Heavy trailers or bed loads can make the rear sag and the front lift, throwing off steering and braking. Firestone Ride-Rite air springs add up to 5,000 lbs of rear axle load-leveling capacity to keep your truck steady under weight. By spreading the load evenly across the suspension, they help maintain steering control, braking stability, correct headlight aim, and even tire wear when hauling or towing. The double-convoluted rubber construction cushions road shock so bumps don’t beat up your suspension or cargo.
Loads aren’t always the same, and that’s where the adjustable design shines. Each bag can be aired up or down between 5 and 100 psi to match what you’re carrying. Run just the minimum pressure for a soft unloaded ride, then add air when you hook up a trailer or load down the bed. Individual inflation valves let you fine-tune side-to-side balance for uneven loads so your truck stays level and handles predictably every time you hit the road.
These Ride-Rite springs are made to take real work. Each air spring uses four layers of reinforced rubber with a braided wire girdle that forms a double-convoluted shape for extra strength and burst protection. Corrosion-resistant metal end plates and a rolled crimp seal keep everything anchored tight and leak-free for consistent performance over years of use.
Installing rear axle air support doesn’t need to be complicated. The kit includes custom-fit brackets, hardware, air line tubing, and separate valves for manual inflation. The brackets mount between the frame and axle with minimal drilling on most setups, giving you clean alignment from the start. Add an optional compressor or gauge later if you want in-cab control—everything you need to get started leveling your load is in the box.

So far, I would give this product a 5 star rating. I must say, the installation directions from Firestone are a bit lacking. However, the installation video from etrailer made the installation a snap. I completed the installation in about 3 hours. I'm confident these Ride Rite bags will improve my hauling and towing performance when I go on long fishing trips fully loaded with gear and pulling my 19 foot boat. Also, etrailer was as good as their word when I asked them to honor their price pledge.
Opened the box and in awe, I called my service guy, but he couldn't get to it for a week, so I started in. Rolled my truck up on some blocks. Removing the stock rubber bumper was easy. Then the installation. Bolting the upper housing onto the frame was the first job and was easy, except I forgot to include the spacer. So two steps later I had to unbolt it , insert the spacer and re tighten it. The rest of it went well and is now ready for the air line. Quit for the day and this morning will install the other side, which should go much easier now that I have learned from the first side.
So it looks hopeful that even I can accomplish this. As a 75 year old retired surgeon that is saying a lot!

Worked great. But sold vehicle 6 months later
Installed on a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. Issue was excessive "loping" as when transitioning onto or off of a paved surface onto a concrete surface like bridges, overpasses, which tends to create a bump or dip. My first pressure setting was 20 lbs, not quite enough; I changed to 50 lbs which caused the impact to be a bit severe; back down to 30 lbs.....bingo. Great product, made a huge difference pulling our 27ft travel trailer.
Worst part of the installation was the wheels on my creeper getting stuck in the cracks of the concrete driveway. Otherwise not a big deal at all.

Still goin. Pickup rides great even if I forget to lower the pressure after parking the trailer between trips.
So far, so good. These things will hold some serious weight! I haven't had to exceed 6 lbs. yet, even towing cars on a flatbed trailer. The weight distribution setup I have has alot to do with that though. One gripe I have is that is should have came with a T joining both sides, going into a single Schrader valve. I don't like having to try and balance 2 separate sides. Just checking the pressure at lower pressures will release quite a bit of air - not alot of volume in there. If you load your vehicle correctly there should never be a need to have differing pressures on each side. At the very least, the option to choose should be included. Other than that, and a nagging slow leak I have on one side (at one of the quick-connect fittings), they've been great.

I still havent fixed the slow leak yet. Ive developed a rattle from the top half of the bag mount against the frame. Need to take that down and see what the issue is - nut might have loosened up. Weve got some pretty bad roads up here in the Northeast, so its no surprise. Other than that, theyre still working great. My idea on the T is a bad one, because that will introduce some severe body roll, as air pressure is forced from one side to the other depending on which way you turn. Will definitely decrease stability, so I wont be making that modification. Wish there was a way to hook this up to my existing Viair compressor. Suppose theres a way, just not an easy one.
Finally got a break in the rain yesterday so I installed the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags on my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD. Took about 4.5 hrs to install. My only problem was finding the correct way to remove the jounce bumpers from my truck. Directions state to simply unbolt them, but it took me awhile to figure out that the correct socket was a 10mm since you can't see or feel the bolt. The perfect setup to remove them is a deep well 10mm socket with a universal joint to get the right depth. After that the directions were right on and everthing went together nicely. I used a tubing cutter for the air lines and had no leaks. This is my second truck with air bags and I find them very useful in keeping the truck level and reducing sway while towing a 5th wheel trailer.

Good product so far. Only gripe is that the driver side mount does chaff against a brake hard line. Added Teflon spiral wrap and rubber tape to mitigate damage.

The bags have performed great after a year. Im dont tow haul daily, but when I do they have been a game changer. I do have to check the resting pressure occasionally as they will leak down over time, but nothing out of the norm. Would recommend the on-board compressor of towing hauling regularly.
Really great product and does exactly what it is supposed to do! I really dread doing projects like this sometimes because of the so-so directions, but the directions for this kit were the best I have seen. You can tell somebody actually took the time to do it right! My 740 lb cruiser in the back of my truck used to push the bed down a couple of inches. Not anymore!
Quickly arrived and pretty easy to install. I filled to approx 20psi just as a daily driver but already can tell a big difference in the overall handling of the truck. The rear end feels stabilizes quickly when hitting bumps and the body rill is greatly reduced.I have yet to try them with a heavy load but I have no doubt they will perform great. 2008 GMC Sierra 1500.

