Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel - Fixed Fifth Wheel - RP30047 Review

Today we are going to review part number RP30047. This is the Reese Fifth Wheel Dual Jaw Trailer Hitch with a 16,000 pound weight capacity. This fifth wheel trailer hitch uses the two jaw locking system, which will provide more jaw to king pin contact than the economical slide bar models, it will give you less rattle and greater security. I am going to open up the jaws to show you the dual jaws. If you move the safety latch over, that will allow you to pull open the handle. When you pull open on the handle, there is a little notch that will latch onto the plate and it will hold the jaws open right here.

So you can see the dual jaws let me release it and you will see the dual jaw right here and they basically close and wrap completely around the king pin and give you less rattle and greater security. Now it does have the 4-way pivoting head, which will ease hook up on un-leveled ground. Basically you can see it move side-to-side and it also moves front-to-back. This one being brand new is pretty stiff, but it gives you 4-way movement. Now on the side, let me rotate this and I will show you on the side that, there is a height adjustment when you install the cross-member to the fixed legs, you will notice that there is four sets of holes that you can put the bolts through and basically you can get the correct height you need above your truck bed.

If you put the bolts or if you install the cross-member in the top bolts, that would be the lowest hitch height, which would be 14 1/2inches. If you put the bolts in the lower holes, that would raise it up to the maximum of 18 inches, so there is a 3 1/2 inch height adjustment that you can do above your truck bed. The installation on this hitch is very simple and the removal is also. The fixed legs as you can see right here flare out, so they do have a wide stance and they are a one piece leg, which will offer excellent stability. The finish on this is a black powder coat finish on both the legs and the hitch.

It will resist corrosion. This locking handle that I have demonstrated, does have a nice cushion grip on it and again just to show you how that opens, let me turn the handle push it down, so you will be able to see the dual jaws. You just pull open and it will latch into place and back your king pin in, fifth wheel king pin, release it and it will be around the king pin and just push down on your safety latch. You will notice that once you push the safety latch right here around the handle and push it down, it keeps the handle from being operated, which will keep the jaws around the king pin. There is a hole on the latch and a whole on the head and if you put a pin or clip through there or even a padlock, which is sold separately, for additional security that will keep it locked into place.

Now I am demonstrating this hitch on base rails, but they are not included with this part, they are sold separately. The rails and the mounting kit will be sold separately. We do recommend if possible using a custom install mounting bracket, because that will cut the time in half compared to a universal install kit. This hitch will fit the Curt, The Valley, The Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch and the Reese Space Rails. Again the gross towing weight capacity on this is 16,000 pounds. The vertical load limit on this is 4,000 pounds. The hitch height we mentioned is 14 1/2 to 18 inches and it comes with a five year limited warranty. The pin and clips that attach it to the rails will be included with the hitch. I just want to show you the rear of the hitch basically to show you the large pivot bolt. This head is installed on a pivot beam and its held in by this large pivot bolt with a pin and clip, so if you remove that pin and clip, you can pull that pivot bolt out and then the whole head and pivot beam would come out of the cross-member. Very simple installation. That should do it for review on part number RP30047.

  • Availability Of OEM Puck System Or Equivalent For 2009 Ford F250 With 6-3/4' Bed
Hello Rik, thanks for reaching out. There are 5th wheel mounting kits available for the 2009 Ford F250, but we do not have an OEM puck system kit available. The closest thing we have to the OEM style mount would be a B&W Companion/Turnoverball system like part # BW64QR. The Turnoverball system is similar to the OEM puck system in that the hitch can be removed, and you can have full bed access. No rails in the bed or anything. It also gives you the ability to tow 5th wheel and gooseneck...

  • Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2000 Ford F350 with Air Bags
You have a couple options, but I cannot recommend you modify the mounting bracket of your air spring kit that you have installed. Instead the easiest thing to do would be to use a universal rail kit like part # RP30035. Universal kits typically fit with air bag kits better than custom install kits. The other option you have would be to use the # RP56005-53 that you referenced and then go with a different air bag kit that is confirmed to work with fifth wheel rails like the part # F2550. The Curt Custom 5th Wheel Install Kit part # C16443-204 which is a fit for your 2003 Ford F-250/F-350 will use three bolts to secure the base rail to the frame bracket and one bolt to secure the base rail to the bed floor on each side. Therefore, you will only be using three bolts per side that go between the base rail and frame bracket but there are a total of four bolts per side securing the base rail. The 5th wheel install kits will all use four bolts per side to secure the base rail...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2009 Ford F-250 Short Bed
Reese custom installation kit # RP56005-53 for your 2009 Ford F-250 short bed uses different rails and brackets like you said. They are longer so that the frame brackets all install on the outboard sides of the frame making it much easier to install which takes less time. This is the kit I would go with if I was putting one in a truck. The installation of custom kit # RP50082-58 does require some work on the inboard sides of the frame so installation is not quite as easy but there is no...

