Features to know about

Built to Tow Big Loads Smoothly: 16,000 lbs GTW and 4,000 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This heavy-duty 5th-wheel hitch is rated for 16,000 lbs gross towing weight and 4,000 lbs vertical load, giving you a strong base for hauling full-size fifth wheels. The interlocking 2-jaw design wraps completely around the king pin to give you 360-degree contact and better security than a slide-bar setup. That tight fit cuts down on rattle and towing noise, making every mile more stable and predictable. The fully articulating torsion head also helps control movement and road shock for a quieter, smoother ride.

Know Exactly When You're Ready to Tow: 3-Point Color Indicator System

The color-coded lock indicator takes the guesswork out of hitching up. Red means uncoupled, yellow shows it’s ready to couple, and green confirms you’re locked in for towing. You can see the indicator from the cab or beside the truck, so there’s no climbing around to check. After you uncouple, the handle resets itself into the ready-to-couple position automatically, saving time when you’re setting back up.

Turn Sharp Without Worry: Non-Binding S20 Slider with 12" Travel

For tight spots or slow turns, the S20 slider moves the hitch 12" front to back to create extra clearance between your trailer and cab. It slides easily without binding and automatically latches in both directions so you only need to get out of the cab once. That smooth motion makes maneuvering in campgrounds or parking areas easier and helps prevent contact during sharp turns at low speeds.

Remove It Easily When You Need the Bed Clear: One-Pin Head Removal Design

When it’s time to reclaim your truck bed, this hitch comes apart quickly. Pull a single pin and lift off the head—it’s designed so one person can handle removal without special tools. The modular setup keeps weight manageable while still offering sturdy steel construction with a durable carbide powder coat finish for long-lasting strength.

Simple to Maintain for Long Hauls: Built-In Zerk Fittings and Lube Plate

Maintenance is quick thanks to two built-in zerk fittings that make greasing easy. The included plastic lube plate lets your king pin glide smoothly into place during hookup, reducing wear on both components. It’s a practical design that keeps everything moving quietly mile after mile.

Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Replacement Head Unit for Curt A16 and Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches from Curt. So if you're getting this as a replacement head it's gonna function just like your old one. You can see right away It's got the same torsion system that's acting as a sort of cushioning system. When we're hooked up to our trailer it's gonna help us create a smoother ride going down the road with that side to side, front to back and even on the diagonal movement, all absorbing that shock but also helping us with the hookup process by moving and meeting the kingpin as we're guiding it back. The dual jaw system here, they overlap with each other to create really solid contact on the kingpin 360 degrees around.

And if we move over to the side here those jaws can be controlled by the handle secured in place by a pin and clip that can be swapped out for a padlock if you want that security aspect, pulling the handle out and back, we'll open up those jaws or in the coupling mode I've got a dummy king pin here that will slide back in. The open flare here will guide it into position and then as it backs up, we're hooking up to our trailer. The handle will snap back into place fully locked in and we can just resecure it with our pin and clip. Now a good way to know if we're fully coupled is the indicator on the back. You can see it's green right now which means we're positively coupled and good to go.

But if I undo that handle here, partially you'll see it switched to that red and in the fully open position it'll switch to yellow letting us know we're ready to back up to our trailer. And then as we back up that kingpin slides in, it'll swing past that red and when it's fully latched in, go back to green. With the positioning of this, it's easy to see from the cab of the truck so you don't have to get out to check on it. You can just look back there and see if you've got a good couple. With the fifth wheel head here we are gonna have a weight capacity.

It can handle 16,000 pounds of gross trailer weight rating. That's how much weight it can pull and has a vertical load limit, that downward pressure of 4,000 pounds. Be sure to check whether it be the leg kit, the slider base or your truck and go by the lowest rating component in the system but know that that's what the fifth wheel head can handle. You've got your three different points of height adjustment on the side. Again, depending on whether you're using the slider base like we are today or the just regular legs that are fixed, that height may change but you do have three different options for the adjustment.

