Can Sway-Control Kit Be Used When Flat-Towing Jeep Wrangler
Updated 11/17/2014 | Published 11/15/2014 >
Question:
I have a Smittybilt tow bar that I use to tow my Jeep Wrangler. If I get over 65 mph, it wants to start swaying. I am wondering if one of the two anti-sway kits you sell would fit the tow bar and hitch set up. Or are these kits really only for trailers? Please advise.

The sway control kits we offer like the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, part # 83660, are intended to be used with trailers and are not designed to be used with tow bars for flat-towing.
You will want to inspect your system to make sure everything is secured and correctly installed. I have attached a helpful article that gives an overview when flat-towing you can check out.
You might want to make sure your Wrangler is aligned properly and not causing the problems. You may also want to check your owner's manual for your tow bar and make sure you do not exceed the recommended speed limit while flat-towing. Most of the tow bars we offer state that the posted highway speed should not be exceeded.
