Replacement Trailer Left Turn Signal/Brake Light Relay for a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
Question:
My father-in-law has a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. His Left turn signal and break signal doesnt work on the trailer. On the vehicle side it works find but not on the trailer. If I hook up the trailer to my vehicle it works fine. Ive trace it back to the 4 way connector and use a multi-meter to check for 12 volts but no voltage present on the second port from the top down. Ive checked the first port right turn/brake signal and i get the 12 volt with no problem. Then I did a continuity test from the 2nd port all the way to where it was connected to. Then I checked the other connector and still not getting any left/break signal from there. Then the wires goes inside the car. Ive read that it goes to several relay underneath the seat and some under the hood. Ive also read the brown and blue relay in the fuse box underneath hood could be the corporate or the one underneath which seat in the truck? I see the fuse box is label with the words Towing on two places, is this the correct spot? What about the ones underneath the seats?...thank you l

I don't think there are any relays under the seat of a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder but there could be some behind the kick panel on the passenger's side, front. The relay that is missing or blown is likely one of the blue relays from the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. The easiest way to determine if a relay is bad is to use a known good relay in place of a potential bad one. The relays for the tow package turn signals/brake lights are under the hood. If the right turn signal one is working, try putting it in place of the left turn signal one to see if that heals it.

I have recently had the no left turn trailer light inoperable issue also. I found a short in my boat tailer wiring and fixed same. I discovered that the left turn trailer light connector at the factory installed 4 pin flat connector did not have power so I looked everywhere for a blown fuse to no avail. I speculated that it may be a relay. At that point I decided to use the Curt conversion kit to make it a 7 pin receptacle. After attempting installation of the new receptacle kit and plugging the new relays behind the kick panel, I was a little confused that there where not any relays in that location. After connecting same to the wiring harness, I not only did not have a left turn trailer light, but the window and door lock did not work on the front passenger side. I removed the new relays and reconnected the wire harness and the window and door lock worked again. I then tried changing out the relays in the engine compartment where the labeling on the cover was illegible to no avail. After further research I found out that my Pathfinder was an early edition for 2005 which was a first model change and it did not have the relays in the engine compartment. I appears this was changed for the later models Apparently that circuit is controlled in the BCM on my vehicle. I purchased a replacement BCM and installed same and it still did not fix the problem. Apparently the kit is not for all 2005 Pathfinders. I finally install an OEM 7 pin conversion hoping I would be able find the problem knowing it was all factory installed equipment. I have the same result. No left trailer signal light. I'm wondering if anyone else has run across this situation. tracing the wires in the wiring seems a little overwhelming. Thanks Tom P.
