Updated 05/07/2026 | Published 05/03/2026

Question:

is it necessary to connect the converter to the battery. im only running a small trailer. I didnt need a battery connection with my wrangler. Is it because Broncos run LED tail lights? thanks in advance

Hey Bill, you do for sure have to connect the power wire of the Curt 4-way kit part # C42WR to the vehicle battery. I know that is a bit of a hassle but this step is what protects the taillight circuits of your Bronco. All of the power that the trailer wiring draws comes straight from the battery. Newer vehicles can't have as much of a draw put on the taillight circuits which is why basically all new vehicles require this step. Do you have a trailer hitch installed already?

I Used the 12 v off the power port in the passenger rear. It is ignition switched so no draw when the bronco is off

@StephenO while that is an easier way to get the power for the converter it's not the recommended way. Having it connected to the battery directly means that in the event of a trailer wiring short you wouldn't run any risk of it damaging the vehicle wiring.
