Can RV 15 Amp Converter be Upgraded to 35 Amp
Updated 05/04/2026 | Published 04/26/2026 >
Question:
I have a 1995 Northstar popup camper. I bought it used with no paperwork. I want to replace the integrated converter from a Carson model CP-10FK-2. It only has a 15amp system and I want to upgrade to a 30amp. Currently the coffee pot and the hot water heater are more than the 15amps can handle, and trips the breaker. I won’t be installing an AC unit. Im looking for advice on which Progressive Industries integrated unit would be my best option. I have plenty of room to increase the cutout size, and/or can accommodate a smaller unit size if need be.

Hey William, you can upgrade to a 35 amp panel/converter like with the WFCO part # WF96FR (we don't have any 30 amp options) but you should note that when doing this you have to also upgrade all of the wiring that runs to and from the converter as it would need to be able to withstand over twice as much current as what you have now.

Thank you for the response. Just confirming the wiring to/from the battery and to/from the shore power to the converter would need to be upgraded. I shouldn’t need to change the 120v or the 12v wiring running to my plugs, lights, appliances, etc, correct?
