Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.
To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.
To adjust your weight-distribution head assembly to the correct angle, insert the included rivet and up to 8 washers into a 1/2-inch hole in the "U" on your head assembly. Use the smallest number of washers necessary to achieve the correct downward angle for the spring bars. Each washer lowers the chain ends of your spring bars by approximately 1-1/2 inches. Once the correct angle is reached, use the included bolts, serrated washers and nuts to lock the unit into place.
The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight-distribution head and are secured with built-in, spring-bar locking devices for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and forged steel construction, these bars flex to ensure a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer.
The integrated friction-style sway control of the Pro Series system reduces trailer sway caused by winds, winding roads and sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install, simply bolt the sway-control ball plate to the A-frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight-distribution hitch - drilling required. The ball plate mounts to the side of the trailer frame so it will not interfere with gas tanks, toolboxes or generators.

Today in this trailer, we are going to install part number PS49903. First step is to go ahead and get our truck and trailer in straight line, then well disconnect the truck and trailer and then well go ahead and level off the trailer then we can start work on the weight distribution and our measurement from the top cup down to the ground is going to be 20 inches. Well write that down and then we will go on to the truck. At the top of the fender well at the rear axle is going to be 37-1/4 inches and at the front axle to the top of the wheel well will be 34-7/8. Ideally, we want the front to stay the same and maybe have the back settle about an inch at the most. Now this obviously will vary from truck to truck and from truck and trailer combinations.
To start off our install well go ahead and install the shank into the hitch. Well install pin and clip to secure it. First, well mark off our height that we need to set the ball at and account for vehicle squat we are going actually raise the ball up one inch. Then well install the head assembly with the ball already installed onto the shank and well match it up to that mark as close as possible. On the inside of the head, theres a pin that we had to add some washers to that will provide tilt for the head assembly to go back towards the trailer and apply pressure on the spring bars.
Now this will vary from trailer to trailer and vehicle to vehicle. We are going to start off with four washers. Well go ahead, and bolt the head assembly to the shank and then loosely install all the hardware. Now well tighten up the bolt at the bottom that way to help bring the top of the head of the assembly up snag against the shank and provide the proper angle we need. Then we go ahead and tighten down the bolts that go through the shank and the head assembly.
Well tightened them and torque those down as specified in the instructions. With our trailer back on the hitch, ball well go ahead and raise the truck and trailer back up and then we can go ahead, and install one of the spring bars and then line up the chain bracket. To install the spring bar we will go ahead and slide it up from the bottom, make sure it clicks in the place and then well take our chain thats already been installed in the spring bar and pull it up vertical in a straight line and then align our bracket with it. Once we have the bracket and alignment in chain well go ahead and tighten down the snap up screw on the backside. Well do that on both sides.
At this point, well go ahead and attach our spring bars to the snap up brackets we just installed. Well go ahead and lower the yoke on the snap up bracket until its parallel with the ground and slipped the closest link over to the hook and when we do this we want to keep at least five links between the hook and the u-bolt and then well go ahead and check to see how the spring bars are properly aligned with the frame. Now you want your spring bars pointing slightly down or level with the frame. As you pointing up again well have to take the head assembly apart, add some more washers and tilt the head assembly down then reassemble. Once we have, the chains hooked up well go ahead, and lower our truck and trailer and check our alignment with the spring bars with the frame. With every thing hooked up, well go ahead and check measurements again like we did at the beginning. It looks like the front axle stayed about the same and the back axle settled about one inch which is about right. So that all looks good now well go ahead and move on to the installation of the anti-sway control. Now we took the sway ball and mounted it up to the side of the frame temporarily. So, well go ahead, and measure up and make sure they stay at the correct spot. We are going to measure from the center of the hitch ball to the center of our sway control ball it does come out to the right measurements, 24 inches. However, two of the boltholes going towards the back trailer do not line up properly. Once you are going to reinstall the old sway ball in its place. However, when you install the old anti-sway ball we will sue new hardware. Well take the self-tapping bolts and the star washers, attach them and then reinstall them into the trailer frame. All right now go ahead and add on the anti-sway bar. Well apply a little of grease to the mounting points. Well go ahead, and add the sway bar on top and install the safety pins and after that all we need to do is go ahead and take it to the test drive, make sure everything works properly and if the sway control doesnt get into a bind on sharp turns. That will finish it for our install part number PS49903.

Great hitch for the money. I pull a 6500 pound travel trailer with a Yukon Denali and it tows beautiful even with out the sway control. Using the provided instructions I was able to get everything set up properly in about an hour and two tries of hooking everything up before I finally torqued everything. I wish the snap up brackets had a little more hook on them to hold the chains in place while snapping them up, sometimes they fall off when prying up on them. Another complaint was that the sway control plate that mounted to my trailer was missing, but chances are this won't happen to you. I contacted E-trailer and that same day the part was shipped to me at no cost. E-trailer is great I have only positive things to say about them.50009

I just installed the weight distribution hitch last night. It seems well made and of excellent quality; however, the installation instructions were poorly written at best. I had to back up and start over a couple of times. And that's after reading the instructions at least twice and watching a "not too well done" utube video. Overall I would recommend this hitch to anyone that has a little mechanical ability and good skills for reading between the lines.79375

Couldn't believe the customer service from etrailer, got my hitch 2 days after I ordered and the quality of the equalizer hitch is top quality also. pulled my car trailer to the track and it pulled like a dream , no more bouncing up and down any more.
