Will The Convert-A-Ball Work With B&W Companion Offset Ball Towing 5TH Wheel Lippert Turning Point?

Updated 06/06/2023 | Published 06/05/2023

Question:

I have a 2014 Dodge RAM 1500 shortbed5’7” with BandW underbed gooseneck hitch and because of massive chucking I’m looking for alternatives to my Anderson gooseneck Hitch in use with a Lippert Turning Point kingpin that’s locked in place. I’m looking at the “Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12 to 16 Tall Item # CAB-C5GX1216” I understand this will greatly reduce the chucking while providing several more inches of offset to make tighter turns. In your video it says this should not be used for beds smaller than 6 feet in length. Does that take my 5’7” truck bed out of using it? Could a 4” offset Ball BWGNXA4685 be used to extend the clearance even more?

Expert Reply:

While the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216 is compatible with the 4" Offset Ball # BWGNXA4685 do note this will void your chassis warranty and possibly any other warranties on your 5th wheel camper. While the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR is also not certified to retain the factory warranty at this time it is a much better option than the Convert-A-Ball for reducing chucking. If not voiding any parts of your warranty is important to you, then you will need to put a set of Rails # C16444-204 in the bed and use a 5TH Wheel Hitch # C16120 that is compatible with the Turning Point pin box.
