Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this replacement 12 volt motor with the box brackets for your Kwikee 42 Series electric RV steps. Now this part will replace the motor and the box brackets on your Kwikee electric RV steps. It does include the motor right here, the gear and the handle, the box brackets, and it is designed to fit the Series 42 steps. The motor will provide the power to extend and retract your Kwikee steps, and they do offer an automatic shutdown feature which will retract the steps if they strike an obstacle during extension. The gear right here with the handle will push the steps out and pulls them back in. The box brackets right here is what'll attach under the mounting bracket to house your motor and your gear.
These parts are a heavy gauge steel. They have a black powder coat finish on them for long lasting durability. They do use the solid steel drive rods and stainless steel bushings, and it is a very simple installation onto your step frame. Now the mounting hardware is not included. The wiring on this, the weatherproof wiring, is protected against the elements and it is made in the USA.
Specs again, this is a 12 volt motor. But that should do it for the review on the replacement 12 volt motor with the box brackets for your Kwikee 42 Series electric RV steps.

It worked great, but the holes did not match up, so I had a lot of modifications to do. Not plug and play!!
Product was an exact fit and service and shipping were excellent.
I have a 1999 Country Coach and the Series 42 steps stopped working. I thought it would be a good time to upgrade the gearbox to the most recent design as well as the controller. Investigating the revisions of the 42 series steps, there seems to be 3 versions. Pre 1999, 1999-2006 and 2007 and newer are the current design.
The new gearbox has a heavier duty (thicker, 1/4" vs 3/16") and the box bracket which has a bushing to support the shaft better than the old type. The motor has a female plug connector to accept the newest controllers. I used a 786949
This gearbox DOES NOT fit exactly for the pre 1999.
1) The bolt pattern to attach to the motor cross plate is very close but does not fit. The hole pattern is 1/2 hole off. There are (4) 1/4" studs pressed into the motor plate. The studs are pressed in and have to be removed. Since the holes are 1/2 hole off, it makes it impossible to drill new holes in the precise position. The holes need to be welded up and new matched holes drilled to mount the gearbox. There is a bushing in the plate the the gearbox shaft fits into, or rather is suppose to. See #2 fitment issue. The gearbox mount must be in the exact position as the old one to ensure the steps extend an retract fully.
2) The shaft extension is 5/8 rather than 1/2 like the old one. Lucky enough, there are 2 bushings installed in the original plate. The 1/2 bushing needs to be removed. I used a 5/8" reamer to remove the smaller bushing. It is a split bushing and is hard to drill without the drill jamming.
The last this to do is drill out the (2) 5/16 holes in the are on the gearbox. The paint makes it very difficult to get the pivot bolts inserted through the arm.
The modification is confined to the motor mounting plate and should be unbolted from the main sides of the assemble. on my Country Coach, I was not able to access the rear bolts, so I had to remove the complete step assembly from the coach. Be careful, the complete step weights 105 lbs.
Ordered and delivered as promised.
