Question:

Looking to see if Part Number: SPS5060-1101 is compatible on the 2026 Subaru Outback Limited. Wanting roof capacity with the added height of a basket on cross bars. Also, confirming this kit contains Part Number: SP1101. Do you give veteran/Retiree discounts? Thank you for your time.

Hi Rob,

I'm sorry, but at this time we don't have a veteran or retiree discount.

Previous years of the Subaru Outback had the integrated, swing out crossbars that stored inside the side rails that were NOT compatible with the Surco Clamp on Adapters part # SP1101. The 2026 model of the Subaru Outback switched to standard fixed, raised roof rails; as long as you have the new raised roof rails and not the integrated swinging ones the Surco adapters will work because they're a universal fit for that style of roof rail.

However, the Surco Safari Rack 5.0 Rooftop Cargo Basket - 60" Long x 50" Wide Part # SPS5060 is larger than what I'd suggest for the Outback's roof. It'll sit wider than the roof's channels and will create a lot of noise and due to its size when driving. I suggest going with a slightly smaller basket that will give you a quieter, better fit for the vehicle, like the Surco Safari Rack 5.0 Cargo Basket - 60" Long x 45" Wide part # SPS4560. We do kit together the clamps and the baskets, which is why you the part numbers combined together for the kit's part number. The 60"x45" Safari basket with the adapter clamps is part # SPS4560-1101.

Hello Claire, I will eventually carry a full-sized spare, propane and camp stoves. Other dirty camping gear, though I am a little concerned of the large gaps in the Surco rack. I am also considering a Thule set-up with Wing Bar Evo and the Canyon XT.

@RobM I see what you mean, the gaps in the Surco are much larger. Since there are smaller things, you may want to carry you'd probably need a roof cargo bag to go inside the Surco basket to make sure everything stays together. The Thule Canyon XT definitely has smaller holes but depending on the size of what you're carrying you may still want a bag or cargo net for it.
