Video Transcript for Lippert Components RV and Camper Steps LC301702 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Replacement Control Module for an Electric Coach Step. This replaces the control module that came standard on your single, double, or triple electric Lippert Coach Step, or Stromberg Carlson Sliding Step. This unit simply houses the circuits and electrical components necessary for the step to function properly. It's going to include the weatherproof wiring and connectors. It installs underneath the base of your step with four self-tapping screws. The screws are not included, but when you're ready to install this, you'll remove the self-tapping screws holding the ground wires on your previous module. Then you'll need to disconnect the four pin connector to the motor wiring harness, that will look just like this one.

Disconnect the two pin connector to the motor, it's going to look just like this one. Remove the self-tapping screws holding your module in place, and simply install the new module in reverse order. A few measurements to go over with you real quick and then we're going to go over a few of the wire functions. Edge to edge going this direction, it's going to give us a measurement of 5 13/16". Going this direction, just measuring the box portion, that's going to be 4 1/8". The holes are separated on center going this direction by 3 1/8", and the hole separation on center in this direction, is going to be 5.25". Really nice design.

Again, you're going to have your four pin connector, goes to the motor wiring harness. Two pin connector that goes directly to the motor and then your black wire right here, this is going to be the wire that gets connected for the step light. You're going to have two green wires, these are both ground wires. One grounds the chassis, the other one grounds to the steps. Then your purple wire, located right here, this is going to be for the step light switch.

That's going to do it for today's look at the Replacement Control Module for an Electric Coach Step. Again, this replaces the control module that came standard on your single, double, or triple electric Lippert Coach Step or Stromberg Carlson Sliding Step.

the product was shipped and received at my temporary RV location very rapidly. it worked when i installed it since i was armed with some slight installation tips from product reviews. well done! i always like dealing with etrailer.com cheers. Gene from the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally...

by:

Excellent customer service from Mike B, the part was a perfect replacement and fixed my problem, thanks for another great transaction.

by:

your video was most informative, (better than written directions), however the unit i am replacing did not have a separate swithch wire (purple) so I am unsure haow or where to connect. I have a 2006 Forest River Lexington with a Coach Step one step setup. please advise.

by:

My 2006 Monaco Diplomat steps stopped retracting and extending completely and reading on etrailer website found others with same problem. Called etrailer to order the correct step module and received it quickly. The module item number was LC301702 and it matched all the plugins and wires except there was a purple wire that was not necessary for my unit which I capped off. Thanks for the help!

Works great and is a better design than the original is sealed to keep moisture out of the electronics. It also fit perfectly.

by:

Excellent control module. Everything worked when the steps were mounted and plugged in. Very happy with your service. I was able to track my package across the US and Canada. Arrived on time that was stated.

by:

Part works great and was the correct one etrailer had recommended as the replacement needed.

by:

The step controller was the right one, and was verified during order placement. Said it would be there by Friday, but came on Monday. $xxx cheaper than PPL for the exact same controller.

by:

Its been a few months since receiving the new controller. I finally got around to installing it. All seems to work well! Fixed old controller problems so far!

The step controller has been working great! No problems!

by:

Same name brand part sold by many vendors but cheaper than most. The tracking was interesting. Showed in stock when ordered. Part picked 3 days later. Part packaged 2 days after that. Received by USPS in 3 more. And after 2 more days, I got my part. Good price if you don't mind waiting.

by:

The new replacement module was perfect. Installation was a breeze and now I realize that my old control module was creating more problems that I knew about. Highly recommend this product.

by:

quick service works great

by:

by:

Looks great new updated part for are coachstep system

by:

module works great so far

by:

I have a 2006 DutchStar. This product was as close to an exact replacement as you can get. The customer service from etrailer was awesome as they checked with Lippert mfg before I order just to make sure it would work and even sent me a pdf of the wiring diagram so I could figure out the install. I was on the road and staying at a KOA, shipping was fast and the box was well enough marked that there was no problem getting it when it arrived.

STILL WORKING GREAT!!!

by:

Very pleased with staff and service at etrailer! They were helpful in determining the proper product. Received the part very quickly and installed it. But....then realized it was not compatible with the door magnets; however, was able to get the right magnets and send out immediately. Very pleased that the problem was rectified so quickly.

So far...so good.

by:

It's been working like clockwork. Very dependable.

by:

The control module for the electric step on our RV stopped working because it became corroded from sprayed sand and water. The new unit is much better designed and fully insulated against a repeat of the problem. It works very well and was delivered as promised. I am pleased with the service.

Thank you for reminding me that I had purchased the Lippert Components Accessories. I am pleased to report that it has worked perfectly from the date that I installed it. The delivery was on time and the instruction information helpful. All told, I am pleased with the service and the improvement in the module. It is greatly improved.

by:

Product is RV step controller, and was an exact replacement for old device. Fit perfectly, and works as it should. Be careful of motor plug orientation--if wrong, device opens/closes door opposite correct way. Price was good.

Working as it should.

Received the LC301702 control box quickly and installed. This control box resolved my inoperable step problem. I have the Double Coach step installed on my 2005 Newmar Kountry Star DP. On my installation the purple and black wires for the step light were not required. I taped and seal the ends of those wires, attached the control box ground wires one to the step and one to the frame then plugged in the two wiring harnesses as shown in the video. Bam my steps are operational again. Thanks E-trailer.

by:

Great Purchase. Solid customer service. One call and they quickly diagnosed my problem after I explained the issue. Gave them my part number number and they recommended this part. Self-install and I'm not a mechanic. The Control Board for the electric steps fit into the existing holes. One extra wire I didn't know what to do with, so I just didn't hook it up. Steps work. Every time.

by:

Ordered this while on the road. Great service from etrailer, Brian took order and shipped to my next location where it was waiting for me. New unit bolted and plugged right in, works perfectly. Old controller failed after 10 years exposure to wet roads covered with corrosive crud. New controller is fully potted in rubberized compound which completely seals electronic parts from the elements, rather than old style conformal coating, so new unit should be more reliable.

by:

Worked as it should and is still working

by:

Product was just as described, easy to install and works great. This module is a real upgrade from the OEM module. The wiring was pretty much plug and play. A tip from a previous review explained the black wire goes to the step light and the purple wire did not apply to this installation. Great customer service!

  • Troubleshooting Two Coachsteps That Will Not Extend
If both of your Lippert Coachsteps are failing to extend it seems like you are on the money with the power or ground issue. Start with the ground wire and make sure it is connected to a clean surface or possibly relocate it if you can and that may just solve the issue. There may also be a short in the wiring to the common power source so use a circuit tester and check to see if you are getting the appropriate voltage and look for broken or damaged wiring which you will need to replace.

  • Troubleshooting Lippert Coach Step Clicking Sound When Extending or Retracting All The Way
The clicking sound you are getting of your coach step seemingly wanting to over extend or over retract is not a motor issue but rather a control module issue. This is basically the brains of the operation and if another item wasn't working correctly you'd know in other ways because the gears would slip. I recommend replacing the Control Module with # LC301702.

Sounds like you have a module issue. When the Coach Steps stop retracting and extending when they are supposed the solution is to replace the module. For that you'd need the part # LC301702. This is the brain of the system that tells the step motor when it's supposed to power in and power out the steps.

  • Troubleshooting Power Steps on Trailer that Only Operate When Bypassing Controle Module
The fact that the power steps on your Newmar Kountry Star seem to operate fine when bypassing the control module does point to the controller being the issue.
