Is There A Way To Reduce Startup Surge Power When Using Advent Air AC Unit On Winnebago Minnie RV?

We have a 2020 Winnebago Minnie Winnie 22M and camp off-grid quite a bit with a portable generator. I’m replacing the factory rooftop AC and want to know if there’s anything I should add to help the Advent Air start easier on generator power.

Hi Jeff, yes there is! For your 2020 Winnebago Minnie Winnie 22M, I’d first match the kit to the way your current AC is set up. If your Minnie Winnie has ceiling ducts and a wall thermostat, I’d look at the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System - 13,500 Btu - Ducted - Black # ADV59QR, or the 15,500 Btu ducted kit # ADV69QR if you want the higher-capacity option. If you have no ceiling vents you'll instead want 13,500 # ADV27QR or 15,500 # ADV49QR.
For generator or off-grid camping, the Advent Air start capacitor # ACMSCKIT is the add-on I’d include. It can be used with these Advent Air systems and is especially worth considering when you’re running the AC from a generator, where that initial startup load matters more than it does on steady shore power. The start capacitor installs at the rooftop unit by bolting to the fan motor support with the included hardware, then the wires route to the run capacitor.
