Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A20 Two-Piece Interlocking JawA20 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A20 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.

We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.

This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

Ive been using this fifth wheel set up for about 5 months now and I don't have any complaints. I pull a 2022 Heartland Cyclone 4006 toyhauler fifth wheel. Loaded down its usually weighing between 18 to 20,000 lbs depending on what we are hauling.

Ordering from etrailer was a great decision! I got a confirmation email for my order within minutes and an email it had shipped in just a few hours. I was given an expected delivery date and it actually showed up a day early. I’m super impressed with the customer service! I bought a fifth wheel hitch and found an [online] video for my truck and hitch that was extremely helpful, especially since all the RV dealers in the area were two months out to install it. All in all dealing with etrailer has been a great experience and I will definitely be going back for any of my other RV needs!

by:

Easy to order from etrailer with fast shipping. Ordered on Mon estimated delivery on Fri but came in only 2 days for a deliver Wed. Curt A25 hitch packaged very well good instruction easy assembly on tailgate filling installed and torqued in less that 30 mins.

by:

Unfortunately it was missing a bunch of nuts, bolts and square hole washers. Called and they have been sent. I've improvised in the meantime to complete the install. Not so easy to install. Had to put the front carriage bolts upside down as I couldn't fit my hand between the frame and the bed to start the nut.

by:

The hitch has worked well for us . I wish it would go up 2 inches higher as it is close to the box have not had any problems though

by:

It is well built. Directions could have better illustrations. Putting handle together was the most difficult part of process. It dropped right into my existing rails. Have not hooked my fifth wheel yet, but very satisfied with the finished product.

by:

I could not be happier. It's solid, no sway while towing and no banging when I hit the brakes. Great product and I would highly recommend it!

by:

The hitch arrived as promised and in perfect condition. Couldn’t ask for better customer service. Looking forward to towing with the Curt A25.
I’ll amend this review after I tire with it. Super happy with etrailer!!

Packing was horrible. Smaller box inside a bigger box just bouncing around that created a big hole. All the bolts and nuts came free from packaging and were all over. Not to mention the ones that got lost.

by:

Well made, quick delivy

by:

It was poor delivered and packaged. I don’t even know if all the parts are in there yet till tomorrow. There was a huge hole delivered and they even tried to patch up the box. SMH

by:

I love the Curtis fifth wheel hitch for my F150 2006 Ford it was easy to install and easy to use pulls great no problems at all thank you

by:

Real good product

by:

I have pulled a 16,000 lbs 5th wheel over 13,000 miles with this hitch and no issues. It arrived with the package damaged and the handle bent. Etrailer quickly replaced the part. The base will rust if not covered. If you remain hooked up for an over night stay, you will need to lower your jacks to stabilize and prevent rocking do to the hitch’s design. Great product.

by:

Took me a month, but I finally got the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch in my truck and took it for nearly 150 mile trip to see how it would work. My wife and I both were amazed at how quiet and the bouncing, snapping, popping and cussing were all gone. This hitch is absolutely amazing. Before, when I just pulled out of my driveway, the old fifth wheel would snap and pop loudly several times. It was so quiet with the Curt A25 (new one), both of us looked at each other and looked back to see if the trailer was moving with us. (It was) Thank you to Curt for building it so well and to all of the people at etrailer that recommended it and ensuring it was all right.

by:

Ellen was very good assisting me with my first purchase from etrailer.
We discussed options about 5th wheels vs gooseneck with adapter.
The recommendation was a fifth wheel, then she suggested the curt with 360 swivel and cushioned. I have been greatly pleased with this setup.
My wife and I completed the installion in 3 1/2 hrs.
I'll be doing more business with etrailer.
Thanks James
Note: have pulled 6000 lb camper about 3 trips, handles great

by:

Installed in 2013 F-150 61/2 ft bed. Everything fit as it should. Directions were pretty straight forward. Have a long handled 3/4 open or box end wrench on hand. No room for ratchet . Lightly tape front nuts and spacers together and slide under bolt and start threads from above. They are carriage bolts but long enough to start threads. You'll see what I mean. All parts included, frame brackets fit perfectly. Very satisfied with Curt c16441-204 fifth wheel installation kit and etrailer. I've dealt with etrailer before and never had a problem.

by:

My 5th wheel package was robbed during shipping.
When
I received it, the box had obviously been opened and then taped shut.
When I opened it, the base of the 5th wheel hitch was gone!
I called etrailer's customer support and they were amazing.
I sent pictures of the package I took before and after I opened the package.
The customer support rep said that was all I needed to do.
And they shipped a new base two days later.
I just received the base of the hitch.
I am extremely happy that etrailer's customer support was so responsive when I had a serious problem!
Thank you etrailer customer support!

