Pro Series Weight Distribution diagram

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Unique Features of Pro Series Round-Bar Weight Distribution

Pro Series Weight Distribution adjustable head from top and side

To adjust your weight-distribution head assembly to the correct angle, insert the included rivet and up to 8 washers into a 1/2-inch hole in the "U" on your head assembly. Use the smallest number of washers necessary to achieve the correct downward angle for the spring bars. Each washer lowers the chain ends of your spring bars by approximately 1-1/2 inches. Once the correct angle is reached, use the included bolts, serrated washers and nuts to lock the unit into place.

Pro Series Weight Distribution round spring bar locking devices

The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight-distribution head and are secured with built-in, spring-bar locking devices for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and forged steel construction, these bars flex to ensure a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer.

Friction Sway Control

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on trailer framePro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on hitch head

The integrated friction-style sway control of the Pro Series system reduces trailer sway caused by winds, winding roads and sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install, simply bolt the sway-control ball plate to the A-frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight-distribution hitch - drilling required. The ball plate mounts to the side of the trailer frame so it will not interfere with gas tanks, toolboxes or generators.

Video Transcript for Pro Series Weight Distribution PS49903 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number PS49903. This is the Pro Series Weight Distribution System with the Friction Sway Control. This system is going to evenly distribute the tongue weight to the axles of the tow vehicle and trailer for stability and control. That's just going to create a more level ride for both the tow vehicle and the trailer. The friction sway control system just reduces the sway caused by winds, curving roads and those sudden maneuvers that you just can't avoid sometimes. This is adjustable so the tension can be adjusted. That's going to let you create the perfect degree of control of resistance. It's going to feature the integrated handle that's going to engage and disengage the system and it's removable as well, so that's a great feature.

All you have to do is release the two spring-loaded locking pins, which are these right here, that hold it in place. The bracket's going to mount to the trailer frame so the friction sway control system is going to run parallel with the frame of the trailer. This end's going to go up there on that little ball and then this portion is going to mount to the trailer. That's going to lock into place there and then at each ball location, so you have two, one down here, one up here. That's where you're going to install the locking pins. It's also got the spacer block that you can install as well.

It's got the self-tacking bolts as well as the star washers to get it nice and secure and installed correctly. It's going to have the round forged steel spring bars that are tapered for superior flexibility. These bars will flex appropriately over uneven terrain for a controlled, even ride. It's also going to feature adjustable spring bar tension. All you've got to do is just switch the links in the lift chains. That's going to allow you to fine tune the system for your particular application. The head is also able to tilt.

All you have to do is . I already have it installed but right inside this portion here . and you can see the pin right here. This is just a rivet that I have installed and that rivet can have more washers added to it. That's just going to allow the head to be able to tilt as needed for your particular application.

