Best Rear Suspension Enhancement Option For 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali With MagneRide Suspension

Question:
Good afternoon, I have a 2015 GMC sierra 1500 Denali with the mag ride d. It’s the crew cab with the six foot box. I’m wanting to purchase air bags for it. It has a small lift on it but I’m not sure of the size. I was looking at the Firestone and the Air Lift bags. Can you recommend which would be the best choice? And how to measure for the correct spacers? Thank you in advance. Jeromy

Hey Jeromy, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, there are not any air bag kits available for your 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with the factory MagneRide suspension. The MagneRide setup uses different suspension components and mounting locations than the standard Sierra suspension, so the normal air bag kits are not compatible. The lift adds another complication as well.
The good news is you still have a great option with the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS2611. This works with your existing leaf springs rather than mounting between the axle and frame, so it is a much better fit with the MagneRide system. It also means you do not have to figure out air bag spacers for the lift.
I really like the RAS for your truck because it adds support progressively as the rear suspension is loaded, helping reduce squat, body roll, sway, and axle wrap while still maintaining a comfortable unloaded ride. There are also no air lines, compressors, or pressure adjustments to mess with. Once it is installed and properly tensioned, it is basically a set-it-and-forget-it suspension upgrade, which makes it my first choice for your Denali.

I ran into the same problem with my 2017 Denali Crew cab. So I have been running the ride active suspension for about 2 years. When I adjust them for trailering I strap a 28ft challenger trailer with a 4000 lb car on it regularly. I really forget the trailer is back there as far as how well it tows. No just for extra measure I also added a set of Tembron’s on it is well. But honestly with the ride active suspension it didn’t need them. However I am at stock ride height. The only thing that I would add is to be sure and readjust them when you are not towing a load or it will bounce around a lot. You will remember right away that you forgot to re adjust them. On an install note I found it to be pretty straightforward however I did end up replacing the Ubolts along with the additional leaf spring setup.

So the Mag ride is completely gone (I have aftermarket shocks I believe they are Rancho) no ride height mechanism. So let’s pretend the pickup is just a stock GMC Sierra (side by side mine is identical to my buddies 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500). I see there are blocks to buy if you have a lift. Mine has a 2.5 inch lift so do I buy 2.5 blocks? Sorry I should have just left out the Denali part.
