Will a Truck Charge Line Drain a Trailer's Lithium Battery?

Updated 08/07/2026 | Published 08/04/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2026 Winnebago 2108TB with one 12V 100AH LiFeP04 Lithium Battery. According to someone on the internet, when the truck is connected to the trailer, the truck battery and the Lithium battery can interact/cross charge. Is this true? if so what is the fix? Please Advise Thanks

That's a great question Stanley, there is some truth to what you've read.

When your truck is connected to the trailer through the 7 way connector, the truck can supply charging current to your trailer's lithium battery while you're driving. Depending on the truck and charging circuit, the trailer battery can also draw from the truck battery if the engine isn't running and the two remain connected.

A great solution is the Redarc DC to DC Trailer Battery Charger # RED96FR. It's designed specifically for charging a trailer battery through the 7 way connector, provides the correct charging profile for your 100Ah LiFePO4 battery and isolates the truck and trailer batteries to help prevent unwanted battery drain.

Can I ask what you're towing your Winnebago with?