  • Availability of Install Kit to Install Valley Fifth Wheel Hitch on 2007 Ford F250 Super Duty
To measure the length of your truck bed, measure from the front of the bed rearward to the rear edge of the bed (not the end of the tailgate). If you have the 6-1/2 foot bed, you will need to use a sliding fifth wheel hitch to provide additional clearance between the front of the trailer and the rear of the cab during low speed maneuvering. Failure to use a sliding hitch on a short bed truck could cause the front of the trailer to strike the rear of the truck cab during turns. The fifth...

For above the bed 5th wheel rail kits for your 2008 Ford F-350 long bed it boils down to 3 possible categories: custom, semi-custom, and universal. The main difference between these is the amount of drilling into the truck frame required for installation. Custom kits generally require no frame drilling at all. Semi-custom kits will require some drilling. And universal kits require the most drilling. Because custom kits do not require drilling into the frame (for most options) they also...

  • Jaws Will Not Release on Reese 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
Does the handle on the 5th wheel hitch offer any resistance when you pull on it to open the jaws? If it doesn't then that is an indication of a broken spring. But there is a second spring that could be missing as well. The trouble is you have to access the underside of the head to access the springs. If the hitch jaws will not release and the trailer is coupled then you can try to pry apart the jaws manually. Other wise you would have to release the head from the legs which I do NOT recommend....

  • Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2017 F-250 Super Crew with 6 3/4 Bed
Since you have a Keystone trailer with the Turn Max technology you don't need a slider at all actually. Manual or automatic slider would not be needed. With fifth wheel hitch you actually don't really need them to sit higher than the bed rails of the truck. It's actually the opposite in nearly every situation that the hitch sits below the top of the bed rails. The pin box of the truck extends down far enough to compensate for that. The Reese fifth wheel hitch part # RP30047 is a similar...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit and Hitch for 2017 F-150 & Highland Ridge Open Range Light 5th Wheel
The 2018 Highland Ridge Open Range Light lf318rls has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 9,995 lbs and an unloaded weight of 7,895 lbs. According to Ford, your 2017 F-150 Ecoboost 3.5L Supercrew 4x4 has a towing capacity of 10,200 lbs. So, you won't have any problem towing this 5th wheel trailer. For your 2017 F-150, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50087-58 which is a custom fit for your vehicle. Then...

  • Can A Fifth Wheel Trailer Be Used with a Ford F-150 Supercrew 5-1/2 Foot Bed
You may be able to use a fifth wheel, depending on the width of the trailer. Since the 5-1/2 foot bed is so short, in turning the fifth wheel trailer can end up making contact with the cab of the truck resulting in damage. The Sidewinder is essentially a hitch extender that will provide enough clearance for some fifth wheel trailers to be towed behind 5-1/2 bed trucks. You will need to take some measurements on the truck and the width of the fifth wheel trailer and calculate if you would...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and In-Bed 7-Way for Long Bed GMC Truck with Rails
Hey Steve, it sounds like you have a set of fifth wheel rails in the bed of your truck already and are just looking for a hitch to fit into them as well as a 7-way kit that puts the 7-way up in the bed. Check out the attached picture to see what the rails you have SHOULD look like. For a hitch you could then use the Reese 16k part # RP30047 since you have a long bed and do not need additional clearance to make tight turns. Then for a 7-way you would want the part # 41157 to give you...

  • Can 2021 Ram with Ram Boxes Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
There is definitely a way to tow a 5th wheel trailer with your 2021 Ram that is equipped with the RamBox, but it's going to require some new components both on the trailer and your truck. The issue with the Ram Boxes is that they make the bed rails really narrow on the truck, so much so that you can't make turns without a standard pin box or adapter like a Goose Box knocking into them. The only solution for this is replacing the pin box on the trailer with a pivoting option like the Reese...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Use with Reese Revolution on Fifth Wheel Trailer
Since your trailer has a Reese Revolution pin box (which is the best way setup for a truck with as short of a bed as you have), you need a fixed hitch that attaches to a rail kit in four places. The Companion style hitch like you mentioned which attaches through the gooseneck ball shank cannot be used with the Revolution pin boxes. The Reese Select Plus # RP30081 that you referenced would be a great choice but you'd need a rail kit installed in the bed of your truck. If you can get me...

  • What 5th Wheel Hitch can Use with My Draw-Tite/Reese 5th Wheel Rails?
Hello Dave, My mother always told me to never assume, but since she isn’t here right now, I’m going to assume you mean the Draw-Tite/Reese 5th wheel rails. The great news is that Reese rails use the industry standard pattern, so there are a lot of hitches that will fit them. The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # RP30047 you were looking at is a solid choice. If you’d like to invest a little more, my personal favorite is the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual...

  • Comparing the B&W Patriot 16K, Curt A16, and Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitches
The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3200, Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120, and Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 all have fully articulating hitch heads so there won't be much of a difference in hitching/unhitching at an angle. I recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120 over the others for a few different reasons. The first of which is that the A16 has 1" thick, dual interlocking jaws which will do a phenomenal job of reducing...