What I can tell you though is that the whole spacing is 2" apart for each interval of that height adjustment. So just take that into account whenever you're setting this up for your truck and trailer combination. The whole fifth wheel head is gonna be a steel construction with a carbide black powder coat finish over top of it to help it resist rust and corrosion over time. Now with any sort of finished scratches and scuffs can be a danger to it because if you scratch away the finish it's way more susceptible to rust and corrosion over time. It does come included though with a lube plate which will sit between the head of the fifth wheel and your pin box with the kingpin right in the center here and reduce that metal on metal contact to make sure that the finish hopefully lasts a lot longer, keeping your whole fifth wheel looking like new. Speaking of keeping things operating like new you do have two zerk fittings on that dual jaw design here. So you can apply grease regularly to keep them operating smoothly. If you don't wanna leave this in your truck bed full-time and you want to take it out, it can be pretty heavy but you can separate the head into two pieces by taking out that first pin and clip and this large pin that runs through the center of the fifth wheel head. And that will allow us to actually separate the head from the body of the fifth wheel here. So it makes everything a lot lighter and easier to get in and out. And with it out you can see the rubber isolators that are located inside. That's part of the torsion system that we're talking about earlier. And what helps cushion the whole movement here and keep everything operating nice and smoothly as well as reducing noise. Being able to break it down really helps with the installation process because you can do it all on your own relatively easily. So let's go ahead and walk through that process with you now. Now since this is a replacement head you could be replacing it on a standard fifth wheel rather than this slider kit that we're doing this with in which case you'll be needing to use the hardware that came with your fifth wheel originally that bolt, lock washer and flat washer that threads into the legs on your A16 hitch. With that being said, if you are missing these, you will need to get new hardware because the hardware that comes with the replacement head is going to be that bolt and nut. Getting this installed, it might be a little easier to have a second set of hands, but if you can grab it by the center and get one of your bolts started just to help hold it in place on either end, that would be ideal and then we can get the nuts installed later after repeating this on both sides. Now at this point you wanna take your wrench and socket and actually start to tighten these down in all four corners and then we can torque it to the specifications found in our instructions. For the torque wrench, it's pretty easy to rent these out or borrow them but if you wanna get your own you can find those here at etrailer. Just make sure to find the proper torque spec and your instructions and repeat that for the other three bolts. With everything torqued down we can take the head unit and drop it down into place, securing it with the large pin going in through the back of the whole assembly and securing out front with our smaller pin and retaining clip. And that's really all there is to it for the installation process, it's gonna be a very basic easy to use replacement for your A16 or your Q16 fifth wheel hitches. Just deep in mind that if you're replacing one with the standard legs that you do have the appropriate hardware either reusing the old one or getting new hardware. And if you're gonna be dropping it in place in a situation like this with the S20 slider, know that the hardware it comes with is gonna be exactly what you need. But that'll do it for our look at this replacement fifth wheel head for your A16 or your Q16 hitches from Curt. Thanks for watching.

Product was as described. Fit and price were great. Just wish shipping would treat the package as their own. First couple pictures are from damage due to shipper carelessness.

Solid and well built. Installation instructions could have been a little better. I would purchase this again.

Good product but not a very easy install, I have a car hoist, which makes it easier, you need to take off both wheels . If you have arthritis for get it, send to a shop with flexible kids to install. No room to get torque wrench on rail bolts, tighten as best as you can and check them periodically, factory exhaust hanger welded on frame right were Ubolt should go but will work if installed to the rear of it.make sure to note that cab side rails use outside bolt holes and tailgate side rail uses second ones in from both sides.

I installed these rails on my 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500. I saw a lot of people say they had to move the holes toward the front of the truck. I lined up the first rail by the instructions and I only drilled one 1/8" hole in the most forward hole on the drivers side to see how it lined up with the bracket thinking I might have to move the rail forward the hole would not be visible. Yes I had to move the rail 3/4" forward and everything lined up after that. My Curt sliding 16K 5th wheel drops in and out nice and easy. These rails are 45" in length and lighter than the Reese 48" rails that I am use to using. I highly recommend these rails if you need to keep the weight in the bed of your truck to a minimum.

Install was probably double the time it say, and that was with a lift and all legit snap on mechanics tools, instructions are kinda vague is some places and you have to use your best judgment but a good product regardless,

Carriage bolts sent with kit did not work for me can only get open end wrench by frame had to get bolts so that the bolt can be tightened from up above. And only had to drill hole in frame for break hanger

I like the rails and it was worth the money to get ones that the holes match up to my truck and I didn't have to make new holes. Thank you etrailer.
by:
It fit the way it was supposed to fit and performs how it was intended. Great design! It could have have a few more instructions but we figured it out. Took two of us 3 hours to install.
by:
Easy install, finish on the rails is rugged and hasn't scraped or chipped in my pickup bed.

