Hey Mary, thanks for reaching out. We do have a hitch for your 2005 Chevy 2500 HD that is up to the task. Here is what I recommend:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V Commercial Duty - 2-1/2" # C15703
This is the strongest hitch available for your truck. It has a 18,000 lb towing capacity and 2,700 lb tongue weight rating. It'll fit both the 6-1/2' bed and 8' bed models of the 2005 Chevy 2500.
A few things to keep in mind. Installation will require drilling into the frame, and if your truck has a factory hitch, that will have to be removed. Also keep in mind this hitch has a 2-1/2" receiver, so you'll need to make sure your pick up a ball mount that fits a 2-1/2" hitch like part # BWTS20040B. Or if you already have a good ball mount for a 2" hitch you can grab a reducer sleeve like part # e26YR.
Does your truck have a factory hitch? What is the bed length?

I installed this hitch on a 2003 Chevy 2500HD I replaced the factory hitch as it was rusting, this installed directly into the factory holes on the frame I did not have to drill anything, I love the hitch

I absolutely LOVE my Curt 18k receiver! I use the biggest quick links in the chain holes to make it a lil easier to hook up. As for durability......second to none in my opinion! However might I suggest you spend the money on a "Gen-Y" hitch to reduce the felt bounce of your trailers.

This trailer hitch was easy to stall and works great. It’s not as hidden as lesser hitches but will haul more than you need. Highly recommend product.

Bought one for a 10,000 GVW dump bed bumper hitch. Works great with no problems

The hitch is OK. But you might not be able to hook your safety chains! And I alerted Etrailer of my concern. Not sure if I would buy another?
