Hey thanks for reaching out. The Big Truck Big RV Trailer Jack Foot Scale # BTBRV014 is a mechanical hydraulic scale, not a load cell or electronic device. It uses a sealed hydraulic piston to apply pressure to an analog gauge, so there are no electronics, batteries, or load cells inside the unit.

That hydraulic design makes it very durable and simple to use, but I still don't recommend leaving it under the trailer during long-term storage. It's intended to take a tongue weight measurement and then be removed. Storing the trailer on the scale leaves the hydraulic mechanism under constant pressure, which can affect its long-term accuracy.

What kind of trailer do you usually tow?

Thanks for the reply. I pull a 24’ Ez-Hauler enclosed car trailer. I have three different cars so each car has to be positioned differently to make the trailer tongue weight correct. I have only worked with one car so far and that involved numerous trips across the scales. Each trip across the scales is an expense. I believe this tongue jack scale would save me a lot of of money in the long run. I also occasionally pick up parts at swap meets and this would tell me the best place to load these items.

@NL Oh yea I think it's definitely worth investing in a tongue weight scale. You'll be able to get an accurate weight reading on the spot. No more trips to the scales.