You can add the washers in there or you can remove them, again, depending on your particular applications. It's also got the bolts here with the serrated washers and it's got the nuts on the other side. Once you get the tilt adjusted as needed, you just tighten down those nuts on the other side and it's going to hold it securely in place. This does come with the solid steel shank. It has a nice powder-coated finish on it so it's going to stand up well against rust and corrosion. That is designed for weight distribution so that's going to be exactly what you need. That is adjustable, so it has numerous mounting locations on it. It's got the long shank. It's also going to come with a 5/8-inch pin. It's going to come with a clip as well so you can secure that inside your hitch. It is designed to fit 2-inch x 2-inch trailer hitch receivers. The system is going to include the head assembly, the adjustable shank, the lift brackets, the round bars, the lift chains. It's going to come with all the pins and the clips that you need. It's also going to come with the friction sway control, 2-5/16-inch hitch ball and all the necessary hardware to get everything installed. This right here is just a shim. I don't want you to be confused when you get this. This is a shim and some of the later trunnion and rombar 00:03:36 -style weight distribution heads have a slightly wider spread between the ears that bolt up to the trailer bar which is this portion here. You can actually use the shim provided to fill any gap between the weight distribution head and the hitch bar used. You can see that it has the two holes. That way you can run your bolts through there and get that in there nice and snug. Tongue weight capacity is going to be 750 pounds to 1000 pounds with a gross towing weight of 10,000 pounds. Again, this is designed to fit 2-inch x 2-inch trailer hitch receivers that are designed for use with a weight distribution system. The shank link, which is going to be this portion back here, that's going to give us a measurement of 12-1/2 inches. It's going to give us a maximum rise of 6 inches from the top of the hitch receiver opening and a maximum drop of 2 inches, so that way you have full adjustability to fit this how you need it for your application. The hitch ball dimensions, diameter is going to be 2-5/16 of an inch. The shank length is going to measure 2-1/2 inches and then our shank diameter is 1-1/4. One of the things that you have to keep in mind is that when determining the proper weight rating for a rate distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight and then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Combining those two measurements will make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system. Getting the wrong weight distribution system can sometimes even make it a rougher ride and not necessarily perform what it needs to for that nice even ride. You want to be sure that you get the weight distribution that's going to match up with those two weights combined. That way you can ensure proper weight distributing for your application. These right here are going to mount to the frame of the trailer. You've got the bolts already installed there. All you've got to do is tighten those up so that fits nicely over there. If we take a measurement of the gap in between there so we know what size frame this is going to fit, from inside to inside is going to give us a measurement of about 3 inches. That's also where the chains connect. You can see that there. This right here is just a leverage bar. When you have this hooked up, it's really hard to control this by using your hands so it comes with a leverage bar. Put over there, it's going to allow you to get some leverage. That way you can control that as necessary and properly get everything attached the way that you need it to. I believe that's going to do it for our review of part number PS49903. This is the Pro Series Weight Distribution System with Friction Sway Control. .

Customer Service when ordering was very helpful and knowledgeable of the product. Delivery was fast and arrived in good condition with all parts. Installation was easy for the most part with the exception of the torque requirements and the proper tilting of the head. I took me approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to install and level. The test ride was great with no more bouncing and bucking. This was installed on a Chevy Silverardo 2006 long bed and a 2013 26foot Skycat. I would buy from and recommend etrailer.com. Regards Tom S 91098

Had the product for a year now and have had no problems with it. I would recommend this product to a friend. Great product for the price and customer service was great.

The product was of high quality and cheaper than i could find in local stores. The free shipping on this item due to price made the choice a no brainer. All items shipped complete with instructions and on time as promised. The tracking information was very helpful and precise. I will be happy to order other products from e-trailer in the future. 78874

After a year of use the product is still functioning as if new. I use the complete system with the anti sway when pulling my 25 toy hauler full of water, gas, and my ranger. I couldnt be happier with the product. With the instructions I was able to set up the system correctly the first time without having to make any more adjustments.

I did extensive research on the product before buying; got, by far, the best price from etrailer and with free shipping, it was a no-brainier. Shipping was lightning fast, delivered right to my door with everything in perfect condition. This is my fifth time buying products from etrailer and I have been 100% satisfied every time. You definitely can shop with them with confidence; I highly recommend them and simply will not shop anywhere else for my towing needs. The Pro Series set-up is perfect for towing my 5000 lbs travel trailer with my 2009 Chevy Tahoe; it creates a safe even tow that you can immediately feel especially on the interstate at higher speeds. Set up took a little while but the online video gives easy step by step instructions that guide you through the process. The product is very rugged and has top notch quality comparable to other models at double the price. Awesome product, great price, fast shipping, excellent customer service; simply a perfect transaction. Thank you, etrailer! 93171

Received order in a very prompt manner, (regardless of the weather problems on your end). Installation went as instructed with all parts included. Test drive was uneventful and could feel the improvement from the cab of truck..Looking forward to vacation time and not having to fight the sway caused by the big trucks on the freeway and the heavy tongue weight. 68373

My opinion hasnt changed. Have traveled over 4500 miles towing the trailer and it has increased my gas milage 2mpg. The big rigs dont blow me off the road when they pass me at 75 mph either. Would highly recommend it to any body towing a rig...

