Features to know about

Built to Tow with Confidence: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

The Curt E16 5th Wheel Hitch w/ S20 Slider is made for dependable performance when pulling heavy fifth wheels. With a gross towing weight rating of 16,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 4,000 lbs, it’s a solid setup for serious hauls. The steel construction with a carbide black finish gives it the strength and durability needed for long trips and heavy loads. Once mounted, it feels secure and steady—just what you want when you’re covering big miles with a full-size trailer behind you.

Smooth, Secure Connection Every Time: Auto-Locking Slide-Bar Jaw with Rear Tension Bar

Hooking up feels straightforward thanks to the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw design. As soon as the king pin slides in, the slide bar locks automatically, while the rear tension bar clamps down to keep everything tight. This setup minimizes rattle and movement for a smoother ride and reduces the extra noise that can wear on you over long drives. It’s a simple, reliable mechanism that makes connecting and disconnecting less of a chore.

Make Tight Turns Without Worry: Non-Binding S20 Slider with 12" Fore/Aft Travel

For short-bed setups or tighter spaces, the S20 slider lets the hitch travel 12 inches front to back so you get more room between cab and trailer during slow turns. The non-binding design means it slides easily even under load, helping prevent contact between truck and trailer when maneuvering in campsites or parking lots. It’s one of those features that adds peace of mind every time you need that extra clearance.

Level Towing Made Easy: 4-Position Height Adjustment and Dual-Pivot Head

Getting the trailer level is key for smooth towing, and this hitch gives you flexibility with a 4-position height adjustment ranging from 14" to 17". The dual-pivot head with 10 degrees of lateral movement helps line things up even on uneven ground. Plus, the anti-rattle skid plate keeps things quiet while towing, so your truck and trailer feel in sync from hookup to highway speeds.

Simple Setup from Start to Finish: Rails and Installation Kit Included

The E16 comes ready to install with base rails and an installation kit included. The setup process is straightforward and designed for easy alignment so you can get towing faster. Once in place, it provides a sturdy mounting point that stays solid mile after mile without constant adjustment or fine-tuning.

Video Transcript for Replacement Head Unit for Curt E16 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Review

Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be going over the CURT E16 replacement 5th wheel head. This is designed to replace your E16 5th wheel head. If you've already got one and you're wanting to replace it. If it got damage or if it's old and rusty this is gonna be a perfect fit. It's also gonna come with the replacement bracket.

If you'd like to swap out the head on the S20 which is their new slider base, you can put this in, mount it to the correct height and then put this hitch head right in the top of it. You are gonna get all the replacement parts that initially come with the kit so you'll get new hardware, new pins, a new handle, and this bracket. The best way to get this set up inside the S20 base is to set your head height with the bracket first and then set the head on top of it. Now with our new hardware, we can set the height of our hitch a lot easier than a lot of other hitches out there. A lot of 'em are gonna have to set it with the head attached but this bracket only weighs about 10 pounds so it's really easy to get it in place.

Now to get your new head in place, it's as simple as setting it on top of the bracket. And again, it will come with two new pins. And that's, I think that's kind of nice 'cause when you're replacing you know, new parts you'd like to put new hardware in too 'cause chances are these are gonna be pretty wore out. So some of the reasons why you would need to replace your 5th wheel head is if it's got a lot of rust on it it's gonna start to affect the integrity of the strength of the hitch itself. So if it's got too much rust you might think about replacing it.

If you've not been using enough grease or any grease at all this head can start to score and once it starts scoring you can't really go back 'cause it needs a smooth surface to slide on your kingpin base. Another reason is your grease gets dirty that can cause scoring. If you're not using a lube plate. There's a lot of different reasons of why you would need to replace this head. If your mechanism isn't working correctly anymore.

But it's good to know that you can just replace the head. But with that being said, a lot of people what they'll do is they'll, if they have an A16 or an E16 head and they have the traditional base but they get a new vehicle and they'd like to switch to the slider, you can keep your old head, get the slider, and then later on you can replace the head. So there's several different options and reasons of why you would need a new E16 head. Well, with all that being said, we've got it all installed it's ready to go, and it's ready for our next trip.

The Curt Custom 5th Wheel kit specifically for our 2016 RAM 1500 Crew Cab, 5’ 7” bed, was perfect. Professional installation cost $400+. CombinEd with the Reese sidewinder we installed ourselves, we can almost make a 90 degree turn if ever needed. Thanks, JW, Long Island, NY.

In this case... You get what you pay for! This was a high quality product that was specific for my 2017 Ram 1500 6 1/2' bed. This was the only kit I found specific for short(er) bed RAM Trucks. Following the paper instructions along with the video provided by etrailer.com made this install downright easy.

