Roadmaster Accessories and Parts - RM-048-10

  • Tow Bar
  • Hitch Adapters
  • High-Low Adapter
  • Roadmaster
  • Fits 2 Inch Hitch
  • 10 Inch Rise/Drop

Make up for the height difference between your RV and towed vehicle with this hitch adapter. Provides either a 10-1/4" drop or a 10-1/4" rise. Solid shank provides strength and durability.

Features:

  • Allows for proper positioning of tow bar
    • Makes up for height difference between RV's hitch and towed vehicle's base plates
    • Also lets you mount a bike rack, cargo carrier, or other 2" hitch accessory
  • Provides either drop or rise for adequate ground clearance
  • Constructed of sturdy steel
    • Solid shank for superior strength and durability
  • Resists rust and corrosion with black powder coat finish
  • Hitch pin and clip or hitch lock sold separately
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: 2" x 2" trailer hitch receivers
  • Drop/rise: 10-1/4"
  • Receiver: 2" x 2"
  • Tongue weight: 400 lbs
  • Gross towing weight: 10,000 lbs
  • Length:
    • 11-1/4" From center of hitch pin hole to center of hitch pin hole
    • 4-1/2" From center of hitch pin hole to angled brace
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

  • What do I Need to flat Tow a 2011 to 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Behind a Motorhome
To flat tow a 2011 to 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee there are 5 major components needed: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. The base plates are what attach to the front of the Jeep and provide a safe and proper attachment point for the tow bar. For the 2011 to 2013 Grand Cherokee I recommend Roadmaster EZ5 base plates # RM-521440-5. These base plates feature removable arms that, when removed, makes the base plates almost invisible. I have linked a video...

  • Troubleshooting Flat Tires When Towing Mini Cooper With 2011 Holiday Rambler
First, before flat towing your 2011 Mini Cooper, be sure the tires are filled to the recommended psi and in good condition. More importantly, be certain your steering column is not locked; if your tires are unable to turn they would wear out quickly. If you think your safety cables may be an issue, and yours are shorter than 7', an option would be the Blue Ox Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88197. Another thing you could do is add an anti-rattle device such as the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer...

  • High-Low Adapter Needed for Flat Towing a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara
Since you can use different brand high-low adapters with any tow bar we actually have flat towing high-low adapters that will work for your situation. Unfortunately none of our dual adapters have the weight capacity to accomplish this. Attached is a link to our selection of high-low adapters that you can filter through. These range from a 2" rise/drop # RM-072-2 all the way to a 10-1/4" rise/drop # RM-048-10. If you're looking for an option with about a 7" drop like what the Malone # RM-048-10...

Hey George! I see you picked up the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-10 and the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar # e38FV. What drew you to the Roadmaster adapter for this? It isn't a bad choice, just wondering!

Hey Richard, thanks for the information! The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter item # RM-048-10 is our highest capacity high low adapter. It has a 10-1/4" drop/rise so it'll be perfect with your setup. What year CRV do you have?

  • Parts Needed To Flat Tow a 2024 Ford Escape
Since the 2024 Ford Escape is unchanged from the 2023 I see no reason you would not be able to use the Roadmaster Base Plate # RM77GR on the Hybrid trims. I recommend using the Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar # RM-676 and the Accessory Kit # RM-9284-2 to connect your Escape. You will also need a Charge Line # RM-156-25 to prevent your battery from being drained down while towing. I do recommend using either the Air Force One # DM26VR if your motor home has actuate brakes or Stay-IN-Play...

  • Will The 2-Piece Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # RM-521453-5 Fit a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?
For your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you are going to need the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521448-5. The crossbar integrated into this mount is required due to your chassis. On the newer JL Wrangles the Base Plate # RM-521453-5 you found is designed to fit the chassis has more strength and does not need the crossbar. I recommend pairing this with the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676. The Roadmaster Accessory Kit # RM-9284-2, Wiring # HM56200, and Charge Line # RM-156-25...

  • Solution to Allow a Cargo Carrier be Carried Higher than Stock Hitch Height
Because the high/low adapters like the part # RM-048-10 that you referenced are only designed for flat-towing purposes I cannot recommend you use one with your cargo carrier. The best recommendation I could make for you would be to use a Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210. This will give you about 4-1/2 inches of additional rise for your cargo carrier.

  • Could Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch be Used as High Low Adapter When Flat Towing
To lower your hitch height when flat towing your Honda Fit , I recommend using the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter - 2" Hitches - 10-1/4" Rise/Drop - 10K GTW, 400 lbs TW # RM-048-10, which will give you the closest rise/drop to what you need. The Patriot adjustable hitch opening part # PH54FR is not designed to be used for flat-towing.