Good solid assembly. Very pleased, overall. Bridget was very helpful, to insure that I got the right assembly. She is very knowledgeable, and is Enthusiastic about the product. I will buy more from this company. 141699

Still after a year, its still good as new. Works well, and I have told my friends with campers, about it. This same hitch was offered to me installed by the camper dealer for $750. It was easy to set up, and am very pleased. Have been to Florida, with it as well as Maine. GREAT PRODUCT !!!!!!!

I ordered this product based on the ratings primarily. I had planned to be at my in-laws two hours away from home for a few day, happened to be the same town that I purchased my new camp trailer in. I ordered the hitch and chose to have it shipped there, thinking I would intercept it, install it, and pull my new trailer home with it. Turns out delivery took longer than I anticipated (not longer than etrailer quoted so my own fault). I was able to call customer service, and have them re-route the delivery to my home. Way to go ETrailer!! Installation was a bit tough at first trying to go off of the dismal directions provided by the manufacturer. I jumped on etrailer.com and found a video on installation of this exact hitch. It was just what I needed, and installation was a snap after that. Excellent product, very robust, and I was surprised at how much difference the hitch made in the squat of my 1/2 GMC pickup. I definitely needed this hitch for safe towing of my 22' 4400lb camper. 136148

This is the first time I have towed a large trailer with my truck. I purchased this product with the hopes it would make towing feel like there was nothing behind my truck, I was not disappointed! I would recommend this product to anyone who has to tow a travel trailer behind their vehicle, it was also a great price. 125139

After 1yr my feelings about this product hasnt changed 1 bit. This was a great purchase at a great price.

We originally drove our new trailer home using just a regular ball and hitch. My husband drove the trailer home I followed in our car. Oh my that was a scary sight to watch. It was far from level. In fact it was more of a V shape between the two. Because this is our first travel trailer, we had never heard of a weight distribution system. We scoped out websites and watched many YouTube videos. We both agreed the Pro Series WDS with FSC was the ticket. It also was much more affordable that some we looked at. We read the instruction but what was more beneficial was the videos from etrailer.com Wow what a difference in the ride. Its interesting to watch other TT go down the road, some are not properly installed. Darn. If we ever get the chance to talk to others we will recommend the etrailer.com and for them to watch the video. GREAT PRODUCT GREAT PRICE!!! Way-to-go guys you did a great job! 95706

Have only used it once but it worked great. My 1/2 ton dodge didnt squat at all. Not a big fan of the sway control. its kind of noisy and just one more thing you have to worry about. 142780

Still use this product every time we tow the camper. It still works like the day we bought it. I only used the sway control on the first trip, now I just carry it with us in case we hit some bad side wind.

Working well for us . Just one suggestion make a hook up for the chain on the trailer that holds the chain on better so that it can't snap back towards your fingers while you put the tension on. 138425

There is not enough of a lip to hold the chain on when you are putting it on. Other than that I like how they have been working for me.

I ordered this product with free shipping. About a week later it was on my front porch. Everything was in the box with ok instructions. I was replacing another similar unit and knew how to assemble it, but the instructions are not clear on how to properly adjust the sway control. I did a shake down drive, made a few adjustment and left on a thee month trip with my 30' travel trailer. I have now traveled about four hundred miles with the new Weight Distribution System and it is much superior to my older system. The only reason I do not rate it EXCELLENT, is the poor assembly and adjusting brochure that came with the unit. Watch the online video on assembly which is more informative. Would I buy from etrailer again, YES I would. The product was everything they said it would be. 88281