DIY'ers - Remove the spare tire first! I reversed my truck onto Rhino Ramps and had plenty of room to do this job with typical tools and the help of a ratcheting 1/2 inch wrench. Use a punch / drill a pilot hole for your larger bit. Don't worry about the 17/32 drill bit.. a 1/2" bit worked just fine. This will not be a quick job, like the one shown on the video. Allow yourself time to take 4 hours to complete the job. You will have a crap ton of spacers left over.

67" Beds - Follow the video to the T.. The truck in the video is obviously a 67" Bed.

76" Beds - You'll notice when it's time to add the frame brackets that the video has a frame beam but up against the bracket that goes on the frame.. Yours will be further back.. You'll also notice the frame doesn't match.. Don't worry, use the same hole location as instructed on the video. You only have to remove the frame stabilizer on the drivers side..

I followed the install video, but did not try to remove dual exhaust. Remove rear tires, wiggle cross brace in to place from right side of truck. Was worried, mounted close to the front of bed. But really happy, kit was great. Took 6 hours to install, with help from the wife. When hooked up, lots of room to turn. Very happy, thank you

2016 Ram 1500
Installation kit is a good quality product. I was a mechanic for over 25 years and found the instructions to be thorough but somewhat difficult to understand. The instructions are vehicle specific but should have more photos showing things like where to drill access holes. It's also a good idea to remove the spare tire for easier access. Instructions say it should take 90 min to install, (maybe my next time), took me about 4 hrs by myself. I like that it is compatible with multiple hitches.

Customer and product support is better than great as well as prices, service and available selection. Being new to 5th wheel hitch requirements I was able to get all the info needed on type and additional parts required. Received everything on a timely basis, had it installed locally without any problems what-so-ever. This is a great company by any standard and sure to be the next retailer success. They have covered all the basis in what it takes to be not just a good retailer but truly a great retailer.

2015 Ram 1500
Etrailer is the best. Rails and kit arrived quick and in good shape. I have put 2 on Ford's and we're a lot easier because of room to work, Rams are pretty tight. Rails and kit are great quality and cheaper than Reese kits. A lift would have made it easier but not necessarily.

I have enclosed 2 photos showing how I received my order. I did inventory the items and all appear to be there with the one bent nut handle. The 3 star review is directly related to packaging.

Great product, very easy to install, only thing that could've been better would be two longer handles on the nuts installed inside the bed sill.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit for 2016 Ram 1500
The Jayco Eagle Superlight is rated at GVWR of 10,200 lbs. There are only certain combinations of a 2016 Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7L Hemi that will pull that much weight. Here are the 4x4 combinations that work: Quad cab 6ft 4 inch box with 3.92 axle ratio Standard Cab 8 foot box with 3.92 axle ratio If you are 10 lbs light of complete capacity fully loaded, you can also use the Crew Cab 5 ft 7 inch box with 3.92 axle ratio. • Recommended 5th-Wheel Hitch that is Easily Removed on 2014 Ram 1500
Choosing the right 5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch for your 2014 Ram 1500 will depend first on the weight of the trailer you plan on towing. You will want to make sure the truck and hitch have weight capacities that exceed the trailer's loaded weight. Since your Ram 1500 has a short 5-1/2 foot bed, the safest way to tow a trailer is to use a stationary 5th-wheel hitch and replace the pin box on the trailer with a Sidewinder, if it does not have one already. The Sidewinder will be required to add...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Ram 1500
There is a great option to tow a fifth wheel trailer with your 2017 Ram 1500, and I highly recommend the Curt A20 because it is extremely reliable and easy to use. The correct hitch will depend on if you have a short bed or a long bed; if your '17 Ram 1500 has a 6-1/2 foot bed you will need a sliding hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider # C16541 or if you have a long bed you will need a fixed hitch, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16140. • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For 2015 Ram 1500 With Eco Diesel
When towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has less than an 8 foot bed, clearance issues can arise. Since your Ram has a 6 1/2 foot bed I recommend using a hitch that has a slider base. Whenever you need to make a tight turn it will allow you to slide the hitch back towards the tailgate and give you the clearance needed so the nose won't come in contact with the cab. Since the Reese # RP30047 doesn't have a slider, I wouldn't recommend using it on a short (less than 8') bed truck. I...

Hey Bob! It sounds like you have industry standard rails in there right now. Do they look like the picture below and match those measurements? If so, you can use the Curt E16 # C95DR. However, I recommend getting the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 instead. Not only will this save you a little money, the ride quality and quality of the hitch will be significantly better.

  • Is There a Mopar Puck System For The Factory 5TH Wheel to Fit a 2020 Ram 1500 with 6'4" Bed?
While Ram does not offer a puck system for your 2020 Ram 1500 Jim, I can help you get everything you need to be able to pull your 5th wheel. First you will need a Rail Kit # C16307-204 for a place to attach the 5TH Wheel Hitch # C95DR. And I would also recommend installing a 7-Way # 41157 in your bed to not damage the wiring from extending over your tailgate.

