  • During my research for your vehicle, I found that in the owner's manual it states that you should never tow a trailer page #202. This means that the hitch is intended to transport items like a bike rack or cargo carrier. See page #195 for more information about this. If you decide to tow anyways you will need a hitch, wiring, a ball mount, and ball to tow a trailer. The Draw-Tite hitch # 24872, you were looking at will be a fit for your 2014 Ford Focus. There are ball mounts like...

  • Carriage Bolts Wont Fit Through Frame Access Holes When Installing Hitch # 24872 on 2014 Ford Focus
  • According to the installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24872, you should use a file to enlarge the frame access hole on your 2014 Ford Focus. You will want to enlarge the hole just enough to get the hardware through. I have attached a snapshot of the instructions with this section highlighted. We do not recommend altering or modifying the mounting hardware in any way.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Will Not Slide All the Way in Receiver on 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback
  • You have a Class I trailer hitch and what you are describing is a stop that was intentionally punched in the receiver of the hitch. It is there to prevent the use of Class II accessories that could lead to the hitch being overloaded. Your bike rack must be a Class II only 1-1/4 inch rack. If you want to use a bike rack then you have to make sure it is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. • Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Focus Sedan
  • Since you plan on towing a small trailer you will want a draw bar so the Draw-Tite part # 24872 would be your best choice. You will need drawbar number 3593. The drawbar will insert into the hitch and will provide the attachment point for the hitch to the trailer. You will also need a hitch ball to complete the connection. For that you would want the part # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball or part # 19258 for a 2 inch hitch ball. For trailer wiring you would want part # 118548. I attached...

  • Can a Class I Trailer Hitch for 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback be Used to Carrier 100 lb Electric Scooter
  • All of the trailer hitches available for your 2014 Ford Focus hatchback are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers like you said. Provided the combined weight of the carrier used and the electric scooter does not exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch such as # 24872 (200 pounds) you will be good to go. The carrier also has to be rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. This will limit the options and none of the compatible carriers will have a ramp so you would need to...

  • Determining Version of Ford 2014 Focus Hatchback for Confirming Hitch Fit
  • The ST sport version of Ford's 2014 Focus Hatchback has an upgraded engine, a 2.3L version taken from the Mustang. If you have doubts about which version you have simply contact any Ford dealer with the car's VIN and they can look up its equipment and confirm if you have the ST version. All hitches made for the car, shown on the linked page, are the light-duty Class I type and all share identical weight ratings. For the ST use Curt hitch # C11431. If you do NOT have the ST Hatchback...

  • Why Is Heat Shield Trimming Required for Hitch Installation on 2014 Ford Focus
  • It is not too unusual for trimming of a vehicle heat shield to be required when installing an aftermarket hitch like the Draw-Tite # 24872 that fits your 2014 Ford Focus. In some cases simply bending the shield can be enough but in other cases the part is best trimmed and then re-installed. This can vary since the positioning of vehicle exhaust hangers is not exact from one car to another; these hangers are positioned and welded by hand on the assembly line so their position, and so the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Towing Setup Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Focus SE
  • Grab your owners manual for your 2014 Ford Focus and it will have the towing capacities/restrictions for the vehicle listed there. The # 24872 hitch that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit for your 2014 Ford Focus and has a 2,000 lb trailer towing capacity. But that doesn't necessarily mean your vehicle has the same capacity. Overall towing capacities are only as strong as the weakest component. So you would need to go with the lowest rated component as an overall capacity. For...

  • Trailer Hitch and Towing Components Needed for 2014 Ford Focus
  • The towing capacities of a vehicle are typically very conservatively figured so as long as you are staying under the capacity of your 2014 Ford Focus you'd be totally fine. For your 2014 Ford Focus the Draw Tite hitch part # 24872 would be the hitch to go with. This fits sedans and hatchback models too. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118549 for if you have a hatchback or part # 118548 for if you have a sedan. Tekonsha wiring kits are the most reliable so they are what we...

  • Choosing a Ball Mount for Use with Curt Hitch # C11158 on 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback
  • The Curt Class I trailer hitch you referenced, part # C11158, is indeed a correct choice for your 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback. As noted in the linked installation video at the 18-second mark, the top of the receiver opening will be approximately 10-3/4-inches above the ground once installed. With this hitch you will need to use one of the ball mounts recommended by Curt. The hitch comes with a choice of sizes of matching Euro style ball mount. For the hitch and 1-7/8-inch ball order...

  • Can a Trailer Hitch be Installed on a 2014 Focus Hatchback with Full Body Styling Kit
  • I spoke with the contact at Draw-Tite regarding hitch # 24827. They cannot guarantee fit of the hitch on the 2014 Focus hatchback with the full body styling kit but I do now how we can figure it out. Measure from the bottom of the frame where the lower attachment points on the hitch would go (using the instructions linked as a guide) down 4-7/8 inches. If none of the fascia goes lower than that the hitch will fit. If it will interfere then there are no hitches that will fit.

  • Bike Rack and Trailer Hitch Recommendations for a 2013 Ford Focus
  • Taking your criteria into consideration I would recommend a hitch and hitch mounted bike rack for your 2013 Ford Focus. The reason I am offering the hitch solution is because by having a hitch it gives you options for towing in the future such as a hitch cargo carrier. If you need a hitch for your vehicle I have the following suggestion: Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for the 2013 Ford Focus, part # 24872 because not only is it easy to install. This is a 1-1/4 inch hitch. I have attached a...

I do have a solution for you. I recommend a trunk mount bike carrier like the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top, part # HRF2. This bike carrier is designed for vehicles that have spoilers. This bike rack has adjustable arms that help keep the bikes level and it fold down for easy storage. Another rack I recommend...

On page 217 of the 2013 Ford Focus owners manual Ford cautions to never tow a trailer with this vehicle. Your vehicle is not equipped to tow and no towing packages are available. We cannot make any recommendations that would contradict what Ford states about the towing capabilities of any vehicle.

If you are wanting to use a Class II only accessory in this hitch I can't recommend it, but I can say that the hitch does not have the weld stop.