After having towed my new trailer (5900lbs dry) home from the dealer (125 miles) without a weight distributing hitch I knew I had to get a system on this ASAP. I have purchased from Etrailer in the past with great results so I ordered The PS49903 system. FREE and fast shipping is just a bonus! The box arrived in about 4 days to So. California. Having watched the install video prior to putting this on made it a snap. Took about 2 hours from start to finish. Fit and finish on all the parts was as expected and everything fit great. This product does as claimed. Leveled the truck and trailer and made a DRAMATIC difference when towed for the first time. Settled the truck and just felt much more stable on the road. I highly recommend this system!! 168827

Great hitch for the money. I pull a 6500 pound travel trailer with a Yukon Denali and it tows beautiful even with out the sway control. Using the provided instructions I was able to get everything set up properly in about an hour and two tries of hooking everything up before I finally torqued everything. I wish the snap up brackets had a little more hook on them to hold the chains in place while snapping them up, sometimes they fall off when prying up on them. Another complaint was that the sway control plate that mounted to my trailer was missing, but chances are this won't happen to you. I contacted E-trailer and that same day the part was shipped to me at no cost. E-trailer is great I have only positive things to say about them. 50009

Product is more then I expected. Complete system, beefy and strong. I have not installed just yet, after reading over the install directions, it would appear easy with the proper tools. Customer service was excellent. I had a question concerning the tracking, I had a very quick response, which is important to me, since good customer service is hard to find anymore. After install, and I pull my camper trailer, I hope there is an area I can do a follow up review. I will recommend etrailer to anyone who might need a good system at a great price. So far... No complaints! Kinda a pain to get set up and adjusted for the first use but with the help of a tech at the tv dealer it wasn't too bad... Jumped right on the highway and my Chevy 1500 hauled my new 32.5' travel trailer wonderfully, no sway, bounce or anything, price was awesome compared to my local suppliers and delivery was as they said it would be right on time.... One of the most pleasant online purchases I've had in a long time. Two thumbs up for product, procedure and delivery!!!!!!! 181311

My package arrived as scheduled and ,boy, was I surprised when I bent over to pick it up...Believe me, this baby is WELL MADE! The step-by-step instructions are easy to follow, but you should set aside about an hour to an hour and a half to complete the installation. I have not had a chance to evaluate the hitch on the highway yet, but do not expect any surprises or disappointments. This product appears to be WELL WORTH the bargain price. I highly recommend it to anyone who is about to tow. 137556

After checking and finding that local RV dealers were selling this WD hitch from $470 to $500 and finding the same hitch on etrailer for less with sway control and free shipping I couldn't go wrong ordering it. Great customer service and the hitch is extremely well built and sturdy. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a quality weight distribution hitch at a great price and from great online service provider. I will be doing future business with etrialer.com for sure. 114515

First off 2 thumbs up for customer service. I called and received excellent advice helping me choose the right wdh. Just used for the first time this past weekend. It made a big difference in stability and sway control. I pull a 26 foot travel trailer with my 2013 F150 supercrew. Before it was quite bouncy, but the wdh really does a great job. Took about 45 minutes to setup. Instructions are pretty good and I found a video on youtube for this specific model. Highly recommend etrailer.com. 131437

Couldn't believe the customer service from etrailer, got my hitch 2 days after I ordered and the quality of the equalizer hitch is top quality also. pulled my car trailer to the track and it pulled like a dream , no more bouncing up and down any more. Well worth the money which I might add is half the price of any local dealer around here. Directions of installation kind of sucked but the video they have was excellent. Great Product . Going to order air bags system this winter. 52193

Excellent trailer at an awesome price. I had been pricing used hitches online and called Etrailer and I'm glad I did. I learned why getting the right hitch is important and how important it is to match tongue weight with the correct leveling bars, and the price was right for a new hitch. I have bought from etrailer for a few years and I have always been more than satisfied with their customer service and good products. Excellent retailer I will continue to buy from them. 173627

