Troubleshooting 3,500LB Trailer Leaf Springs Bottoming Out & Flattening On 3,750LB GVWR Boat Trailer

Question:

My boat weighs 1460 lbs my trailer gave is 3750lbs I put new 3500 leaf springs but bottoms out still , also the leafs look flat under load . Should I have gotten higher rated springs ?

If your trailer has a GVWR of 3,750lbs and your boat only weighs 1,460lbs you should be fine with the 3,500LB Leaf Springs # e54SR. I would recommend taking your boat and trailer to a nearby scale to have the trailer weighed to ensure you are under the 3,500lb capacity rating for the springs. This will also help to ensure you are not overloading the trailer which could create a more catastrophic problem. While you could go to heavier springs like the 4,000LB # e93SR this would most likely lead to more bouncing on the trailer which could cause damage to the boat since there would be more shock transferred to the boat rather than absorbed by the springs.

We do have the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # TSS-106-40 which can provide some additional support to the leaf springs as they compress. It will also help to reduce shock transferred to the trailer. These particular springs are designed for underslung axles with 7-7/16" to 8-5/8" between the top of spring plate and bottom of trailer frame.
