Will Hellwig Big Wig Help Reduce Vehicle Sway When Towing With 2026 Ford F-250

Updated 10/02/2026 | Published 10/01/2026

Question:

Will adding a Hellwig rear sway bar to my 2026 F250 4x4 make a big difference when pulling a 6000 travel trailer? I get sucked in at times from tractor trailers pass me.

Hey Richard, welcome back! Yes, the Hellwig Big Wig Rear Sway Bar # HE94FR will make a noticeable difference on your 2026 F-250 when towing. It will help keep the truck planted and reduce the movement you feel when a tractor trailer passes you.

Are you using a weight distribution hitch? If the travel trailer itself is actually swaying back and forth, I would consider adding a WDH with sway control since the Hellwig won't correct trailer sway on its own.

What kind of travel trailer do you have?

Yes, I have the Blue ox sway pro. The camper seems good, I check tung weight so I know I’m about 12%. I get sucked in when large trucks pass me, I I don’t want to spend more money on the truck if they don’t work. I don’t understand why a new F250 doesn’t come with a sway bar. My truck drives great, again big trucks pull me in. Not fun thanks

@RichardB since your camper is staying stable and you already have the Blue Ox SwayPro with your tongue weight around 12%, the Hellwig # HE94FR is a good next step. It won't eliminate the pressure you feel from a large truck passing, but it will reduce how much your F-250 leans and gets pushed around when that happens which is what you're really looking for. Ford does equip some F-250 configurations with a rear sway bar, but not all of them. The Hellwig is also considerably larger and stiffer than the factory bar where equipped so it makes a big difference either way.

FYI, I have a Coachman Freedom Express 192RBS, I use a sway distribution pro with about 12% on hitch. Trailer doesn’t seem to have any sway.thanks

I tow a 28 foot coachmen travel trailer. I upgraded my 2013 f250 gas to a 2024 F350 diesel with future plans on upgrading to 5th Wheel. I added the Hellwig rear sway bar and air bags to my 2013 and it towed great. The 2024 did not come with a rear sway bar and the back of the rv would never track straight. Constantle felt it in the steering. I purchased a better WDH, air bags and a Hellwig rear sway bar and the towing improved but never eliminated the rear shifting. Rv weights were checked several times. Upgraded to 37 foot 5th wheel, no mor problems. Bottem line, the rear sway bar helped but not a great amount. A truck camper would probably notice a big improvement.

@EricG thanks for sharing your experience. How much improvement you get from the rear sway bar can definitely vary depending on the truck and trailer setup. We've heard from quite a few people who noticed a significant improvement, while some have reported results similar to yours. It sounds like the fifth wheel ultimately solved the handling issue you were fighting with that travel trailer.