I just installed the weight distribution hitch last night. It seems well made and of excellent quality; however, the installation instructions were poorly written at best. I had to back up and start over a couple of times. And that's after reading the instructions at least twice and watching a "not too well done" utube video. Overall I would recommend this hitch to anyone that has a little mechanical ability and good skills for reading between the lines. 79375

Bought it to tow a #7500 loaded tandem trailer with a 2008 Ram 1500. Everything was shipped in one package in about 3 days. Directions were adequate to install but didn't say much about mounting the plates the chains hook to. The binders are a bit tricky to hook to the chains and lock in place. Once hooked I had no problems with the setup and felt confident towing at hwy speed. Even towed better than a small 12' cargo trailer! 150612

I purchased this WDH and installed it myself because the dealer wanted $250 (quoted two hours). I had to drive a few hours to the dealer and install the WDH on the lot myself. After studying up on the great install video from etrailer and instruction guide, it took me no more than 45 mins tops to install! Etrailer shipped it fast and had zero problems. Been purchasing things from them for a few years now. Highly recommended. 56703

I will be using it late next week. But I am familiar with these hitchs as I used to deliver trailers out of northern Indiana for a while. I have to say, in just looking at this hitch, for the money it is an outstanding product. I have no doubt that it will stand up to years of use. I am going to send you a picture when I am using it at a later date. Needless to say, I am very please with it and your quick service. Thanks 146177

I debated between the equalizer and this hitch. I went with this because the price was less than half the price of the equalizer. I was extremely happy with the purchase. It is complete kit, seems very durable, and it has performed flawlessly on my first few tows. The only con if any is the hitch assembly is heavy. E-Trailer has the best prices, great customer service, and order to delivery was 4 days, cant beat that. 110027

Product was exactly what I have been searching for. A local Camping World wants over $500 for this same unit so found it here for half the price. Towing this on my 06 Silverado crew cab and 28 foot Terry travel trailer. Really does improve the towing ability. Only took about 30-45 minutes to install and can be done with one person. Excellent product at an excellent price. Will be shopping here again! 220016

The weight distribution system installed easily, performs as it should, and looks good. It increased my towing capabilities for my car carrier and cargo trailers. The only problem I had was the shipping container. It arrived shredded and torn probably due to the weight of the contents. The packaging should be more heavy duty to keep all the components safe inside and not fall out. Great product. 163539

Product arrived timely and as expected. Instructions were very clear, as well as videos found on eTrailer's website. The installation went flawlessly and works perfectly on my truck and trailer. The only issue I ran into was not having a "cheater" bar to adjust the chains into the right position. That will be easily resolved by buying a short piece of pipe at the hardware store. 46613

I got my weight distribution hitch in a reasonable time. I don't think the ups guy was very happy because it was heavy. It was very easy to put together. It was helpful to me after watching the video about how to install it. I haven't taken it on a trip yet but I am confident it will work just fine. If you are looking for a weight distribution hitch, I would recommend this one. 175433

I don't think the instruction sheet is easy to follow. maybe, there should be more photos, and close ups of certain instructions. I also think spring bar tension lever should have a different design chain fastener. it is hard to try and put the chain on while pulling up on the bar. The unit is well made, and I hope it works well for my needs. 221114

  • Choosing Weight Distribution System for 10,000 lb Capacity Deck Over Trailer Towed By Ford F150
  • The first step in choosing the correct weight distribution (W/D) system is to determine the actual as-towed tongue weight of your trailer. Anything stowed in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle should be included as tongue weight. For best performance, the tongue weight of the trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the system you choose. The Pro Series Weight Distribution System you mention is designed to operate most effectively with tongue...

Since you are not able to confirm your tongue weight, please understand that anything I recommend will merely be an educated guess. I would recommend going with a 1,200 lb max capacity system to provide some cushion, since actual ready-to-roll tongue weight is not known. It...