After a year, the rails still look like new and the brackets against the frame still look new with the original coating. The bolts under the truck have some surface rust but I live in MN so that is expected. The bolts in the bed still have their zinc coating.

Poorly designed kit.
I've installed several rail kits over the years in other trucks and this is the worst one I've had to deal with. I watched their inline video and tried to follow their instructions. It is supposed to take between 1 and 2 hr. to install, try 5 with 2 people. The worst thing is the way it is attached to the the frame rails. They use U bolts around the frame and a 1/2" bolt in a current 1" oval hole. The only thing bearing the load of the hitch shifting from front to back is the holes drilled in the thin sheet metal of the box. Spot welding it to the frame or drilling an other hole is the only way I see to guaranty it doesn't shift. I should have bought the competitors universal kit.

  • What Custom 5th Wheel Brackets and Rails do I Need for My 2012 Chevrolet Silverado?
Hello Valerie, Thanks for writing in! I actually have a better solution for you. Technically, the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit # C16200 will work with your 2012 Chevy Silverado, but being a universal kit, the installation is going to be a lot more involved than it needs to be. Instead, I recommend going with a custom-fit installation kit. If you have a Silverado 1500, you will want the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16400-204. If you have a...

I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 engine and 3.08 axle ratio and it lists a maximum trailer weight of 6,500 pounds if you have the 2WD model or 6,200 pounds if you have 4WD. The fifth wheel hitch installation kit used on your 2006 Silverado isn't compatible with your 2015 Silverado, I'm sorry to say. This is because of the differences in the truck frame that occurred in the 2007 model year. If your 2008 GMC Sierra is a 1500 or a 2500 Light Duty then you can use Curt installation kit # C16400-204. If it is a 2500HD or a 3500 then use # C16418-204. • Will Curt Universal Base Rail Kit Fit a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500
The only Curt 5th wheel base rail kit that is compatible with your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 is the Kit # C16400-204 which uses custom mounting brackets. If you are wanting a universal rail kit then I recommend the Reese Kit # RP30035 instead. The Curt option would be easier to install as you wouldn't have to drill into the frame of your pickup. The Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # 16055 is compatible with either of the base rail kit options mentioned above. You may also be interested...

  • Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch Frame Brackets for 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
We do offer brackets to fit your truck. The Curt # C16418 brackets you had looked at are meant for a 2007-2010 Chevy 2500 or 3500 truck, and wouldn't work with your 2017 Silverado 1500. For the brackets only, for your truck you'd need # C16400 which provides the frame brackets and the mounting hardware for the frame brackets or for the complete kit that also provides the bed rails and the hardware to attach the rails to the frame brackets, you'd need part # C16400-204

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Install Kit for 2012 Toyota Tundra
The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # C16468-204, will fit your 2012 Toyota Tundra with the 6-1/2ft bed. Since you have a short bed truck, I strongly recommend using a sliding fifth wheel hitch. Typically, short bed...

  • Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2019 Nissan Titan w/ Factory Prep Package
Hey Kevin! Curt doesn't make a sliding hitch with a base that attaches directly to your Nissan's gooseneck puck system so you'll need to start with the Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter for Nissan Titan XD OEM 5th Wheel Towing Prep Package item # DM6200. This drops down into your gooseneck puck and gives a standard base rail set up. Then you can add any 5th wheel hitch that is compatible with industry standard rails. I looked up your truck's towing capacity and I think the best Curt hitch for...

  • Is Height of Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch For 2023 Ram 2500 From Top of Base Rails
Hi Gary, Good question, and the height of the sliding 5th wheel hitches for your 2023 Ram 2500 short bed are taken from the top of the bed rails. So for example, the outstanding Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ S20 Slider # C23DR has a height of 17-1/2 - 21-1/2 inches, and that height is taken from the top of the base rails to the top of the 5th wheel hitch.

  • Hitch & 5th Wheel Capacity for 2016 Silverado 2500 Short Bed, 6.0L Engine, & Prep Package
