Of the hitches available for your X3, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 76226. It's just a few dollars more expensive than the compatible Curt Class III, part # C13316, but the Draw-Tite model has a 750 lb tongue weight capacity, versus the 400 lb capacity of the Curt model. The tongue weight capacity of a hitch is the maximum amount of weight that can be safely suspended from a hitch, which comes into play when you use the hitch as an attachment point for a hitch mounted accessory like a bike rack or a cargo carrier.

If you'll be towing with your hitch, you'll also need a ball mount, part # 2753 and a 1-7/8 inch # 19620 or a 2 inch # 63845 trailer ball. You'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # 119190KIT.
