Is Blue Brake Output Wire Required On Vehicle Side For Curt Echo Brake Controller

If I am using a Curt Echo 51180 Bluetooth brake controller do I still need to run a blue wire to the 7 pin plug? What would the other end connect to? Or does the black 12v power wire be used by the controller to send power to the trailer brakes?

Hey Mark! You do not need the blue brake output wire when using the Curt Echo # C51180. The black 12V wire will power the controller and it will send the brake signal back through the trailer. Instead of installing the # ETBC7, you can use the # ETBC7L. This comes with everything you need to add a 7-way and cuts out the extra wire to save you some money.

Mark, You are asking the same questions I had about the Curt Echo Mobile when setting up a 7-pin socket on my 2026 Rav4 PHEV. Here is what I have learned. You do not need to connect anything to the BLUE brake wire on your new 7-pin socket if you plan to use a CURT ECHO Mobile. You DO need to connect your 12V battery source to the BLACK 12V wire on your socket. The ECHO will take the 12V battery source and "magically" output the correct output to your eBrake blue wire system. Here is something else I recently learned. The ECHO will also output power on its BLACK 12V output (I am not sure if it is a fixed small amount or if it is constantly adjusted depending on eBrake needs) to help recharge your trailer battery. Some of this is explained in the ECHO Mobile instructions sheet. If you have not seen one yet, I highly recommend getting a copy.
