Hello Scott,

Thanks for finding a reason to write into us.

The Big Truck Big RV Trailer Jack Foot Scale with Tongue Weight Gauge # BTBRV014 is hydraulically operated. It is not pneumatic or spring driven. As the trailer's tongue weight is applied through the jack, hydraulic pressure moves the gauge to display the tongue weight. This design provides consistent readings without the need for batteries or electronics.

The hydraulic design is a great choice if you're looking for a simple and reliable way to check your tongue weight while you're hooking up. Just lower the jack onto a firm, level surface and read the gauge. This makes it easy to verify your tongue weight, adjust your cargo if needed, and head out knowing your trailer is loaded properly.

What kind of trailer are you planning to use the scale with?

Thanks for the information. Based on my camper information below, would the BTBRV014 work for me or is my tongue weight too light for this to be accurate? I am currently towing an Alliance Delta Solo RB152. Dry/Empty Weight: 3,990 lbs (mine is listed as 4200 lbs) Hitch Weight: 545 lbs (min is typically closer to 600 lbs) some specs list up to 580 lbs depending on loading) Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): 4,850 lbs On 4/28/26, I bought a: BTBRV004 - Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale for Trailers - 1,000 lbs - Fixed Is this unit hydraulic, pneumatic or spring driven? I like that my trailer puts it near the middle of the measuring range. Thanks again for your help and I look forward to your reply.

@Scott You're very welcome! Based on the tongue weight of your Alliance Delta Solo RB152, the Big Truck Big RV Trailer Jack Foot Scale with Tongue Weight Gauge # BTBRV014 is a great fit. With a loaded tongue weight around 600 pounds, your trailer falls near the middle of the gauge's measuring range, making it easy to read and well suited for your application. The # BTBRV014 is hydraulically operated, just like the # BTBRV004 you purchased. As the trailer's tongue weight is applied through the jack, hydraulic pressure moves the gauge to display the tongue weight. It is not pneumatic or spring driven, and it does not require batteries or electronics. For the most accurate reading, place the scale on a firm, level surface and measure the trailer in its loaded camping configuration. That gives you the true tongue weight you'll be towing with. Your trailer is an excellent match for the # BTBRV014.