  • How Far Off Level Can a Tow Bar Be When Flat Towing a Vehicle Behind an RV
For most tow bars the "safe zone" between the RV and the toad is 3 inches off level. The height is measured from the ground to the center of the receiver opening and to the center of the base plate. If you find that your set up is outside of the safe zone then there are high/low adapters you can use to compensate for the height difference. I have included a link to our help article explaining the adapters and safe zone as well as a link to our selection of high/low adapters.

  • Measuring for High Low Adapter to Flat Tow Vehicle Behind Motorhome
The longest adapter we carry is the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter - 2" Hitches - 10-1/4" Rise/Drop - 10K GTW, 400 lbs TW # RM-048-10. I don't know if you measured from the top of the receiver opening, but this will get you 10-1/4 inches of drop from the center of the receiver tube opening. Your tow bar can have a 3 inch drop but anything further than that isn't safe due to road bumps. Make sure you are measuring from the ground to the center of your hitch receiver and from the ground to...

  • High Low Adapter Needed for RV to Raise Hitch Height When Flat Towing
We do offer extender/riser combinations, also know as high-low adapters, for situations like yours. I have included a link to all of our high-low adapters for you. It will take just a couple of steps to determine which adapter is right for you. First we will start determining the rise that is needed. Since you want the setup as level as possible, you will want to measure the height from the center of your hitch pin hole on the RV to the ground and then the distance from the center of the...

  • How to Carry Bike Rack and Flat Tow Vehicle with 10 INch Riser Adapter
I do have a solution for you, however I do not recommend using the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver # RM-077-10 in conjunction with the High-Low Adapter # RM-048-10 that you already have. Using an adapter with another adapter like this will cause a really unstable connection and essentially reduce the weight capacity of your RV's hitch to an unknown number. A better solution for what you are looking to do is with the Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount # 325-GH-515 (or for just the shank part #...

  • Highest Amount of Rise for a High/Low Hitch Adapter for Use with Tow Bar
When using a tow bar to pull your modified 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you will need a high/low adapter to reduce the height difference between it and the RV. The greatest amount of rise available comes from the two items shown on the linked page, Roadmaster # RM-048-10 and Blue Ox # BX88132. There is no adapter with 15-inches of rise. Generally tow bar makers recommend no more than 3-inches above or below level for either end of the tow bar, so you may need to re-position your D-rings...

  • Carrying Bikes at the Back of an RV While Towing a Car on a Tow Dolly at the Same Time
There are a couple of hurdles to overcome in order to be able to carry bikes while using a tow dolly at the same time. First there is the drop issue. The most amount of drop from an adapter that we have is 10-1/4 inches, # RM-048-10, which will still work even if it doesn't quite get down to 12 inches. There aren't any dual receivers that you can use that will also have enough drop and work with a tow dolly. So what I propose is to use the above 10-1/4 drop adapter with a different kind...

  • Recommended 10" Hitch Extender W/ 10" of Rise
Michael, I believe we have what you're looking for. Check out the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-10; this adapter has 10 1/4" of rise/drop, a 10K capacity, and measures 11 1/4" from center of hitch pin hole to center of pin hole. Also, this adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only, do not use to tow a trailer.

  • Hitch High/Low Adapter for Better Ground Clearance When Using Cargo Carrier
Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-10 for 2-inch hitches will give your hitch-mount cargo carrier 10-1/4-inches of height gain for better ground clearance. It will also reduce your hitch capacity by 50-percent, as do all such adapters/extenders. This loss of hitch capacity results from the change in geometry, which moves the carrier's weight load further away from the hitch itself. You'll need to make sure the combined weight of the carrier and its loaded cargo does not exceed half of...

I believe I have a solution for you, but the part # RM-076 that you referenced only has a 100 lbs capacity so it wouldn't be rated high enough. Instead the part # RM-048-10 would give you up to 10 inches of rise and has a 400 lb tongue weight capacity. You should note that using adapters like this does cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent so you would need to verify that your hitch would have the capacity. To minimize movement you may also want the part # RM-061 that locks the...

  • How Does a High-Low Adapter Affect Trailer Hitch Weight Rating for Flat Towing
The high-low adapters that are made more for flat towing setups instead of towing a trailer, like the Roadmaster # RM-048-10 which has a 10-1/4" rise/drop, actually only decrease the tongue weight rating of your trailer hitch when you use it for an accessory like a bike rack. Since you will be using this adapter to flat tow your Ford Focus the weight rating of your trailer hitch won't be affected because your Focus completely supports itself. The reason why extenders reduce weight ratings...
