Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt coupler repair kit for the Curt 2" Posi-Lock coupler latches. Now, this kit here will let you replace a broken coupler latch on the Curt Posi-Lock couplers that fit the 2" hitch balls. You can see, there's your latch. That's how you would open it. That's how you lock it.

But just to give you an idea, there's the Curt Posi-Lock couplers that this latch will fit on. If you happen to have a damaged one or a broken one, you can repair it or replace it with this one. Does include the spring nut and the Posi-Lock mechanism, allows for a nice easy adjustment of your connection. And, if you notice, it does have a hole right here, so it will accept a coupler lock that has a pin diameter of up to a quarter of an inch. This item made connecting a whole lot smoother. Once you get the tension set correctly on spring, it works great. Thanks E-Trailer

by:

It seems to be heavy duty haven't pulled the trailer with it yet.

by:

I had a coupler with a bent latch, I thought I would have to replace the entire unit, then I found the repair page for couplers, I compared the parts and bought this one, it is a exact match to my coupler that is not branded. It took 3 minutes to install and adjust. When adjusting it I used a two in ball and tightened the nut on the repair part so it was snug with the ball in the coupler.

by:

I needed to replace a 1985 (34 year old) Fulton Fas-Loc coupler and once again, etrailer had me covered. Easy order, fast ship and works as advertised! Great job!

by:

I had been to FIVE different stores looking for what I needed..None had a "straight tongue" or wanted me to replace the whole system. Found you online; seemed way too easy to find and order i.e.too good to be true. Part arrived today..2 days earlier than stated. Installed right away and was exactly what I needed for my 40 year old trailer.

by:

just what I needed to fix my trailer

by:

It replaced what we had, but the old one was heavier duty with a stiffer upper spring. We had to tack weld the clamp shoe to keep it from shifting in the slot and loosening on the ball.

by:

After searching around for a repair kit I found this one and nobody even comes close to beating the price of E-trailer.

by:

Locking mechanism where hook latches could be designed better. Snapper pins received were too large in diameter to slide into coupler handle hole. Service has always been excellent.

Comments
This replacement latch for curt couplers will take up to a 1/4 inch diameter pin such as part # K-8P.

My utility trailer had a hitch handle that someone left in the up position and like always i got stepped on and bent over a week before my camping trip. The local auto parts stores didnt have anything. I found a complete replacement kit to basically rebuild the hitch. Price was great and fast enough for me to get done before my trip. Its been amost a year and we have put a few thousand miles on the trailer since and everything is still working great. (And my friends borrow it a lot and there rough on stuff) i would buy from etrailer again.

by:

Product is exactly what I was looking for. E trailer shipping response was exceptional.

by:

Perfect fit and repair of my trailer due to regular use and wear.

by:

This trailer 2 inch hitch Curt coupler repair kit was very easy to install , and worked great the shipping was fast and it was priced right E trailer is a great place to shop why go any where else. Joe L.

by:

Product was exactly as shown/written. Customer service terrific. Watched demo(s) of installation and read reviews. Definitely want to watch a demo if you have never attempted before. Spring is stiff and not much room to wiggle fingers. Crawled under to put together but no way. Stood above ball hitch and compressed spring just a bit and put bolt head assembly slightly through spring enough to slip lower female end over ball hitch rod and bingo it was in. Took less then 5 minutes from beginning to end even with my trying on my back in the rocks. Definitely would buy from here again.

by:

This product can help replace one that is worn out and difficult to latch anymore. The only problem we found was on the packaging, it said to follow instructions, yet there were no instructions. We figured it out though, as the old spring was severely past it's prime and through some old time country know how, we were able to get things to work. We were able to take our boat to the lake and bring it home again without problems after fixing it.

still working... no complaints

The item shiped and arrived in two days. It looks great and will solve my problem.
My coupler lock broke so I could not use my utility trailer. This will give me the service of my trailer again. Thanks, the product is very sturdy and appears very durable.

Eactly what I needed. Has worked very well. Good quality and excellent service.

Accidently backed over trailer coupling and it broke. This part solved the problem. Shipping was fast and price was great.

This product is still working great after a year since installed. Expecting many more years of use.

by:

There was no disappointment as to the quality of this item. It was heavy duty - in fact, it was heavier duty than the one it replaced. This installed fast and easy.
The additional locking washer underneath was a nice touch as now I can adjust the clamp pressure of the underjaw with a simple twist of the lever-lock on top.
The only drawback is that, as others have also mentioned, it does not come with any instructions. Not that its so hard to figure out but a simple diagram printed on the back of the cardboard insert would have made this a no-brainer to install. Without it I had to do a little fiddling with the parts and a little head-scratching. I know, I know - but in the 10 degree weather it made it longer than it had to be.
I did not use the underjaw as the old one seemed to be a better fit with the underjaw pivot pin - but I saved it just in case.
This cost a third less than other placed I shopped and a great buy all in all.
(But put a dang diagram though!)

by:

The bolt part of the Lowes (Carry-On-Trailer made) utility trailer 1 7/8 coupler broke. I bought this 2" kit figuring it would have a thicker better bolt in the setup but everything in the kit was the exact same parts EXCEPT the shoe which I knew when ordered. The kit worked Flawlessly with the use of the OEM shoe.

by:

Installed in minutes, easy to adjust, still working great after 1 year, even though trailer is stored uncovered outside.

Good as new

Perfect for the replacement I need on my trailer.

Comments
Just OK. I find it is not a good fit on this pop up trailer we have. Very tight fit so things have to be lined up perfectly otherwise the ball catches on the piece that rests under the ball and I have to realign the pieces and start over. The price was not great and found another similar product looked the same for about half the price too.

by:

I was very pleased to find a quick easy repair part for my small utility trailer hitch. Part fit perfectly, was relatively easy to replace, and the limited instructions were more than adequate.

by:

After having my 30+year old boat trailer "jump" the ball, I decided I might need to check the wear and tear on the hitch... Worn parts were obvious. Found this website and ordered this repair kit .... Fit perfect and now ready for more years of service.
MORAL of this story --- CHECK THE HITCH MECHANISM PERIODICALLY!!!

by:

I could not be happier. The install was a snap. Adjusting took minutes. The fit on my utility trailer was perfect. This was even better quality than the original, and given that my trailer was built circa 1980, that says a lot, as we were used to good products back then. Would gladly purchase again.

Comments
Still happy, still working very well. Will likely purchase from here again when I re-do the one on my popup camper.

  • Where on Trailer to Find VIN Information
If it's not located on the outside of the frame members that make up the trailer tongue, it might be on the inside of the frame members, so you might want to check there first. Then, examine the rest of the frame. I've also seen the information on the front of the trailer. If the trailer has a toolbox, propane bottles or other obstructions on the tongue, they might be covering the VIN plate.

My research on Escort trailers revealed a wide range of models produced at many different U.S. manufacturing sites, but I could find no mention of the brands of couplers supplied as original equipment. A trailer VIN is usually 17 digits long and includes a lot of information, including the maker, the number of axles, weight rating, etc. The first three characters identify the manufacturer. If your vintage boat trailer's VIN is no longer visible on the original sticker you may be able to submit photos of it to the manufacturer. If by chance these first three characters are still visible that might be enough to at least determine the company that made the trailer, and whether they are still...
