How to Add a 7-way to a 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid?

Question:

Hi I have a 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max Platinum and am looking for how to take the vehicles existing 4 pin wiring and convert to a 7 way? My trailer has brakes. Thanks in advance!

Hi Paul,

If you're wanting to add a 7-way to your 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, you'll need to use the Universal Installation Kit for Brake Controllers part # ETBC7. This kit will plug your vehicle's 4-way flat into the 7-way connector and includes the wiring to run the power and brake signal from the front of the vehicle back to the 7-way. That way you'll have a usable 4-way flat and 7-way on the back of the vehicle to plug into.

If you don't have a brake controller, I suggest using the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part # RED52VR. It works with trailers with up to two axles and is compatible with electric and electric over hydraulic brakes. It will easily splice into the vehicle's wiring behind the dash, and the knob will install into the panel on your dash for a factory look. The Universal Mounting Panel for Redarc Tow-Pro part # 331-TPSI-001 will fit into the dash for the knob to install into and includes a drilling template and self-adhesive tape to install it.
