Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And today we're taking a quick look at the replacement step extension switch for your Fleetwood American coaches. So if something happened with that original wiring, it got severed a cut somewhere along the way, or it's just not functioning properly. This is going to be that direct replacement from Lippert to get you back to functional. It's going to have three wires to connect.
Really our main focus is going to be on the red and white wires, that's going to be our power and ground for the system. The Brown wire, kind of depends on your particular coach. There's going to be some different configurations. Usually that's a signal for the lights to come on. There might be a light underneath the steps, or it might also be able to trigger the lights in your coach overall. So you can wire that a couple of different ways.
But the main thing is that this little magnetic switch will operate your steps to come out whenever you open and close the door. So as those two magnets come to meet each other, that'll let the step know to retract in towards your RV, as soon as they separate that step comes out. It's pretty simple system. The wired portion is going to mount to the door frame so that you can wire that up along with the system, has some double-sided tape to attach it. And then our other side goes to our door.
So you want to make sure whenever you install it, that they're going to match up and meet properly and have the orientation so that whenever that door opens, it's going to go along with the door and not cause any issues. Pretty much as long as you're putting it back in the same spot that the original was, you shouldn't have any issues.Size is about one and a quarter inch for both of those magnets or the mounts there. Our wiring looks to be about 15 inches long, so fairly good amount of length. So pretty thin wires, probably a 20 gauge, or maybe even a 22 gauge wire. So want to get the appropriate butt connector to make that wiring connection for the rest of your system.
That's pretty much going to do it for our look at the replacement step extension wire. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right component for you. If not, we do have a lot of other components for your RV, including all kinds of Lippert stuff. So check us out here at etrailer.com and hopefully we can get you rolling. Thanks for watching..