I have been using this hitch for a year now. Very easy smooth operation. There is a little noise when towing, but after I added some grease, It has been a pretty quiet hitch. Easy installation with the large brackets and very solid.

by:

Had a Pullrite Superglide in my old F350 standard bed but when I upgraded to the 8ft bed of the dually, I went with this hitch. Hitch came in 2 boxes and although the boxes worked banged up a bit, everything was there and fine. It only took about 30 minutes to bolt everything together and install on the rails that were already in the truck. I actually had to take the hitch apart once to adjust the hitch up a little. I wanted it as high as possible in the bed, while still clearing the Roll N Lock retractable bed cover. Looks good, seems solid and well made. Hitch head comes off to make it easier to remove this hitch, but even with the head connected, I am able to move the hitch in the truck (would need to take head off for me to lift the hitch out of the truck). Also installed a BedRug at the same time to clean up the bed.

by:

Purchased the Curt 25 A. 25,000 lb capacity with articulating head. I pull an 18,000 lb 5th wheel camper with a 3500 diesel dually. There is lots of movement when braking and start of pull after a full and normal stop. I would not buy the articulating model again. The product seems to be well built just too much front to rear movement in the head.

by:

The only thing I wish I got was a sliding hitch as it would have been a bit easier to hitch as a perfectly straight hitch I have only a inch to spare before my tailgate hits the bulkhead. So being that I have to close the tailgate before I am totally hitched into the kingpin

by:

Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch... received in record time ,box was damaged and the pull arm was bent. Called Etrailer and they sent me another pull arm immediately. Great customer service, will continue to do business here. Thanks Molly and George

by:

Had products within 5 days and this including Saturday and Sunday. The mounting brackets match up to truck perfectly. only needed to remove the spare tire. did right on the floor of my garage. It was a two person operation getting bolts. total worth spending extra to avoid drilling in to the frame. 3 to 4 hours to complete project. that includes installing the hitch and clean up.

by:

It’s held up great. No slack in the kingpin jaws or anywhere else. All the products bought work just the way they were advertised.

  • How to Make Sure 5th Wheel Rails are Square and Straight before Mounting Trailer Hitch
We have always found the Lil Rocker as a fit for industry standard rails. It is possible like you said that it was twisted or bend somehow. You can also check that the rails are lined up properly by measuring from the center of the outside mounting slot diagonally to the center of the opposite slot on the other rail. Then repeat with the other side outside slot. The measurements should be the same. If not then the rails are not square. Take a look at the picture to see what I mean. I...

The Curt fifth wheel rail kit part # C16441-204 that you referenced will fit your 2013 Ford F-150 with the Heavy Duty Payload package. The 5th wheel hitch I recommend for the OEM puck system on your 2023 Ford F-450 Super Duty is the Curt A25 # C16180 which connects to the pucks using the Adapter Rails # C88KR. I really like the A25 because it has dual interlocking jaws that wrap around the king pin and provide 360 degree contact, as well as a fully articulating torsion head. With these features you get a really smooth and secure towing experience. When it comes to a bed liner for your truck,...

  • Recommended 25K 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2022 Ford F-350 DRW
Typically you'll only want to use 80-85% of any item's total capacity to keep a buffer safety zone so that you never risk having a product fail. You're correct that the only Companions at 25k capacity are for OEM puck systems. B&W is a great brand and is my favorite as well, but in this case they're not going to have anything compatible with with the # BWGNRK1116-5W that's going to have over 20k capacity, so you'll have to look at another brand. Curt offers the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer...

  • Weight of Curt C16180 A25 5th Wheel Hitch for 2022 Ford F350 With OEM Puck System
The Curt A25 5th wheel hitch you'd looked at, part # C16180 weighs about 120 lbs, and the necessary # C88KR base rail to puck adapter weighs right at 70 lbs. The hitch is a bit heavy, but its weight can be significantly reduced by removing the hitch from the head, which is done by pulling one clevis pin. This breaks the hitch down into two pieces that are more easily handled. If you'd like to install a 7-way in your truck bed so you don't have to run the trailer connector up over the...

  • What Is the Weight Capacity of the Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for a 2019 Ram 3500
For starters, the fifth wheel install kit I recommend for a 2019 Ram 3500 is the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16430-204 which does not require any drilling into the frame. The Curt Semi-Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kits does save money but is not a good option because it requires drilling into the frame. In regards to weight capacity, there isn't one for the base rails or frame brackets because this will come from the fifth wheel hitch. In other words, the weight...

  • How to Reduce Severe Chucking and Jarring Issues with a 2013 Keystone Montana 5th Wheel Trailer
You are correct, the Lippert Tri-Glide has since been replaced with the Lippert Trailair Flex Air in favor of a more streamline design with less moving parts. In regards to comparing the Trailair to the MORryde, the Trailair uses an airbag with shock absorber and the MORryde uses a rubber spring. The Trailair will provide a smoother ride and have more adjustments but the MORryde will be a bit more durable. They are both great options for you but it really just depends on preference. With...