Hi David! We absolutely have kits available for your 2004 Ford F-350 single wheel. The RBW Lil Rocker follows industry standards for what it will fit, which makes it nice and easy. First is the custom Curt kit # C16443-104. This includes everything you need and minimizes drilling during the install. The other option is the B&W # BWRVR3200. • What 5th Wheel Hitch Do I Need For My 2022 Ram Big Horn
I do have a solution for you, but there are quite a few variables. Your 2022 Ram Bighorn is available in all three sizes, 1500, 2500, and 3,500. I am not sure if you have the 5th wheel Load & Towing Groups package or if you have the Ram 1500, so I will recommend two 5th wheel hitches. One that will be compatible with a 5th wheel tow package and one that will not be compatible with that setup. If you have the 2500 or 3500 Big Horn with the 5th wheel tow package, I recommend the following: B&W...

  • How to Choose 5th Wheel Hitch Height for a 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500
The crossmember for your Reese 30031-14K 5th wheel hitch resembles the part # RP58147 on our site. To determine which of the 4 height adjustment options you need to choose for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 really just depends on the height of the king pin on your 5th wheel trailer and where everything needs to be for your trailer to be level. This applies to any 5th wheel hitch/5th wheel trailer towing setup out there. How you choose the correct setting is by parking your Chevy and 5th...

  • Base Rails and Installation Kit Recommendation for 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty
You can easily mount a fifth wheel hitch in your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty and to do that I strongly recommend the B&W Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit for Ford # BWRVK2402 because they do not require any drilling into your truck's frame to install and include galvanic isolators that are going to prevent corrosion in your Ford's aluminum bed. Not having to drill into your truck's frame is not only good for your truck but also reduces the amount of time it takes to install the rails....

  • 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit and Hitch Compatibility with 2013 Toyota Tundra
The 26 inch on center brackets do not make sense to me. The standard 5th wheel base rails are 22 inches by 20-1/2 inches where the majority of hitches fit and in some cases are 22 by 29 inches. The 26 inches makes me think you may have a different style or are measuring in a different location as there aren't hitches I'm aware of with a 26 inch base. My recommendation for your 2013 Toyota Tundra is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches...

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended Hitch to Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2014 Toyota Tundra
The towing capacity of your 2014 Tundra is determined by Toyota, not either dealership. I recommend checking your owner's manual with your truck's specifics. Or you can contact Toyota with your VIN and they should be able to tell you how it came directly from the factory. I looked up a copy of your truck's manual but I'd still look at a printed copy if possible because as you said it has the tow package and 5.7L V8 but the capacity also depends on the bed length and cab style. From what...

I checked with Reese and you are correct, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Outboard Installation Kit # RP56001-53 that you referenced is the correct install kit for your 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 with a 6-1/2 foot bed. Since you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch, for that I recommend the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C95DR.

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2013 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab 4X4 Short Bed
Unless the trailer you plan on towing has either a Sidewinder or a Reese Revolution pin box I can't safely recommend you install a B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200 in your 2013 GMC 2500HD that has a short bed because this is a non-sliding hitch that would not give you enough clearance to make 90 degree turns no matter how it is installed in the bed of your truck. For more information on Sidewinders I attached an FAQ article on them. In that article it will detail how to...

  • How To Tow A 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2017 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew Short Bed 3.5 V6 Engine
The 5th wheel towing capacity for your 2017 Ford F-150 which can be different than the bumper pull towing capacity is 4,900 lbs if you have the 3.55 axle ratio or 7,200 lbs if you have the 3.73 axle ratio. If you do not know what axle ratio you have first check the glove box for a sticker that lists this or call the dealer with your VIN. The 4,900 lb and 7,200 lb towing capacity does not leave an abundance of choices for a 5th wheel trailer however, there are still some available that...

  • 5th Wheel Towing Capacity and Recommendations for 2017 Ford F-150 with 3.5L V6 Engine
Based on the online specs I was able to pull up for the 2017 Ford F-150 it looks like your 4x2 SuperCrew model with the 3.5L GTDI V6 engine and 3.55 axle ratio can pull a 5th wheel trailer that weighs as much as 8,700 pounds at base or up to 10,400 if you have the max trailer tow package. Since you don't think you have this package you are looking at a 5th wheel towing capacity of 8,700 pounds. Since there are so many variables (as you have seen) I also recommend visiting a local Ford...

However, I'd recommend the Curt A16 hitch, part # C16521 over what Reese offers. Unlike the Reese hitch, the Curt A16 offers a torsion articulating system for the hitch head which helps isolate the tow vehicle from road shock and noise. The interlocking hitch jaws hold the king pin much more tightly around its circumference...
