Hey Chase congrats on your new trailer. To add a 7-Way connector to your 2002 Toyota 4Runner, you'll need the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation item # ETBC7L.
The 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit item # ETBC7L is designed specifically to work with wireless brake controllers like the Curt Echo item # C51180. This kit includes a 7- and 4-way trailer connector, all the wiring, connectors, and circuit breakers you'll need to complete the installation. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
You will then connect the black wire to the positive post on your 4Runner's battery, the white wire to a suitable ground, and the yellow wire to your tail lights reverse circuit. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes, lighting functions, and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's battery.
I attached a wiring diagram below so you can see how to get the item # ETBC7L installed. You won't have to worry about the blue brake controller wire because this kit does not include it and you won't need one with the Curt Echo item # C51180.
When you said adapt to a 7-Way, I took that as you already having a 4-way connector. If you do not you will have to add one before installing the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit item # ETBC7L. There's two options I have listed below that fit your 2002 Toyota 4Runner:
With Tow Package - Curt item # C55245
Without Tow Package - Curt item # C55341
The Curt Echo item # C51180 is the Curt part number 51180. This is the only model that plugs into a 7-way. I linked the owner's manual below along with a review/setup video we made. They'll show you how to get it up and running once you install your new 7-way item # ETBC7L.
What kind of camping do you plan on doing with your new trailer? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

The 7-way plug adapter worked well and allowed me to adapt the factory 4-way plug on my outback Wilderness and I did use the curt echo wireless brake adapter with this with zero issues. I sold my outback eight months after installing and prior to selling I de-installed and what I found was a big issue for this kit. I had very little salt exposure to my vehicle last winter but all of the hardware was completely corroded. I had to drill out and dremel off the screws to get the adapter off. Great adapter but do yourself a favor and get more weatherproof hardware and ditch the hardware that came with the kit. The other issue is just plan on buying an extra spool of the black wire to run to your battery as you will likely need it as the kit does not come with enough for most longer vehicles. Other than those two issues the adapter kit was really nice and as mentioned worked well with the curt echo.
