Used To Install The Demco DM14793-81 Coupler?
The mounting holes on the Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler # DM14793-81 are all going to be 1/2", so you will want to use grade 5 or higher 1/2" bolts. The length will depend on the thickness of the frame you are attaching this to and the torque spec will depend on the bolt you end up going with. I know this is a fairly vague answer, but there can be a lot of variables with torque specs depending on the bolt. These rating should be listed on the bolts you end up going with though.
