Updated 06/08/2026 | Published 05/31/2026

Question:

Fitment: 2026 Nissan Frontier SV w/ factory trailer hitch and wiring. I am looking for a specific Redarc hitch controller that fits my 2026 Nissan Frontier. The kit should include all the wiring and the plastic panel adapter for the controller knob.

Hi Markus,

It sounds like you've already done quite a bit of homework on this. For your 2026 Nissan Frontier SV with the factory trailer hitch and factory trailer wiring, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED53CR. Since your truck came equipped with the factory tow package and trailer wiring, you won't need any additional wiring harnesses to complete the installation.

I also checked with Redarc regarding a vehicle-specific dash insert for the Frontier. At this time, they do not offer a Frontier-specific mounting panel, but they do recommend the Universal Mounting Panel # 331-TPSI-001. This gives the control knob a clean, finished appearance and helps achieve that factory-style look many Frontier owners are after. I added a photo from a customer that used the universal panel for install.

The Tow-Pro Liberty is one of my favorite brake controllers because it focuses on the features most drivers actually use. It provides true proportional braking, meaning the trailer brakes apply in proportion to how hard you're braking the truck, resulting in smooth and predictable stops. The main control unit mounts out of sight behind the dash, leaving only the small control knob visible, which keeps the interior looking clean and uncluttered. It also works with both electric and electric-over-hydraulic trailer brakes, making it a great fit for everything from utility trailers and cargo trailers to campers and boat trailers.

I've also heard great feedback from Frontier owners running this controller. One customer recently installed it on a 2025 Frontier and completed the install in less than an hour. Since his truck was a 4x2, he was able to use the factory 4WD switch blank for the control knob and didn't need any additional switch mounts. He had previously used the same controller on another Frontier while towing a 20-foot camper and reported excellent braking performance. I added his review and photo as well.

What will you be towing most with your Frontier, and do you already have a spot in mind where you'd like to mount the control knob?

I have the Red Arc brake controller, and I am very pleased with its performance. It's simple to install, and I like the control knob on the dashboard. It's a clean install and completely out of the way. Once you have it set for your trailer, you're done.

eTrailer suggested this unit for my 2023 Frontier SV 4X4 with the trailer tow package. It is a plug and play unit and works absolutely great. I purchased a blank switch cap from Nissan and we installed it on the left side of the steering wheel where there are other switches - some blank. Took me and my step-son about an hour to install.
