13970 Dutton Lainson Coupler Repair Kit

Today we'll be looking at a repair kit for Dutton-Lainson class 2 and 3 couplers, part number DL13970. We are using coupler DL13835 for demonstration purposes, but it'll also work with DL13897, DL13847, and DL13800. Here's what our coupler repair comes with. We have a new handle latch to operate our coupler itself. We have a new ball latch, 2 new springs, a nut, and a plate to hold our nut in place. It's a tool-free installation. You don't need any tools at all to install this.
The reason you'll need this kit is over time your ball latch can become worn out and not grab onto your ball on your ball mount very well causing your trailer to run the risk of popping off your mount on your truck or your tow vehicle. Never a good situation. Sometimes our latches can become damaged and not latch into place properly either. We clearly have this off of the trailer for demonstration purposes. That way we can show you all the inner workings inside of it and how the functions operate. More then likely when you're doing this repair it's going to be attached to your trailer, so for safety's sake make sure you chalk your trailer's wheels before you begin any repair.
That way you don't run the risk of the trailer running over you or causing property damage. Begin our repair by first removing our old pieces, lift up on the latch, flip it over, we'll push down here, back the nut off, slipping that aside, inaudible 00:01:43 take our plate off, take our small spring off, flip it over, pull off our handle assembly, take our large spring out, take our ball latch off. Take our new assembly here, slide it in, place our spring on, slide our ball latch into place, put the small spring on, our nut catcher, we'll thread the nut on. There should be good. Now we test the operation and make sure it latches, and it does. It'll wrap around our ball here securing our trailer to our tow vehicle. The replace kit even comes with a pin lock to make sure your handle doesn't accidentally release and uncouple your trailer from your truck.
All you have to do is just insert that like so. As you see, you can't open it now. It's a nice safety measure there that's included with the kit. Now that our coupler's been repaired all you have to do is pull the pin, open it up, and we can hook up to our tow vehicle again, and we're ready to hit the road. That completes our look at the Dutton-Lainson coupler repair kit, part number DL13970.

I left my SeaDoo on my LoadRite trailer at the dealer for winterization. I have no idea how the part that contacts the ball got mangled, but the latch would not close when I went to pick it up (it was not that way when I took it there). I had to adjust it out to get it hooked up . Anyway, I found this repair kit, ordered it, installed and adjusted it in ten minutes - wow, not enough Os in smooooooth - perfect. Thanks guys. By the way - I could not find this kit on the LoadRite site - maybe it is there, but I could not find it. Thanks again.
For those of us outside the contiguous USA mail delivery (vs UPS) would most likely be more affordable - shipping cost for my rather small package (just an envelope, actually) almost equaled the cost of the repair kit ... which took only 10 minutes to install after it was delivered.
Exactly what I was needing to repair the tongue on my boat trailer. My package arrived faster than the estimated delivery date. Great! Still works like new
One year later this part is still functioning like new. It was exactly the kit I needed for my pontoon trailer hitch. Somehow this part had become damaged during use, and I needed to replace it with original equipment parts. The webpage made it easy to find and talking with a rep gave me confidence I was getting just what I needed. The best part for me was how the gentleman at etrailer.com handled a small problem I found when I received the order. It had been (in my opinion) poorly packaged and damaged in shipment so a couple small pieces fell out of the box in transit. The replacement package was noticably better packed and came quickly at no charge and no question to me.
Everyone appreciates good customer service, and etrailer seems to have it in spades. I have used them since for other parts, same top service and customer experience.
I can honestly recommend etrailer, I know I will be using them in the future.
Could not find this part anywhere in town, so went home and found it on etrailer. Good price, easy to find and received it in three days. Installed it with no problem.

Repair kit trailer hitch
I needed coupling parts for a 20 year old trailer. Etrailer had them. The only tricky part was that I couldn't find the item on their website. Google found it. Google can search their site better than they can. I would have given them 5 stars if their own search engine worked for me.
I have a few small trailers. ETrailer has been my goto place when I can't easily get things locally.
THE COUPLER FIT PERFECT AND WAS EASY TO PUT ON, NO TOOLS NEEDED. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. IT DOES COME WITH TWO SPRINGS. I THINK THE PICTURE THAT IS SHOWING THE STIFF SPRING LOOKS LIKE A WASHER. I HAD EVEN ASK THE QUESTION, THEY HAD SAID IT DIDN'T COME WITH THE STIFF SPRING, BUT IT DOES. IT DON'T TAKE LONG AT ALL TO CHANGE AND WAS EASY.

I hadnt used it a lot, but still doing great.
Ordered replacement hitch parts because original was damaged in storage. Original parts were bent so bad it was nearly impossible to connect boat to car.
Replacement parts fit perfectly. Instructions for installation and adjusting were accurate, helpful and complete. It was as good as new.
My coupler was damaged and very difficult to open and close. Replacing with the repair parts restored full function for several months. I subsequently sold the trailer so can't report on full lifetime.
Perfect fit and simple install.

Fit perfect and been good.
Needed to replace the coupler on my boat trailer after the guys at my winter storage place managed to badly damage the original. etrailer.com made it easy to find the correct replacement, shipped it quickly, and it was a snap to install. Working great a year later.
It is the replacement part I was looking for,,I bought one from A@@@zon, and I did not feel comfortable for some reason, so I ordered a real replacement.
