Recommended Hydraulic Disc Brake With E-Coat Conversion For 7,000 lb Tandem Axles

Question:

I am looking to purchase a Disc brake conversion for my fifth wheel. I have tandem 7,000# lippert axles with 8 on 6-1/2inch bolt pattern and 1/2inch lugs.I am wanting a kit that is E-coat, with the clear oil/grease cap. it seems they only have this option for the 9/16inch and 5/8inch lugs. Is it available for a 1/2inch lug and I am missing something? Also, is the 24TA-BLKIT brake line kit suited for the electric over hydraulic 1,600 P.S.I. pressure? it only states Surge hydraulic brakes. Thanks,

For your Lippert 7,000 lb axles, I recommend the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 7,000 lbs, # K2HR712E. This will give you the 1/2 inch lugs but not the oil bath as you mentioned. For this assembly, I recommend the # BK3-200 Bearing kit. For easy maintenance and monitoring, I recommend the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2441 - Chrome Plated (Pair), # BB2441.

The Oil Bath option is only available with the 9/16 inch lugs in the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 7,000 lbs, # K2HR79E. For this assembly you will also need the Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs # 10-63, the inner bearing # 25580, and the outer bearing # 02475. Then you will need either the 9/16 inch lug nuts # 6-53 or need to get the base measurement of those lugs to replace them with 1/2 inch if possible.

For an electric over hydraulic brake actuator, I recommend the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi, # HBA16. The Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Line Kit - Tandem Axle - 24', # 24TA-BLKIT will work with this electric over hydraulic actuator and disc brakes as well as but not limited to surge brake applications.
