Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking at, look at and showing you how to replace, this Demco Composite Easy Latch Repair kit. This is gonna be just all the pieces you need to completely replace maybe a broken or defective latch on your Demco Easy Latch couplers. We're gonna show you that process now. This is for the composite Easy Latch.
They make a version of this for the metal Easy Latch, and we've got versions for other couplers as well. So just make sure that you check the webpage. They've got a list of part numbers there that this is compatible with, and you find the right one for your coupler. Once you've identified that, we can start the replacement process. So for us, on the inside edge of the coupler, there's going to be a small screw that we can remove with an Allen key.
Now, if yours is broken, you might not need to remove anything, but for us today we'll show the whole process of removing and reinstalling. So let's get that screw popped out. Once the screw is removed, the lever will pop out from the other side with this pin all through it, (tool clunks) and then we can get our spring and this block that binds against the ball removed as well. (metal thuds) First, you wanna take that composite latch with this longer pin. You're gonna have one small hole through one end and the square end will have a threaded hole on the bottom.
This circular end will go and line up with the hole on the side of the latch, and this split pin will go down through all of those holes, and you will need to drive this in with something like a mallet just to get it to go through. Since this isn't a permanent installation for us today, we're just showing the process. I'm not gonna do that because it's not gonna come back out. But essentially what you'll be left with is this. You can kind of see that split pin in there just held in by friction, keeping this piece in place.
You can then take the assembled latch, our spring, and the block, and get these into position. It's gonna be kind of hard to explain, but you basically start by feeding the square end of that pin and latch through the top. You can see it popping out through the bottom right here. Slide the spring over that and take the block. Feed the square end in first, and it'll kind of drop in and rotate down in. So do your best to push the spring out of the way while you're doing this. It's one of those things, you just kind of have to push it until you feel some give on that spring, and you'll feel that block start to rotate around. And once you do that, you can try to get the square end of that pin to go through the spring and line up with the square end of our block. (metal clinking) Depending on if the spring is twisted or not, you might find that poking an Allen key down through can help realign it, but you'll feel it pop in whenever it does. So once it slides in, you'll know because the latch on the top side will be flush rather than partially set back. And you can take the included screw in your kit, thread it in through the same hole it was removed, and fully tighten it down. And once that screw is fully tightened down, you can give it a test. You'll feel tension on the latch. Everything is operating as it should. You can see the block on the inside moving as it should as well. So we're good to go. Overall, it's a pretty easy install and replacement process. Really the toughest thing is getting this spring to align. There's really not any special trick to it. You just kind of gotta work with it until it pops into place. Once it does, the replacement is done, and if the latch is the only thing that's broken, that's the only thing we need to worry about. The rest of this coupler can still stay operational for a long time. That'll do it for a look at replacement of the Demco Easy Latch Composite Lever here at etrailer. Thanks for watching.

Easy enough to put together and does the job. I would recommend making the latch out of steel since the plastic broke from falling debris.