Still a great product a year later. I have pulled heavier trailers across the country,used it for my 30ft travel trailer. Alls i need to do is adjust the pressure to my desired settings and the truck rides smoothly down the highway nice and level. Highly recommended product. Product is holding up well.
Should have gotten them sooner, improved ride, feel and control. Absolutely a necessary upgrade if you are planning on hauling, trailering a boat or RV, or a slide in camper.

I bought a set of these for my 2015 GMc Sierra to tow my Grand Design 17MKE camper, they made a really big difference in the haul, like them and would suggest them to anyone. Have since sold the camper, and bought waverunners still have the bags on.
Great setup! Bought the helper springs to help truck sag when towing and having camping gear in the bed of the truck. The before and after shows the trailer connected with 600 pounds of tongue and 300 pound tent in the bed of the truck
We tow a flagstaff super light with a 2018 Sierra. Tongue weight in the neighborhood of 1500 lbs loaded. . Decided to level the suspension on the truck and needed to replace a set of Timbrens with air bags. Ride quality is a world of difference. The bags provide such an improvement on ride quality.
Install was fairly straight forward - most time consuming was routing the airlines. We use the bumper fill option for air with a small 35 dollar electric compressor run from the cigarette lighter socket. Use a Joes Racing model 32307 for measuring pressure. Inflated to 35PSI when towing.
Would highly recommend these bags - ride quality improvement 2nd to none.
This is the second set of airbags I have purchased from etrailer and my third truck using them, I have yet to utilize this new set as for I just installed them on this past Thursday and will get to evaluate them tomorrow pulling my camper. The last set on my last two trucks, I was extremely happy with their performance. as well as extremely happy with the service I get anytime I deal with etrailer. Cathy T is always very helpful.
This was way easier to install that I was imagining. Watch the installation video and you'll have no problems. I didn't drop the spare or even jack up the truck at all. All of the parts and hardware are of great quality. Nothing cheap or flimsy.
I ended up mounting the air valves inside the bed by fishing the hose up the bed stake and using the factory holes in the bedside.
It took me about two hours to install on my 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain Extended Cab.

These air bag helpers are a must for anyone towing heavy trailers or heavy loads in the truck. I used them for 6 months and loved them. Even made my empty ride smoother with only 5 lbs of air. I removed them from my truck that I traded for a 2024 ford. Unfortunately they won’t fit the new truck so I definitely will be buying a set for the new truck.
I don't typically do reviews but I was so excited about these I just had to share. installation was fine, it took me about 2 hours. Watch the installation videos, it helps. I thought I needed a 3/4 ton truck just to put some heavy loads in my bed a few times a year, but not anymore! See the picture I loaded. that is my Silverado 1500 with approximately 1,500lbs in the back (there are a bunch of concrete curbs in the back). Can you tell, I can't. That's with only 30lbs of air in the springs. I have used air shocks in the past but forget that, no comparison. I will say I did not get the series to fill itself which I will probably upgrade to soon, but for now, these are exceeding my expectations.
I wanted to follow up and let you know the Firestone Air bags fit perfectly with the B&W Turnover ball hitch. Attached are pictures of the Airbags installed on the 2018 GM Sierra 1500 Z71. I've also included the pictures of the compressor and tank install. The compressor is installed under the hood in the spare battery tray and the tank is mounted on the outside of the frame under the passenger side door. Let me know if you need any additional details on the installation.
After emailing a fitment question to etrailer and having Erik B answer it in detail and correctly, I ordered this kit to install on my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. It fit perfectly. From start to finish it took about 2 hours and I wasn't in a hurry. The kit came with everything I needed except for a few extra zip ties for the air line, but I had those anyway. The instructions that came with the kit are sufficient and easy to understand, but watching the video that Erik at etrailer linked to my question first made it much easier to understand how the installation should go.
I ordered the air bag kit because even with the weight distribution hitch on my truck, it still sags the rear about 4 inches before the air bags were installed. I haven't got to use the trailer yet, but I can't imagine having to run more than 40psi in the bags for my 10,000lb trailer with 1100lb tongue weight.
These bags serve my purpose. It’s good to be able to level the truck up when I have a heavy load in the bed. Not too difficult to install. It would be more convenient to have the air bags with a built in compressor.
I do a lot of camping. When using the weight distribution hitch, you have to let the air out of the bags, before hooking up the trailer and hitch. Then put air in the bags. This is inconvenient, but the instructions for the hitch say to deflate the air bags.
I sometimes take a Foreman 500 four wheeler when I camp. I have to put it in the bed of the truck. It made the truck squat down a good bit. With the air bags, I can level it back up after hooking the camper and hitch up.
They do the job, but spend a little more and get the one with the built in air compressor.

The air bags have held up well. I recently purchased the air command compressor kit from etrailer. It has a remote control, plus a phone app that allows you to control the air in the bags. The air bags are great, but spend the extra money and get the air compressor kit. It makes it so much easier.
Installation was not hard at all, I definitely recommend having an impact wrench handy though. The airbags definitely improved how my toy hauler towed!! They took out all sag and reduced the roughness on torn up highways. The pic shows my truck back to factory ride height with the bags.
